Makes it a lot easier to hit different rankings i suppose but i dont think it will stop people spamming...People love spamming...

maybe give ex mods a retirement package consisting of


a custom title

that way anyone wanting one would have to be on their best behavior to even get a chance at being a mod, and then last over a year before they got a custom title.. would encourage good behavior :D
 
....and give us vets that been on the site for almost 2 years custom titles also! :frown:

Anyways it's elitism...if the ex-mods get a custom title so should the vets.
 
oooh cool, the PM box has an increase/decrease buttons, very handy addition :D:D

yeah but 90% of the vets made .01% of the contributions to the site.. the mods have to work all the time keeping it clean. You can't ever compare a 1 post vet to a moderator.

Well, that's still elitism, Tr0n, just on a lower scale. Here's an idea: create a very long list of custom titles submitted by users. When you've been here a certain amount of time, you have the option of staying a strider or selecting a custom title from the list. Obviously all you senior members here would get to go ahead and choose your custom title, and to be fair, the order ya'll would get to choose would be based on join dates (perhaps mods, content writers, and others who have made significant contributions to the site would get special priority).

edit:Since the titles are user-submitted, they wouldn't have to be HL2-related, so the titles would be truly customized.

Everyone would be up in arms about it anyways.Also yes the mods have done a great job and contributed to the site a whole lot, but the vets still deserve one also.

Anyways it's up to munro to decide not us.I don't think it's going to happen for a long time or at all for that matter.

But what have the vets done to deserve special treatment?

They signed up early

They have an inbuilt hatred for headcrabs and anyone new

They've had almost 2 years to provide tons of content for the site, and haven't.

Many have been warned for spamming, fighting, attacking other users

Compared to a regular moderator..

Gives up his or her time to keep the site clean

Puts up with inane questions and problems

Runs around after the users, fixing threads, polls, deleting, locking, moving, warning, banning.

Removes spam attacks and other attacks on the forums before most users get a chance to even know its there

Diffuses situations that would otherwise turn nasty

Looks after the site, comes up with idea's to keep it running

Puts up with abusive remarks from users who've been told off, is treated regularly like scum by those who are jealous they were made a mod.

Puts up with deliberate attacks from groups of users intent on trying to get a mod removed.

Hasn't the time for their own life because their running around after others because people can't read the rules.


yeah, so what has a vet done for us lately..

besides, rewarding someone simply because they signed up early on hardly helps improve general behavior.. since ranks and titles are sooo important to so many. Reward good behavior, not membership number.

Also true.

But I still think that my idea, perhaps with different basic criteria (ex-mod, significant contribution to site, perhaps good behavior and helpfulness?) would be neat.
 
Doesn't matter...it's about being fair.

I do like your idea steve...but if an EX-mod gets a custom title so should other people.

I got a million of 'em. Unfortunately, most of them involve two women and rubber sheets, making them hard to sell.
 
Also about my warning thing...I told shippi to give me it, because I wanted it to be fair.
 
I think they should be for someone who has tons of posts, and has never recieved a warning

Right, but not just anybody. Somebody who's been helpful to new members, the site in general, etc. Perhaps some sort of system could be implemented whereby when someone does something helpful for you, you could send in a "good word" report of sorts. Kind of like the "Report This Post" button, except in a good way. You get points for good reports, and bad reports, warnings, etc. will get you points taken away. Of course, all of this would not only require a lot of work on the site, but one or several new staff positions would probably have to be created simply to take all the PMs and add up the points, etc., as the mods already have their hands full. I really think it's a cool idea, but now that I think about it, it's really a lot of work for such a small thing.

I couldn't care about a custom title.. I had one for over a year and also was the only strider for a while, so it makes little difference to me.

But I am against people such as yourself who continue to polute the forums with spam being rewarded for it. Your the one dragging this out, so YOUR the one who wants a title. Otherwise you wouldn't have even replied to my original tongue in cheek post.. But well done for not having gone off topic for once.

Oh and you did manage to completely ignore THE ACTUAL POINT too.. nice one, shame nobody is falling for your attempts to make me look bad :)


Edit: but its funny as hell seeing you suddenly change your mind to "lets keep it the same" when you realised you've contributed nothing :p So you might aswell just drop it now "vet" :p

the point that I originally made was

Introduce custom titles to ex-mods (mods don't need them, they've got the staff title which is fine) so many people want custom titles eg: this thread and others about the ranks. So the _only_ way to get a custom title, would be to behave, get noticed, become a mod, then you'd get one when you left. Then you turned this into a "well I should have one too" argument while I was trying to explain the whole point of it would be to give people what they want ONLY if they behaved enough.

And I wish you'd knock it off with the insults, its getting boring now and I wont let you drag me down to your level. So feel free to argue with yourself. I'm not interested, I made my point way back before you started up about vets getting them just for signing up early on, defeating the entire reason of my post and turning it into an argument. So I'm done with this, I don't like where its going, as it wont achieve anything.

No you stated that ex-mods should get one as a retirment package to "encourage" good behavior when you know that it won't.Hell from the first statement alone sounds like "Hey I'm an ex-mod I deserve a custom title early so I will look special."

So I am sorry I took it the wrong way.

I only insult people who I feel attack me first.IF you think I insulted you I am sorry.I did not mean to do so...it's just my nature to lash out at anybody who I feel is kinda attacking me.

Again sorry.

The fact remains if one person gets a custom title even if it is good behavior everyone will be up in arms about it so you will have to be fair about it and give everyone else one.

Fenric, quit being so damn full of yourself. :p You get a custom title when you're a mod, but only if you stay one. And Tr0n, just because you spammed for 2 years doesn't mean you should get a custom title. ;) Besides, whats the point of custom titles?

I don't think anyone deserves custom titles, no vets, no ex-mods. Only the mods because they need it. I don't even like the titles we have now. :p
