Well this is my first OCing, so im pretty nub at it. ive OCed to 2100 mhz so far and the temps havent changed at all it seems to me, im using a stock fan and was wondering how far i could go...or if i should buy a nice fan for it? im idling at around 35-38 c and loading at a max of 44

ya know nvm..someone close this thread, i just tried to go to 2150mhz and it froze...so i dont want to take chances, i dont think a 10% boost will do too much anyway (though i could be wrong)

The 64bit amd's don't overclock as much as the XP's.

That asus dude has his at 2300 mhz but thats probably cause he has some nice cooling

The 64 bits do overclock, but not as much as the XP's, theres not many 64 bit 3000+'s running at 2.5ghz speeds is there?

they have a fx-53 at 2.9 ghz ;) and with some cooling one site got a 643000+ to 2.45ghz

What I am basically saying is, its easier just to overclock a XP chip. You need a lot more cooling to overclock the 64bits higher.

most a63 3000's i have seen seem to get around 2.35-2.45 GHZ

I have the new A64 stepping. CG I believe. The C0 is the older stepping.
I am running stock cooling although I did put AS3 on.
I can hit 240 base clock (x10=2400MHz) without changing the voltage (1.5V).
I can hit 245 (x10=2450MHz) when upping it to 1.5V.
My PC2700 2-2-2-5 memory holds at 204MHz (4/5 ratio).
I can't get beyond 245 (2450MHz) with it being stable.

I wonder what stepping you have.

um well if this helps..i built this comp in late april/early may

well damn :-\

and it was odd that my comp froze even when it was at a low temp..

Got my 3000+ to 2.5 GHz, 1.7v. 250 x10 . Got some cheap Samsung ram (2x512). 39 C idle, 54 C under load, using a Zalman CNPS7000A-ALCU heatsink. My motherboard is a MSI K8N Neo Platinum NFORCE3 250GB.

It could be a lot of things.
SATA controller, Memory, PCI/AGP bus that isn't locked, Voltage or other bios settings.
When did it freeze? Did you get all the way into windows?
What board do you have?

Just noticed this but in my previous post I ment 'upping it to 1.55v' for 245.

Yeah I was wondering what the heck you were talking about Asus.

im using the "core center" that was included with my k8t NEO board..i never went into windows
