What is everyone's experience with drugs like Adderall and Ritalin? Have you ever been diagnosed with A.D.D. or a similar condition? I ask this realizing it's a bit of a ridiculous question given our times, I'll assume that a good half or more have at least been told they had attention problems of some sort.

My story is something like this: I was diagnosed with a sequential processing delay and Attention Deficit Disorder at about 15, and never really did anything about it. I started doing well when I went to Uni and I cared more for my grades but I realized my attention span was still atrocious. It's half a motivation problem, one quarter failure to pay attention and another quarter general low energy and mood issues.

tl;dr: I've recently been taking advantage of my Adderall prescription, and when I use them properly I can get far more than I ever though possible done. I'm not advocating anything here, I've had years to realize exactly what the proper dose is and to figure out worst case scenarios, but I'd like to hear some of your experiences.

Was diagnosed with ADD a couple months ago. Tried two drugs, one which gave me a head ache, and one which gave me chest pain. Neither helped my focus, I really just have a motivation problem, if anything.

I have little faith in the system when it comes to mental health.
But I am glad you have something that works for you.

I have the right prescription for the wrong diagnosis. You can't argue with a medical proffesional (most have superiority complexes) hey what would I know?? I'm only ME!!! It's not like I know what I experience or anything.... : /

I would guess that I wouldn't respond well to a stimulant (depending on my mood). I frequently alternate between overly lethargic states, and hypomania. I use caffiene (excessively) for the former and alcohol/THC for the latter. Although the effectiveness is debatable (and the effects on my health over a long period of time are no doubt negative), they all help somewhat.

There's a poll up now, thanks for the reasonable answers (so far) guys. I think there's definitely a problem of over-prescribing and under analyzing things on a case-by-case basis, particularly in the United States. Let's keep the discussion directed towards practical and intelligent experimental accounts and away from "TRIPPIN BALLZ MAN".

I took adderall last year at around this time to study for my finals, mainly my pre-calculus final. It helped me stay awake for 2 days (the second of which was after my final), but I don't think I would have been able to cram and retain all that information without it.

Don't forget the best kind of amphetamines. Methylated amphetamines!

Concerta was the first one I took, I had forgotten it's name.

Methamphetamine pretty much can't be used as a supplement, per se, and I thusly didn't include it in the poll. Feel free to prove me wrong on that, though.

At first I thought the thread was about recreational use. Recreationally, my highly regarded, unbiased, scientific view would be :

HELL YEAAA TRIIPPIN BAAALLLLLLLZZZZZZZZZZ NIGGAA!!!!

But srsly, I would never **** with something that might **** with me. (As in would ACTUALLY cause serious harm to either my physical body or mind, not just because mr policeman and daddy said it's naughty)

I have never taken any drug to purposely affect my state of mind.

Amphetamine abuse/addiction is pretty horrific and sad, and simply put, not worth it. What is interesting to me, however, is how every popular college or university in the United States and Europe seems to have a second hand Adderall market which surfaces particularly around exam time.

I was just joking around.

Too much breaking bad.

I take vitamins, but not to strengthen focus. I don't think anything but certain games will do that.

Take the terminology loosely, the poll was intended to simply ask if you'd ever used any of the aforementioned in order to "supplement" your day to day life.

Diagnosed with ADD, stopped taking Ritalin because HMO's suck.

Caffeine
Adderall (Dex/Levoamphetamine mixed salts)
Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine)
Ritalin (Methylphenidate)
Cocaine (benzoylmethyl ecgonine) or similar alkaloids
Herbal/Vitamin supplements
Straterra (Atomoxetine)
Concerta (Methylphenidate)
Busbar (Buspirone)
Wellbutrin (Bupropion)

I think it would be fun to take them all at once.

Disclaimer?

I'm sorry, it's like - I'm starved, and you just showed me the menu. I didn't mean to screw up your thread.

I was on Ritalin when I was like in 2nd grade (about 10 years old), and I just stopped taking it. From what I remember, it helped a lot, but I found that being normal was quite boring.

You forgot nicotine. That's my primary stimulant, together with caffeine.

This thread makes me high

I've used the first 5 or so options on the poll, as well as Focalin (dexmethylphenidate, similar to Ritalin). I have never been diagnosed with ADHD or anything, but I'm about 90% sure I could be if I went to a psychiatrist or whatever. I haven't simply because I have no desire to be on any sort of ADD meds 24/7. However for uni work I do sometimes with my friends take an adderall or whatever to study for 12 hours straight on a weekend if I have some big project/paper to do or exams to study for (maybe 3-4 times a semester).

Dextroamphetamine is the most effective by a long shot for me (Adderall/Dexedrine) and will enable me to focus intensely on anything I want to for the duration. Ritalin and Focalin (methylphenidate and dexmethylphenidate) are relatively effective but not nearly so as dextroamphetamine. Cocaine just makes me talk shit, and I haven't touched the stuff in three years nor do I plan to.

I'm thinking that next semester I might start taking piracetam daily, which is supposed to improve mental lucidity, cognition, and focus a little bit.

Caffiene's stimulant properties are negligible - they don't really help me focus, because if I drink/take enough caffeine to have a noticeable effect on my focus it also makes me jittery and tense, which doesn't help in the slightest. Nicotine just provides me with a nice break between studying, but that's probably because I'm addicted to it :3

how do you get access to this stuff, because I'd like to self-medicate.

I have literally dozens of friends who are prescribed ADD meds, it's pretty easy.

When you get jittery from coffee you're OD'ing. You're doing it wrong, heheheh.

Unhealthy lifestyle buddies, high five!

only after a few drinks. so yeah, no. I generally dislike cigarettes. I only really consume tobacco in rolling form for splifs, I think commercial cigarettes taste pretty disgusting.

when i was like 4 my teacher thought i had ADD, and she was a great supporter of Ritalin.

i got checked out, i didn't have ADD. no Ritalin for me.

so just caffeine.

Good post. Dexadrine is one I've found helps me a lot as well, but has a pretty significant crash associated (in my case). I typically take about 1mg of Aprazolam (Xanax) or simply hop in bed to negate that. I couldn't recommend benzos to most people for negating amphetamine crash, because together they can tax the body pretty heavily.
