Booked in to have it done in October by an awesome artist.

The circle pattern is my date/time of birth. The Chinese text around it is two separate idioms - the first one means "keep on fighting in spite of all setbacks" (lit. "100 hits, no scratch".)
The second one means "Stand out from one's fellows."
The one on the lower plate means "time does not wait."

Yeah, Chinese/Japanese text is often overused, but I've spent the past year learning Chinese, and I like those idioms, so I'm entitled.
Looking forward to getting it nailed on!

what happened to that design for a tattoo you had that looked like the plans to the death star? did you ever get that one done? also doesnt seem that complicated that any old tattoo artist would do

It's complicated if you want the shading to look anything like leather and metal, rather than just an amorphous grey mess.

As for the others, did you mean these?

because yeah, I had those done.

Pi Mu Rho, once again proving that tattoos are cool.

ya that's them. I seem to remember you posted the after shots. old age does funny things to your memory.

wha? you're doing the whole piece as in the photo/rendering? I thought you were just doing the symbol in the middle. it's not even that clear it's a piece of armor

Stern is blind in his old age also. It's clearly armour! Looks like a pauldron.

Normally I would be skeptical of chinese symbols but since you're learning Chinese at least you know the actual meaning. I swear some people are walking around with the recipe for chicken in black bean sauce tattooed on them.

Yep, it's a pauldron, and yes I'm having the whole thing done. Right shoulder and upper arm, and I might even extend it down to my elbow with a few more plates.

I like the Chinese idioms because they usually express a complex idea in just 4 characters. I was very thorough - no recipes here!

Holy shit, I thought the same as Stern, that you were just getting the symbol and text. I'm curious to see how it turns out, are there any examples of a tattoo depicting metal and leather like this turning out good? I imagine its very difficult to do.

Check out the guy's portfolio - I've already been in and discussed it, and he doesn't see any difficulty with it.

just curious as to why you want a piece of armor tattooed to your flesh. will it act as a real life pauldron? does the tattoo cover your entire shoulder?

I'm getting it because I like it. I come up with an idea, expand on it and then work on the design. Obviously it won't act as a pauldron, but you'd be amazed how many armour-requiring fights I don't get into these days.
Yep, it'll cover my shoulder and upper arm.

ok that makes more sense. I initially thought you were going to tattoo it as is on your back or sumthin

and maybe if you got out more you'd get into more fights requiring armor

Pretty impressive portfolio. Interested to see what this'll look like when done!

I think it would be better with just the symbols instead of the full armor plate (just cuz it won't look as good as a 2d illustration rather than 3d armor) but it still is pretty neat. I like your other tattoos. Remind me what the most recent one means? With the crop circles and whatnot?

I'm pretty sure I remember the other/earlier one being for your children... but I remember from past threads that the crop circle lookin' one has some significance too, about various people in your life or something.

The other one is a simple family tree. The large circle represents my parents, the next (smaller) one my oldest brother, with his daughter in orbit, then my older brother and his 3 kids, me and my 3 kids, then my younger brother with his daughter.

lol.

Looks awesome, Looking forward to seeing the finished product. It's always good to see people coming up with their own tattoos instead of browsing through a brochure.

I really like the family tree tatt. Awesomely thought out from a design perspective. Good idea.

I also made this, which is a mixture of the two (although it's not a tattoo)
