A few weeks ago i went and reserved my copy of hl2, the guy said it was coming out november or december. Today i called and wanted to see if they were getting any special editions, he said that he dosnt know yet, and to call back closer to the release. I asked him when they will be getting the game and he said the end of september.

I know that EB games is not valve or anything but its good enough for me. Just though some of few might want to hear that.

i figure if everyone thinks theres a delay that i might as well tell them the sources that say there isnt..

/me dumps Tredoshop in a river.

Thanks for the info Ridic, but I never doubted the Sept 30th date. Valve never confirmed it, so I never let it bother me.

Whoah, eb games must have teh mad skillzorz to know that!
I think VAC is gonna ban them.

Did I say you can dump my body? No I did not! It was directed at [Hunter] Ridic.

I'm assuming that Valve (and/or the publishers) will make some sort of official announcment about the release date at ECTS later this month - with it being a trade show and all. I'm holding back all assumptions until they do this.

Those that argue that it is not delayed because Valve havn't confirmed a delay really show no logic. Surely if there wasn't a delay Valve would stand up straight away and officially deny it. Even rumors of delays make developers look bad, which they don't want without due cause.

Im putting my hopes on the September 30th release date. It seams like they denied that it was pushed back to nevember, at least from what ive heard. And they've been working on it for so long, its not like when most games get pushed back because they start working on it when they actually announce it...before that they just kind of plan it seems. And the sooner the better (unless its buggy). :borg: :borg:

The uk game chart for coming soon games, HL2 release date is the 12 of november. I ll wait and see

Im pretty sure September 30th is still the official release date.

I personally think that if there was to be a delay in HL2, Valve would let us know before the last official release date... so if it is to be released in november, i would like to think that they would tell us before the septemeber release date expired.

It's all IMO, of course. :)

Yeah, it still is untill VALVe says otherwise, all we have is a miscommunication at Vivendi.

I dont really beleive anything untill I see it go gold.

Unless valve wants to hide the fact that it will go gold....

Considering the nature of game development, it would be prudent and most wise to view any release date given, even those given by the developers themselves, as speculation and estimation at best, as opposed to a firm probability. In doing this, one lessens the chance of disappointment when a release is delayed due to unforeseen problems which prove difficult to rectify, as is common in this industry.

True, but valve have been working on HL2 for something like 5 years already, so it's much more likely in this case than any other that Valve would be able to make a more accurate estimation of how long it will take them to finnish the game. Unlike most game companies, Valve only announced HL2 when they were confident that the product was near enough to completion to release in a couple of months. The reason many release dates change is that companies make their guesses earlier in the development process, when there's is a high chance that more complications could arise later on.

I'm pretty confident that valve will be able to pull off September 30 - it's not unrealistic at all, they've been working on the game for years. We're just not used to games being released so soon after they're announced, that's all :)

Edit: By the way, do you always post in character? :cheese:

Logic,

As your moniker would suggest, your logic is quite sound. My comment was more of a general observation of the industry, rather than being directed specifically at valve. However, it would be wise to keep in mind that until the game is dispatched to destributors, all release dates given are all but definite and subject to change at any moment.

Live long and prosper.

We'll know it in 40 days.

Think of it. September 30 isn't unrealistic at all for a GOLD announcement. Valve still has 40 days to cure out all little glitches. And since most of the work they do on hl2 now is small gameplay balancing (as read in severly mails), 40 days is an absolutely realistic time schedule.

I'd say it gets gold to the end of september, and then half a month later it'll ship. Sierra first needs to put up a huge advertisement system, and I Bet hl2 isn't a normal game to publish, so they'll need some time.
Sierra will first make a

It was said somewhere that 30th Sept is Valve's Release date for steam. Sierra might have their own plans. If this is the case then they have right up until they distribute it too servers to work on it.

Read the new PC Gamer with the interview with Gabe. On the side in little letters it says the info you all need to hear. I think the Gold date is September 30th.:afro:

Vivendi might screw things up like they always do... they might push back the release date for marketing reasons: for the holiday season and such.

Wrong. The larger the project, the more difficult it is to release it. Every feature they added in the last 5 years MULTIPLIES the difficulty of actually finishing the project.

While I would be pretty disappointed, I wouldn't be that surprised if HL2 didn't even come out this year. I know everyone on this forum thinks Valve has some kind of magical powers or something, but seriously, when was the last time a major game was released without delays? Blizzard can't do it, iD can't do it, Valve hasn't been able to do it (HL1 was delayed by a year). If it's released on Sept 30, it will be an unprecedented accomplishment. Given the statistical likelyhood of it, people should be surprised if a game makes its first release date, not surprised when it gets delayed.

You got into daddys pills again didnt you :p

I think yall just sayin all this stuff about it being still sep 30 just to make yourselves feel better. It's like a 90% chance that it really will be delayed. Valve doesn't care about making surprises n such telling us that it's delayed and then surprise release. That surprise would infact decrease the amount of sales the first month because alot of people wouldn't know about it's release. Also, the holiday release seems more reasonable because I'm sure they all want to make more money and sales would increase during holidays obviously.

I only started this because of the fact that when everyone was first hearing about the dealy the places i called had the date set on november. Now they say sept 30. Something had to of changed their minds....

Has anyone read the latest e-mail in the Valve Info Thread?

Yes, but Gabe is still equivocating (there's one for Sp0ck). He has neither confirmed or denied the delay, just given us a vague refutation of the Nov. 14th release date. I wish VALVe would give us some substantial information concerning the delay, but I don't think they're certain themselves. Here's to hoping for Sept. 30th.

Hunter, if that's true I wish they would update their website.

yo i went into GAME and it said in behind the counter on a wall..((((it had a list of games and release dates))))

anyway it said for HALF-LIFE 2 SEPT 30th!!

so i am happy

I can write
"Sept 30th - Half-Life 2 release" on my wall and it wont mean nothing. its just the expected date. All game stores will do that to make consumers want to pre-order or whatever.

I think if they were to delay, it would be announced months ahead, not weeks.

Pessimistic f00ls!

Just for you Vitale, I'm going to spray "SEPT 30TH" on my walls with fluorescent green paint!

lol, walk down every street and see "HALF-LIFE 2 SEPTEMBER 30TH!"

I still beleive that it will be realeased on Sep. 30th...and dscowboy....i WOULD be surprised if it didn't come out by the end of the year! :borg: :borg:
