Next gen DS

Touch screen is a gimmick. It's not necessary at all.
It's not necessary at all.
Sorry, but that's entirely false, Krynn is right. How isn't it necessary? By that logic, everything is unnecessary, because you don't need it to make a game.

I'm a bit dissappointed the new MGS game for the 3DS is just a 'remake' of MGS3: Snake Eater.

I was hoping for something like a remake of MG1 and 2.

It's not necessary any more than the Kinect motion control or the Wii controller is. There are other ways to control things. Obviously, if it didn't have touch screen, the game would have been controlled differently.

I'm disappointed in the entire line-up so far, pretty much. But in time, there will be some great games. I also hear that they have remade NES classics, like one of my favorites "Mike Tyson's Punch Out!", in 3D. Which could be interesting if they sold a gamepak including classic NES games.

Is this ****ing "Troll Krynn by pretending to be stupid" week or something? Jesus Christ.

A new way of INTERACTING with GAMES is not a gimmick. Whether you want to believe so or not is irrelevant. A purely visual flourish IS a gimmick. As for the rest of your post, I'm not saying the 3DS itself will disappear. That depends on several factors. But I really doubt five years from now the next consoles and next big games will be capitalizing on this current 3D fad because it adds very little significant value and a whole lot of frustration. Which is not a lasting concoction.

And it would be completely shitty.

What if we take the mouse away from counterstrike source? Use your keyboard to aim, like the old days. Yeah, sounds fun. Mouse totally isn't necessary because the game could have been designed differently.

So the Nintendo Power Glove was not a gimmick, but High Definition is, by your logic.

Maybe not (or it could take years and years), because it requires lots of expensive equipment, like brand new Sony Bravia HD (3D ready) TVs with double the frequency and 3D glasses.

I really doubt this will be 'flying off the shelves' like you say. Especially not on the level of the ipod.
Phil Schiller announced total cumulative sales of iPods exceeded 220 million (Sept. 9, 2009)

DS sales top 125 million. Software sales include 688 million. (Jan. 28, 2010)

I'd say that's on similar level. That's the old DS, and I personally think the new 3DS (and later iterations, which I'm going to assume will use 3D) will far exceed that number given a few years.

OK, then. It sounded like it:
I think people are going to eventually just find it annoying due to how exact you need to keep the distance between yourself and the DS. And then it [3D] will disappear just like always.
We're clear. You think 3D on the big screen will flop. Could be right. Depends mostly on Sony, I hate to say. They have a shaky track record when bringing new technologies. It really depends on consumer demand and whether they can make it affordable.

I don't think Nintendo ditching 3D visuals (for example in the next iteration of the DS) is any more likely than them ditching their motion control in the next iteration of the Nintendo home consoles.

Many here called motion control a gimmick, and oh look at MS and Sony.

A whole 'nother dimension of vision, not unlike our own eyes, is insignificant and frustrating for you. Sorry about that.

Come on, bros. It's cooooool to have 3D.

3D on the big screen will almost definitely flop if it's going to be as expensive as Sony is pushing it. But glasses-less 3D that works on a handheld? That's an in. That's a ****ing in.

Yeah it's very cost prohibitive and could take more than a few years to gain any significant ground. But the strong demand is there for 3D, and Sony is in a good position to push it and definitely has incentive to.

1) PS3 is 3D capable for games and movies

2) Sony has it's own film studio and creates 3D films like 'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs', and 'Open Season'.

3) Sony manufactures televisions that can display 3D

4) Sony has clout with film producers that create 3D films

5) Sony can develop it's own 3D games (Killzone 3 is 3D)

6) Sony can manufacture it's own 3D glasses.

7) Sony used to be number one in television sales. Samsung and others have knocked them down several pegs and they are hurting. 3D TVs could be a big help for Sony's ailing television branch because they may be the only company to plunge head first with many models available.

Think about it, you have a PS3 (3D capable), if you are in the market for a new TV, some might consider a Sony Bravia, right? Well, then all you need is the glasses, which aren't that expensive.

Ocarina of Time for it has definitely made me want to buy it.

But really, who buys the first iteration of any Nintendo handheld?

I only just upgraded to a HD-TV... HD-TV isn't even standard yet. Dunno if it's time to push the TV change angle so soon.

I wouldn't call it that, there's some new tech but it's like the gameboy color to advanced. It's worth buying even if there's going to be a slimmer version later (though I don't see that happening, specifically).

I'm in the market for a new monitor, and there are several companies putting out "3D-Ready" monitors. Samsung, Sony, Acer, and several other monitor manufacturers I've seen so far (not really looking).

Right now, it looks like it isn't really competitively priced to have that feature unless you plan to use it. (about $200 extra). Although it does supposedly make FPS and other fast moving games smoother even if you didn't plan to use it for 3D.

I'm honestly not sure if it actually costs them much more to manufacture the monitor to be "3D Ready" or if the price is jacked up because there are so few options, so maybe it will just become the standard feature for any respectable monitor and the price will be unaffected eventually. (wild guess)

For example this monitor:

I totally agree with you guys about 3D TV. It has been a tough enough road getting people to indulge themselves in an HDTV which is still by no means the standard yet. Though prices have come down quite a bit, they are still a lot of money for a lot of people and it is hard to justify such a spend in this economy. Not to mention that 3D with glasses in your living room is just plain silly and annoying. I am LOATHE to buy a 3D TV for this reason in particular, not to mention the ridiculously prohibitive price.

With the 3DS however, it makes a LOT more sense. Supposedly it is NOT cost-prohibitive technology but it is still extremely effective...and without effing glasses!! I will totally get the 3DS and likely love the crap out of it even realizing that a slimmer version may release (I have had my 60GB BC PS3 since right after launch and have zero regrets). The games at 3DS launch will likely be too good to pass up. I am also excited to see what kind of homebrew action people can get out of the impressive new system. :)

I am also a proud owner of the gray brick DS.

I can't even think of any other Nintendo product that had other iterations besides the DS and I guess the SP, but I hate the SP and prefer the classic GBA.

Even with its shitty lack of a backlit screen?

Made up for it with the superior form factor. I don't know what they were thinking with the SP, trying to be more 'portable' I guess; it's a stupid square, terrible.

Even if there wasn't a pocket version of the original Gameboy, I did say 'handheld' in the first place, so GBA / DS alone would be at least half of their product line.

Mind you I had both the brick Gameboy and back-lightless GBA (Vegeta is right though. SP was swapping one turd for another). Thankful I waited for the DS-Lite though. I'm just pretty confident that the 3D screen can and will be improved upon, and that implementing an upgrade wouldn't change the device in any way that would prohibit them from releasing a "3DS Plus" at some point in the all too near future.

That and improving the motion control, which should be ringing alarm bells already considering we know it's there, but not why or how.

Do you know if the 3D screen is permanently in 3D mode? Or can you turn it off? I probably won't get it if I have to deal with the distance issue all the time, but if you can turn it into a normal 2D display then I might.

There's a slider that lets you adjust between 2D and varying amounts of 3Dness.

No one told me it wouldn't have any games.

But really, who buys the first iteration of any Nintendo handheld?

:hmph: Kids these days... When I was a kid, it took 7 years before they released a new version of the GameBoy and all they really did was make it smaller.

I had a beard by then and I hated Nintendo for taking so long - 9 years before releasing a color version - and it wasn't backlit.

16 years for a backlit version of the GameBoy in the US. Atari had done it 16 years before. :(

So, the only Nintendo Portable I've ever owned was the original GameBoy that I bought in 1989.

How about better multiplayer wireless support? A walkie talkie has greater distances than the DS. I tried to play a game of Advance Wars with a friend in another room once at a trade school campus and it was a no-go. It needs something better than bluetooth.

It's Nintendo. It will be 199.99 and launch around September. In October it will go down to 189.99, and in December it will come with a game for 189.99. You might find it for $179 days before Christmas, but I think it will sell so well, that I doubt you will get one at all if you've waited that long.

Same thing they've ever done with anything ever. Ok, not really. But in my opinion, it's obvious this will be the strategy.

A walkie talkie is a good comparison for wireless gaming.

LOL that image is great, it looks like she's listening to a retard.

I think he might be being sarcastic? Either way, she's nodding way too fast. Wasted potential!

Thats the point.
???

Well ok, maybe that was a bad analogy.

Let's just say that bluetooth wireless for handheld gaming devices suck and it would've been fun at that time to play in separate rooms.

Ah, I always forget that Vegeta has a 'woman interacting with the mentally handicapped' fetish.
