I was reading the Help Support Desk section about this guy that needs help on the Nova Prospekt chapter and it made me wonder:

For those that played on the Hard difficulty, on the part that Alyx tells you to go on that she'll catch up that you end up in the middle of a huge fight where there's no way out because your surrounded by those portal doors (what are those actually called?) that you can't get through, and the only way out is to wait for Alyx. You're given 3 turrets and some ammo boxes to stay alive for about 5 minutes of non-stop combines, how long did it take you to get past that part?

It took me about half an hour/15 tries to make it through.

Sorry had to XD

the first time was very hard for me on normal at this part D:

I kept dying, so eventually I stacked a bunch of boxes and climbed up on one of those side balkonies and just let ther turrets do there thing while I shot down from above.

Some might consider that cheap, but I was being creative.

First time through that level I died like 10 times. I wish I was urber-pro like some of you guys here :bonce:

for some reason it took longer my second time through :p but i probably did in about 10-15 minutes.

bah,carry an extra turrent
its high-power with infinite ammo, scans the area for you, makes getting to the fight easier, then trap yourself in the turrent room and alt. fire the shotgun when necassary, the turrents know what to do

Yeh that's definitely one of the toughest parts of the game.

Got it on the second go on Normal, for which I am ashamed :|

yea that one was pretty hard, until i stopped being dumb and went into the room with the ammo boxes and set the turrets up in there. since then ive played it a few times and its been pretty easy. i just set up in there and place objects in the way of the turrets so they have to come in there to knock them down, but by the time they get close enough the turrets take them out or i do.

I do the balcony thing once in a while. I usually take the turrets and set up in one of the open cells, much easier defending one doorway than two.

The last time I tried to stay in the little area where you get the turrets. But damn, at one point I had a manhack and 3 nades in there. Which leads me to believe the Combine are p.o.s. spammers. :)

I remember pushing one or two big file cabinets from the watery area to the standoff level so I could block combine soldiers from coming in.

That took ages though

hahahaha i know, hate when they knocked down my turrets with nades, soooo annoying.

What I did was set up in the room where the turrets originally are I put 2 on one door and 1 on the other but more towards the middle of the room, then i guarded mostly the side that had 1 turret and it went smoothly from there because the 2 other turrets were straight up owning every combine.

I remember clogging up one of the gates and let the combine die from the other three.

I think valves idea was for you to hold one gate while the turrets take care of the rest.

I find that carrying turrets from the previous area to be cheating (Gordon wouldn't know to do that) but whatever. I put two turrets in the middle hallway(by the mp7 ammo box) and placed the barrels and boxes in front of them. The soldiers die before they can move them out of the way.

You just set all the turrets up where they came from (those cabinets), only the other way around, facing out. You hide in the empty cabinet, and when the combine come in, they can't knock any of the turrets over or come close enough to kill you.

It was the hardest part of the game. But that's because it is the hardest part in the game. On the third try or so, I figured out the best way of doing it. At which point it was pretty easy.

I should try doing it without turrets actually, should be quite fun.

I had the same problem and ended up with the same solution :D. I kept dying and kept trying new things until this strategy finally worked.

I took the turrets with me though and set them up on the balcony.

I didn't die once... I had five turrets. (You need to bring the other two with you)

And at the end with the teleporter, I had 8 turrets so it was all cake. And it was all on hard.

Screenshots
that wasn't in the that specific room but it shows I had 5 turrets:

The one with 8

Hmm... never thought of that. Just left my turrets as they were.

Besides, I only ever really used one turret anyway.

No. You go for the wonderfully cowardish and yet so rewarding way of crouching inside one of the turret bunkers and holding it with your grav gun. :)

Works every time.

Grenades?

Quick drop of the turret, pick up and lob back. Not too hard. Besides, there aren't that many, they're too busy beating the turret which they can't knock over.

It's basically an abuse of their AI.

Same.

The most difficult for me on Hard is always the gunship battle before entering Nova Prospekt.

Psht. Those Gunships are piss compared to the turrets.

Episode three is going to feature the biggest Gunship battle of all games, it's going to introduce the crab synth, and assassin too.

I JUST KNOW IT.

EP1 WILL HAVE HYDRA AND CREMATOR, I JUST KNOW IT

I find it annoying when the antlions get in my way, causing me to be riddled with machine gun fire. Course you can't just kill the antlions as more will pop up from the earth.

I just camped in the turret placeholders and shotgun them one by one.

That's my technique! Never fails me :D set up the other turrets and charge madly around with one, when the Combine knock any over just let your turret friend protect you as you fix it.

Combine Weighted Companion Turret <3

Hmm... Weighted Cube vs Weighted Turret.

Who will win?!?
