I'm not against this regardless of what you might automatically think.

An increased civilian aspect in issues like this was supported by the founding fathers. It's also known as the militia.

If Obama does win and this is implemented, hopefully it isn't use to weaken the second amendment however by using the "militia" arguement.

I really hope he's talking about renewed investment in a civilian militia.

The police having more national security roles is just going to see those roles tuned towards their primary role- criminal investigation, which means more harassment for your average person.

As a counter the government's standing army and foreign threats. That's the whole point.

Any foreign threat that may arise, not a SPECIFIC one at this moment.

Because while it is government funded it would be under civilian control. Just as many organizations are federally funded but not controlled by the government.

No, the exact reason we NEED a civilian militia force is to counter the threat of the federal government to the constitution.

They should not be a police force or have ANYTHING to do with law enforcement, it should be there to counter any threat foreign or domestic, government or not- that's what a militia is for.

Not necessarily foreign threats. Also, a civilian militia can easily stand against a government. look at Vietnam, or Iraq for that matter. It's called guerrilla warfare and it works wonders. I'm a strong supporter of a well armed civilian militia, but not an organized one. I think the founding fathers had a good idea when they said "every citizen a soldier". Every able bodied man in this country should be part of a figurative "militia".

Since when is walking down the sidewalk presenting a problem. Or driving down an empty street at night? WTF man it's nothing I've done. Like I said there's been times where it's my fault and I'm not listing any of these (even if they were excessive those times. If I got stopped while doing a crime I'm not going to complain about whatever happens)

Also this isn't Scotland. Cops are a hell of a lot different here. Even the Maricops sherriff department (Joe Arpaio) drives around pulling you over if you look Mexican. They ask if you're illegal and if so they lock you in a cage in public until they can send you to immigration, if not they find something else to ticket or get you for. I'm not kidding either

These things have happened to me. Just for walking down the sidewalk, not exaggerating. It was 12:30 and past curfew. Someone in our group looked under 18. They pulled us all aside and had to put our hands on the hood. One cop went in and turned on the car laughing, and aimed the spotlight in everyones face. They thought it was hillarious. The ones who took their hands off got slammed around.

There's plenty of harassment and abuse that goes on and just because it's not reported or publicized doesn't make it not happening.
