Anyway, since throwing around democracy seems to be the safe word from criticism for any action by a western state, Britain had massive anti-war protests before Tony Blair happily ignored them and went to war anyway.


British public is still against the war, British troops still dying for no good reason, still have a prime minister who wont stop sniffing up Washington's ass.

I say the rest of NATO pulls out and leaves the US to its own ill considered conflicts, invading a central Asian country for no real reason but vengeance isn't exactly what NATO is for anyway.

Does that mean we "give up" in Afghanistan, pack our bags, and go home? What is that going to solve?

The dead-end pointless tide of loss, from public funds up to human lives, either through fatalities on all sides or from the broken human beings sent back to their home countries and then cut off to live a life with the trauma of fighting an enemy they didn't have to fight in the first place.

It is like weeds in your yard, you can keep killing them and keeping them down or you can give up and let them devour the rest of the beautiful green grass.

If that analogy was accurate then why don't people invade their neighbours yards all the time to do the gardening for them?. Not our problem in all honesty.

Here's another cute analogy, you don't kill the weeds and create a garden by burning down the whole plot.

It might have been more justified to invade Afghanistan, but ironically greater success was always going to be had in Iraq, it was hardly assured but who is more likely to embrace the new regime, a central Asian desert shit hole that has barely adopted firearms and the motor vehicle let alone other trappings of modern civilization, or a largely urban civilized population of modern Iraqi's?.

Pick and chose our battles. All we are doing in Afghanistan is giving the Taliban the cause they need to draw constant recruits for their little mini holy war there.


Love America, and I fully supported staying in Iraq because there was actually a glimmer of hope in doing so, but Afghanistan...there is poverty stricken conflict ridden African states with better prospects then that place. Any nation keeping its forces there are simply wasting lives and resources.

and where the hell have you been the last few years? winning in iraq? installing democracy? there is no "winning" iraq. things are far worse now than during saddam's time. more people have died as a result of the US invasion than in the 30 years of saddam's rule. really you'd have to be deaf dumb and blind to think the US is winning in iraq, they're on the way to abondoning it, there's a huge difference
