Something messed up is going on, I have Mozilla Firefox but latley I've been getting the od pop-up. Is there a new type of pop-up that can evade pop-up killers? Is there a patch I can get for this?

Well my spyware scan must be out of date,

Edit: no spyware according to the scan.

FF isn't able to detect all popups, it does a much better job than IE though:)

If you disable java script, it stops these pops. But, of course, half the internet requires javascript. So you're boned if you do and you're boned if you don't.

I get popup too. I guess people are trying to make pop-ups even FireFox can't prohibit.
Try visiting www.zophar.net for example.
You need to click a link on the page for it to appear.

Have you tried the new security update for Firefox? Not sure if it'll help with poopups, but it couldn't hurt.

edit: I just the typo "poopup". I decided to leave it.

Is it a FireFox/Browser pop-up or the Windows Messanger pop-up?

I had the Windows Messanger pop-up and to deactivate it you just go into Control Panal -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Deactivate Messanger.

I went there, clicked on lots of links (dropdown boxes and hyperlinks) and didn't get any popups...

Using FF 1.0.3 Java and Javascript enabled.

The only pop-ups I get is ones that are made in flash for that website.

But yes, I get the occasional old pop-up, nothing to worry about.

Plus, this thread is now moved. :)

It could be because it's actually a "pop-under"... it loads in the background and not on top of the current window. I know, I think I'll order my free PSP right now! lol

Imageshack have a random one, using javascript as someone already said. Firefox currently can't block them, though I'm guessing if you know the exact location you can use adblock to stop it.

Those are the only popups that can get through right now, even the flash popups aren't getting through with Firefox, and even if they do its easy to stop those cause of the adblock tab.

http://www.geocities.com/pierceive/adblock/

use those filters, will cut down on a lot straight away.

i think Firefox only blocks popups in the <body onLoad> section of the page (just a guess).
