New weapons?

We should have SNARKS!!!!!!!
I wouldn't mind a new SMG either.

1)I'm sick of this bullshit Gordon model argument. You know what? If it matters so damn much, they could just get rid of the ****ing model! You put a portal on the roof and on the wall, you look through the portal, you know what you see? ****ing nothing! You can't see yourself with portals happy?

2)A flamethrower. I could imagine finding one at White Forest and it would be a helluva lot of fun. Snow elements and what not.

3)Tau cannon. Just because. It was awesome then and it would be now

4)Snarks shall not return. Face it. Get on the train for friendly manhacks via Alyx. There's a new G gun tool I could enjoy

As for the sniper rifle... no. Pointless. Take the crossbow, use some skill, have some fun.

Not saying I want all of these, just what I see as most likely, and most fun. If I got one of these I'd be thrilled, if not, well I'd still be playing Ep. 3;)

Also darkseid wins, 100% agreement on everything he said

I agree with everything Darkside has said. He is right on everything. Feeling the love, Darkside?

The more he talks about bees and hand held tau cannons the more I agree. There has to be some new experimental weapons on that ship, or in that facility, c'mon! Atleast we should get mod on existing weapons, like maybe a rocket-launcher-esque laser guiding system on the bow or something (I know, not the greatest idea), it's kind of lame having the same weapons over and over again.. I never even use the pistol as it is.. Sounds like a damn cap-gun. I hate it. Replace it with Alyx's gun, that'd be bad-ass.

Or maybe we'll get snarks again, think about it, on the Borealis there is great power, maybe it'll do another portal like in HL1, and release a bunch of Xen creatures onto earth again, and there'll be snarks!

If they do include a flamethrower, they should do it like in Wolfenstein Enemy Territory (I think that's what it was) the Flamethrower in that kicked ass.

Darkside is right on everything. GG isn't that great anymore. Even the blue GG isn't fun (But it was good for the story, it's fun in small doses, which is what we get anyways)

No
I want that sniper too bad, there should be at least one mission where you operate the rifle, I don't mean have it dismounted by a vort and carry it around for the length of the game.

No. Manhacks are already a Gravity Gun toy. Snarks are neccesary for the series to continue.

IT MUST BE DONE!

There should be more weapons that work with stuff you find in the "environment".

EX:

Flamethrowers could use those exploding containers they introduced in EP2 (like propane tanks)

Maybe even a giant slingshot that you push rocks into with the gravity gun, then pull a leaver and it throws them into combine or something.(rocks/cars/things too big for the grav gun)

Heck, maybe a mobile teleport that you can set up use to go back to a "base" at any point in the game, and at the base look at maps and real time satellite images of a area to find enemies. Then you return to where you dropped it.

A grappling hook FFS! That would kick ASS!

That teleport idea makes me want to vomit.

It's time for a new weapon, and not just new Gravity Gun ammo. Balanced as the arsenal currently is, it's starting to get a bit stale. However, that doesn't mean that the new weapon shouldn't add something significant to the gameplay and be added in just for the sake of adding it.

Give me new weapons. A few of them. For all the reasons Darkside provided.

Great. I tried to put a list in, and the bloody browser stopped responding to mouse imput. So I'm writing this all over again.

Didn't Aperture's boss develop some deadly mercury-infused shower curtains? They could make pretty fun GG ammo.

Seriously though, I agree with Darkside. As long as they don't depend on new weapons for the entertainment value, I don't see what the problem is. I hardly think Valve is in danger of resorting to Quake 4 style gameplay, just by adding a couple of weapons. Fact is, HL2's arsenal is stale, and adding one or two weapons and/or replacing an old one *cough*SMGiscrap*cough* would do away with that. We get most of our kicks from gameplay, story, scripted sequences ect., but Valve have been perfectionists on every other aspect of the games, so why neglect the arsenal?

Anyway, I was thinking of one or several of:

  • Replacement for the SMG, it being the least loved of all HL2's inventory. Something better looking and more accurate would good, and sort out that stupid problem with the grenades.
  • An organic weapon of some kind. An interesting one though, not just some generic alien shit that's basically an old weapon that looks different and makes different sounds.
  • Laser trip mines and/or sachel grenades (as in, remote explosives). Those were some of the funnest weapons in HL, because you could set traps with them, and take out your enemies in more interesting ways.
  • Deadly mercury-infused shower curtains.

Come on, we're going to Aperture. Those guys are like Black Mesa on steroids, or some kind of mind-bending hallucinogenic drug at least. They've got plenty of opportunity to indroduce something new and fun.

Reprogrammed manhacks?

Samon and his solid crew are working on a mod with those in.

A fire extinguisher It's not a weapon

My secondary fire button says different :naughty:

I would like to have a weaponised version of the snark, in grenade form (cracks open to reveal 2-3 snarks)

and perhaps a sonic emitter that attracts houndeyes that have evolved to survive the Artic winter

  • Replacement for the SMG, it being the least loved of all HL2's inventory.

Speak for yourself.

Darkside, I ain't forgot about your post. I'll get to it when I have the time to form a reply of some magnitude.

Samurai Swords have been done to death. Perhaps Gordon picks up a cleaver from a butcher shop that he raids for supplies.

Can Hivehands be synthesised

That fish-gun thing Adrian Shephard had should be a weapon. I miss little Petey. That's his name. Petey. Petey Fishgun.

A chain-saw rocket launcher is a must for completing any arsenal.

I never liked Snarks. If we see any weapon for HL1 return I would want either the Tau cannon or the Glouon sp* gun. If there is a new weapon let it be something like the AR2. Something that use's dark energy. Those kind of weapons own hard.:sniper:

I am with you on this one. The SMG is based off of the H&K MP7 and close quarters machine-pistol (IT'S NOT EVEN A FREAK'N SMG!) that fires bullets smaller than a .22 cal and you could NEVER fit a grenade launcher on that thing the launcher would be bigger that the SMG itself! I would like to see a weapon that takes the "SMG's" place as a 5.56 cal assault rifle (M4, XM8, H&K 416) which would be low damage but very accurate, then a 6.72 cal assault rifle or battle rifle (FNH SCAR-Heavy, M-14) that would do more damage and be just as accurate or more accurate as the 5.56.

three words: Sniper Rifle.

Uh...sniper rifle is two words. Count 'em.

We don't need a sniper rifle. Crossbow is more than sufficient. Pinning combine to walls never gets old.

Frankly, the weapons pretty much haven't changed since the original Half-Life (except for the extra things in Op For). I think that's because they work. They fill pretty much every role you need a weapon for. Can you name a situation where there was absolutely no weapon that was suitable for the task at hand?
I'd like some new way to use existing weapons: like wall surfaces that continually bounce bullets/crossbow bolts or something.

Regaining the pheropods would be nice..

Perhapps something to gain control over headcrabs? Zombie army following you..

For a Bio weapons how about one that lobs sticky acid that sticks to the target and slowly burns/melts them to death? the trip mines would be great! much better than those incompetent hoppers.

Yeah, I always thought hoppers were annoying. They're good as random explosives, but I can never get them to work properly as mines. They always jump up when something gets close to them, waiting just long enough for the enemy to get out of the way before they explode. I dunno, maybe they could replace hoppers with mines that work properly; they don't have to be actual inventory weapons, just another gravity gun toy.

I never used the hoppers much as mines, I just threw them at crowds of enemies. perhaps some kind of mind-control device to use on Combine soldiers?

*cough*
Flamethrower
*cough*

I was actually thinking along the lines of the Antlion worker but okay.... and it would be more of a flame lobber is would fire the globs of a volatile chemical much the same way as the antlion worker but when is hit it would burst into flames, setting the target on fire or setting a section of the floor or wall on fire. that would be cool! flamethrower? kinda. that leaved the "flamethrower" slot open to the Gluon gun. I would rather rip apart my enemies' molecular structure than watch them burn.

I think they should include a flamethrower, i want to melt ice walls. I WANT THEM TO MELLTTT. yeah that'd be awesome.

The possibility to upgrade your Gravity Gun? Set objects on fire, burn up your enemies. Freeze objects, making them hurt the enemy more when thrown. Kinda like the plasmids in BioShock I guess..

1) Not a portal gun. Who the hell said anything about the model? It's a portal gun! We're playing Half-Life, not Portal! Hell, while we're at it, let's have Chrono Gun! Yeah, let's change time, bitch, and just call it "Half-Life: Gun of Time!" -_-

2) Half-Life is not a flamethrower game. I might have envisioned one in the original Half-Life, but I could never see it in Half-Life 2.

3) Tau cannon is always a good choice.

4) And hell, I miss snarks.

Not that I was replying to anyone specifically...

A possible replacement for the Gluon Gun could be the liquidating gun that those janitor type creatures use

The Spore Launcher was great in OF, with it's purr and being stroked by Shepard.

Flamethrowers would be nice. Maybe they could upgrade the Source engine with an ice-melting system.

...Or not.

I would like to see them add in the SLAM to Ep3. It serves a different purpose than any of the weapons we have now (setting traps) and is basically two weapons from HL1 in one, the detpack and the trip mine. Plus, they already have it functioning with a model and everything in HL2: DM. It's a perfect fit.

Look, the Portal gun WILL NOT be in Half-Life 2. The portal gun would basically make Gordon invincable, and when you have a gun that allows you to move throughout areas with ease kinda makes everything else back stage.

Portal gun in Episode 3 would be a kind of untold awful.

Agreed. The portal gun generally needs very carefully designed maps that are built around portal gameplay, making sure that you can't escape or cheat or anything. More importantly, the portal gun belongs in a Portal game, because it takes some getting used to and lends itself to a completely different style of gameplay to HL2. So really, the whole game should be built around it. Also, you'd be able to see Gordon's face, which is like dividing by zero.

I could see the portal gun being used against us in Ep3, then it gets destroyed along with the enemy. But that's it...

Edit: AAGGHH PHEROPODS <3 <3 <3 <3 Unfortunately, I think if we were going to use those again, it would have been in ep2. I think people are sick of Antlions now :( (I think they're cute and am awaiting at plushie to come out)
