Found this homepage about a girl rifding the death-zone of Chernobyl with her ninja-bike. She drives right up to the ghost town and the so called "magic wood", named after the red colour after the reactor incident. The pictures taken remind me of- guess what? But as you see this in reality it is so very scary, that I feel kind of sick. Makes you understand the difference between reality (i.e. deathzone) and fiction (city 17). It`s just a game-fortunately.
check this homepage out-this nuttys girl drives along with her geyger-counter for good. The scariest pictures are in the end: ghost town and a real close up approach to the "risen and still shining"-block 4 of chernobyl.
How do you feel seeing this?

Sorry I forgot to mention it: the HP is in german, but the pictures are self explaining- although the texts show the deep sarcasm of the ukrainian people concerning this matter-if u post a picture, i may translate the linked comment for you.

Thanks for adding the englsih translated version, Maxi Kana!
to be honest, I did not try the search function, because I thought this would be way off topic. But maybe "this coffee can be warmed up" again- at least i found this homepage most interesting

by the way: me-no-headcrab-any-more!
And it is not fully true, that all people who have joined after August 04 are sh.-bags

Yeah, definately. That's a VERY interesting site, though it takes awhile to read through it all.

Pretty creep pictures imo. Especially those of the childrens playground :(

Wasn't there something going round t'internet that it was all bullshit?

Real page: http://www.kiddofspeed.com/default.htm

Was posted sometime last year I think first time?

Pretty crazy, but apparently the radiation is lower on the asphalt than off the road.

EDIT: Link to start of story. http://www.kiddofspeed.com/chapter1.html
She's got a great way of describing events and the pictures. Very creepy feeling

This is the highest building in town. On the day of disaster, many people gathered on this roof to see the beautiful shining cloud above the Atomic Power Plant.

Really creeps me out that bit.

yeah, she faked it all with CG  don't be silly course its not BS, how on earth does one person make all that up with all those pictures, besides its common knowledge is that place, so whoever told you it was fake needs a good slap.

There was a link posted in here ages ago to a forum where they had spoken to someone who 'works' at Chernobyl (regulating people visiting and stuff), according to the forum there was no way anyone would be let into Chernobyl by themselves.

I can't remember it exactly, and I've just woken up :p

Wasn't it confirmed that this is basically hype machine for STALKER?
Oh and STALKER looks much, much, much more like those pictures than HL2.

Who cares, she's cute

Besides if it is a hoax, whats the other one about Kiev during the war hyping? Call of Duty? ;)

Yep and the chernobyle reactor core superheated the ground beneath it enough to melt its way through the surface, and is actually 17 miles below sea level.

Yeh, we can all go there when Stalker is released. I'm doing it in glorious 3D courtesy of my ED shutter glasses.

that is very interesting. what a cool girl.

she had a geiger counter with her; she explains that at the beginning.

anyone elese find this funny "I don't count those couple of times when "experts" tried to invent an excuse to give me a shower, because those had a lot more to do with physical biology than biological physics. next page"

How can you not know about Chernobyl...?

Anyways, she explains the whole thing event in her article.

Im so buying STALKER now, i hope it somehow recreates what happend on the actual day, do we know if it is going to be in a parallel universe where the radiation caused mutants from the start of in this universe when suddenly one day loads of mutants start coming out. I never knew of the extent of what happend, has there been a movie made or anything?

Well the real Chernobyl doesn't have mutants like you'd find in Stalker. But there were births that were effected by it. Even parts of other countries and part of the UK was effected a little. I think it was mostly sheep that were effected in parts of the UK.

And it is surprising some people don't know about what happened. It's like kids not knowing when WWI and WWII happened... Unfortunately you can bet those who don't know when WWII happened are working on WWII mods.. explains how they have Rocket ships in em ;)

Sorry I asked before I began to read the article in English.. i was born in 1989 late 1989 so this somewhat happened before my time that I could remember such events and my history classes/ science classes really dont have enough time in the curriculum for a school year to get to such a current date as the 1980s and up but probably this year in my biology class we will learn something about it besides where i live no one really comes up to me and weeps about chernobyl its one of thoose things that only get referened to rarely

Hello folks, I am back again!

No1 : I have not posted this because of STALKER coming out soon, I just stumbled across this site after I have had a discussion about what happened exactly in Chernobyl that time- especially concerning the faulty construction of the RBMK-reactor, the so called SCRAM-effect that caused the catastrophe after mismanagement of the reactor personel. So I googled this site up amongst others.

No2: Those who did not get it: on page one of this thread there is also a link to the English version of that homepage.

I am pretty sure that it is no hoax- the girl has mentioned that she hadtaken most but not all of the pictures on her own.

No3:After the incident the radiation increased in germany as much as up to 85% of that amount, that all the open surface atomic bomp tests of the 1950`s did- a huge amount of increase. The mushrooms my mum was growing in our garden were very contaminated and not for eating any more....the chernobyl cloud hit germany and it was a rainy week especially where I lived.

I never thought it was a hoax cuz how you say germany was affected by that and that was made by a german girl

also I want to thank you for this stuff cuz I didnt know too mcuh about that incident and that "report" or whatever is explained a lot of stuff about that
I didnt know that was so serious that incident
and the photos were cool too

Real creepy, cool stuff.

Badass chick, man :p

Am I the only one who thinks it would be incredible to go driving through "the zone"?

No, I'd love to, would be quite an experience going there. One for the to-do list.

Too bad you aren't allowed to... she had "government permission" or something.

And then theres the cancer...

Yeah, pictures are good enough for me :p

I read somewhere that there are actually stable mutations in the region near Chernobyl. There are odd mutated pinetrees with highly unusual leaf structures, some invertebrates that are slightly larger than normal, stuff like that.
