The next gen wars are over....eight days after launch the wii has kicked so much ass it's probably a new record of consoles sold...plus 75% of the people who bought a wii also bought Zelda TP. Here is the numbers from gamespot.

But that's game scores..this is about sales not scores.....600,000 in eight days seems like quite an achievement to me.

Last I checked, it was the games which kept people coming back and buying, and not people hearing about sales records. Sure you can sell a bunch of systems quickly using hype, but you need games to get people to come back after the hype has worn down.

The Wii was the easiest of the 3 consoles to make, simply because it wasn't using the latest and greatest and could be made with less defects (of course it still has it's fair share however). I'm sure if the X360 or PS3 had 600,000 units in stock for those few days, they all would have been gone.

So, sure, the Wii sold out of every unit, I'm not surprised. The numbers of how many units it had available shouldn't really be compared to the PS3 / Xbox360 because it's like comparing apples to oranges in terms of how many the manufacturers could produce anyways.

Once the Wii sells ten times that amount, then make another thread celebrating because getting 6 million people using and playing your system is quite an accomplishment.

If I had to choose between 1 of the 3 it would definitely be the Wii. I think the price helps, but isn't the deciding factor in people buying one...

Buy the Christmas edition of EDGE it explains how Xbox360 is doing worse in sales than the Xbox did. Personally the 360 has some good games, I own one myself. But its definatly at the bottom of the three at the moment.

Nintendo make money on every console sold. I believe its something like £40 on every console sold. Nintendo have always made money on there hardware unlike there rivals.

Sony on the other hand looses around £100 on every console sold.

The early sales on the Wii could mean nothing, I have to admit out of the 20 or so games on the Wii launch there are some that got really bad reviews. But the games that didn't are the ones that I will be getting on the EU release.

I have more than enough for a PS3. But I'm not going to buy one. I'm buying a Wii.

I already have a 360 and most of the PS3 exclusives are now comming out for the 360 too. So I have no need to spend £420 + games + cables etc. Plus the Wii seems more interesting to me, some of the games comming out look great!

For that matter, how often do you 'check'? Daily, bi-weekly, etc... some variation thereof? It must be often since you sound so sure of yourself. Infact, there seem to be alot of 'checkers' around these parts, is there some sort of tool or service I can sign up for that will keep me in 'check'? Just so, you know, the next time somebody confronts a random statement I made on a forum somewhere, I can pull out with "Last I checked!" That oughta make them reconsider their stance, my argument will be infallible if I have the awesome power of 'checking' behind me!

Another console that sold out a launch, nothing new here, Europeans have a grudge agains Sony because of the PS3 delay overthere, they want a new gadget/toy/console for christmas and that´s when the wii comes in. come and check the forums around PS3´s European launch next year, and you will see many of these people itching to buy one, and PS3 will sell out over there too, my point is, don´t talk about numbers and winning consoles just yet, give it at least a year...

Well like I said Ive played all three and I think Wii sucks. And IMO most people that can afford to choose 360 or PS3 will. Maybe there are a few that would do otherwise but very few and obviously some of them are on this forum. Hell I have a 360 and a PS3 and was gonna grab the Wii also but then I played it and realised I would only play it for a year then probably never touch it again. Im entitled to my opinion just as much as you are yours. And what you think people will take what you have to say more seriously because your name is Warbie and you like the Wii? Please...but hey time will tell.

I'm glad the Wii is doing well. We need some innovation in this industry - I'm sure I'm not the only one who's finding that a lot of these standard genres are getting old.

No doubt, I think nintendo is very innovative Im not doubting that at all! Im glad they are trying new things because the industry needs it, but unfortunately at least for me what they've done isnt enough.

I can afford a PS3 + Xbox 360 if I wanted one, but what difference is there between the PS2 + Xbox 1? No difference apart from graphics.

Even those Madden games that are the same year after year are actually a viable purchase now, since the gameplay's changed with the new Wii controller. You have to drum the controller to power your throw, then do a throwing motion to throw the ball.

It has nothing to do with me liking the Wii (or my name), but the wider audiences Nintendo are targetting with their recent consoles. You mention that those with a choice will go for a 360 or PS3, yet fail to take into account the large number of buyers who aren't what we'd consider to be traditional gamers and who have no interest at all in the other consoles. These are the same people who have been rushing out to pick up the DS (the main reason it's selling so well) and, Nintendo hope, will be picking up a Wii.

My mum plays on the DS, some of my non gaming friends have bought one, my girlfriend wants one so she doesn't have to keep borrowing mine. None of these would ever consider buying a PS3 or 360, yet they have all (even my mum!) shown some interest in the Wii. This is a massive audience that is starting to associate Nintendo with fun, accessible games that are easy to pick up and play - more akin to board games with the family than the 'blasting aliens' games console under the tele.

Arguing that people would only chose a Wii due to lack of money shows that you're either clueless about the Wii (and everything surrounding it since the first announcement), or being deliberately obtuse.

Well theres part of your problem right there, Im not saying thats the ONLY reason people buy or are interested in the Wii... is becuase of lack of money. Obviously thats not the case, Nintendo is the only company trying anything new which also attracts alot of people to the system. What I am saying is given the right conditions lets say that the 360, PS3, and Wii are at or near the same price level. As well as made their launch debutes with the same amount of systems, I strongly think that the 360 or PS3 would out do the Wii any day!

The Wii looks to have some great games coming to it and has some good games already out. Plus the controller opens up so many possibilites. I really don't see the hype behind the Ps3 or why people want one besides for either A. Cheap Blu-Ray Player or B. MGS+The Ps3 Exclusives(But then they wouldn't you wait until those games come out? Ps3 would probably be cheaper.).

I honestly dont understand why anyone would buy a ps3 unless they have money they dont know what to do with, who own a hdtv and plan on buying bluray movies. There is nothing innovative at all about the ps3. The only thing they are doing is improving graphics, which they were beaten to by the xb360. Sure it might be slightly better then the 360 in graphics, but not $600+ better.

I know people with a ps3 and I know people with a wii. All the people with a Wii are happy with their purchase. Only a few of the ps3 people werent completely disappointed.

And before anyone tries and pulls a "your a nintendo fanboy!" crap... I am not. I am a PC gamer and am not going to buy a console. But if someone offered me one, I would choose the wii, simply because it is the only console that is doing anything interesting at all, and thus is the only console worth a damn.

O belive im not, Im on many other gaming forums and this is just one of the many. This is the only forum Ive seen so much support for the Wii and yet the thing of it is I like nintendo for what they are trying to do I just think in general the system sucks. So ill give up on the argument and Wii people can all the fun they want with it but I dont think it will last. But hey I hope it does for their sake, and with that Im done! :rolling:

No no, I had never played *Halo* and made *obscene judgements* on the game. However I've matured since then....except for today when my entire mouth was numb for about a few hours and I tired to eat(Fun and Anger at the same time!).

Since then i've come to play Halo and Halo 2. While I liked Halo...... I'm not a big fan of Halo 2 MP. I'm a lot better at Halo's MP . It's always great because my cousins are big console gamers(throw in a little DoD, Wc3, and Sc on the PC). So i'll play Halo with them every now and then....and some games I just dominate and they get all pissed because I rarely play it.
