Official Bad Company 2 thread - no beta talk here!

Ok that's it. I'm never ever preordering a game again. No matter if it makes it cheaper or they give me 400,000 unlocks, it's not worth dealing with the BS that these companies love to toss on everyone on launch day. No preloads, late releases, fail servers, bugs all over the place. I'd rather wait a week or two and not have to deal with it.

What I don't get is that no other industry can get away with this. If a movie comes out, do they make it so half the movie isn't viewable or bogs down and unwatchable? When they release a new car, will it not run for the first couple days or only go 20 mph?

I'm just venting out of frustration in fighting this damn game all night trying to get in a game only to have crazy ping and get disconnected or having the game crash. It doesn't help that I have to keep seeing EA... it's like branding a turd and then waving it around in hopes that one day it turns into a diamond.

Don't be stupid. They're not going to buy 100 extra servers and pay for cockloads of bandwidth just to support a rabid consumer base for one or two days. No company would be that stupid. Its a waste of money. And your movie industry analogy is completely irrelevant. Movies don't all stream from one companies' server. They use the resources of the theaters.

There's no perfect analogous industry... and I think that's the issue. Also, it's not like servers aren't a malleable resource... so I'd imagine if they make another game they could use them for that. Of course, since the gaming world has the attention span of a goldfish, this can continue as long as they wish and everyone will forget in a week. Seems like a relatively easy solution, but I guess the minor depreciation of the servers in the time between this release and EA's next release is sufficient to deter the investment.

Regardless, I did just say I was venting.

They wouldn't need those servers for another couple years most likely, and by then they will be shit computers. Its a waste of money. And thats just talking hardware, not bandwidth and infrastructure costs that would be required to compensate for the first week demand, and that would be ridiculous overkill for the entire rest of the game's lifespan.

So yeah, next time dont get an online game thats so highly anticipated on day one if you can't deal with the annoyances that come with it. It will never, ever go smoothly. You can still pre-order, just don't bother trying to play right away.

What I'm saying is, they're going to buy servers anyways. EA will probably release 10 games in the next two years, so if they can't manage to make use of extra servers in that time then I'm not sure what they're doing. The same goes for bandwidth and whatever "infrastructure" includes. The only real loss of investment is the potential man hours setting up extra servers and the potential depreciation IF the load drops off and they don't have any use for servers and bandwidth. Of course, all servers are useless after a while, that's how computer hardware works. The only way to justify having them is to use them and, given the rate at which EA pumps out games, I think they can use them.

But yeah, they won't do it no matter how minute the cost may end up being because, well, frankly no one will care a week from now. Everyone was donning pitchforks and torches when L4D2's release was delayed and things were bumpy when it did play, but no one even remembers now.

played some more on the PSTriple and it was more fun. got to add a few friends, played with a few others I know and overall this game is fun. didn't touch singleplayer but i'll give it a whirl on thursday. as for now i wish i had more energy to play more but my .85 kill death ratio isn't as bad as i thought it would be. everyone else was like level 3 and higher and i just squeeked past lvl 2

the one thing i'm going to miss the most about having to wait three weeks before i get online is missing out on the cluster**** that is everyone getting used to the game, but getting steamrolled by the folk who know the games mechanics or adjust quickly. not being bigheaded, but i always seem to get off to great starts in the first week of release and then manage to hold it from there. once i got past level 50 on BC i held a rank of 1/2 until... well, i still hold it, occasionally slipping to 3 once and a while.

i got online with COD4 a month after release and hated it for two weeks solid because of how far behind i was, then as soon as christmas hit i started to love it.

Played about 3 hours straight of Squad Deathmatch. Me a 3 other friends dominated. I played medic and got so many revive/health pack points its crazy. Was averaging 8-9k points each game. In just a little over 3 hours gameplay time I reached something like 3,000 place on the Xbox 360 leaderboard while most people around me have 10+ hours played.

Me and c0rr4d0 just played a few rounds together, and it was awesome. :D

Of course the night ended when we both CTD'ed... *sigh*

There is no ticket counter in Conquest mode neither?

What the hell does he mean by "the PC version lags well behind" when talking about the graphic difference between PC and Consoles? Isnt it the opposite? lol

He said PC BC2 lags behind other PC shooters(which I don't know), not the console versions.

Im not sure if there was a thread dedicated to this but what are your names in bc2 so i can add people...getting annoyed with the lack of teamwork in the games ive been in.

the game is unreal though, and that goes far the single player as well. it's just really fun where it needs to be.

In the few minutes I actually played, I got crushed in a helicopter a few times by unknown projectiles. No missle lock... just flew up and was killed before I knew what hit me. I think I'll have to get used to that.

It's funny that someone mentioned it was too dark on PS3 or whatever, because when I loaded it up it was way too bright... especially from the tank position where it's got that night visiony look... bascically I couldn't see anything. I turned it down but I couldn't get into a game for the next two hours so I don't know if it's any better.

What's everyones performance like? My pc seemed to handle the beta better in terms of fps than the full game. I got everything on medium/2x AA 1600x1200.
3ghz wofldale dual core
4gb ddr2
geforce 260gt
win 7

I didn't mess around with the settings much, I just have it on medium 16x9 because I haven't really had enough in-game time to gauge where I'm gonna be on framerate when there's a lot of action going on. It looks pretty good on medium and from what I've seen my framerate feels pretty good... but people were saying something in the forums about 8x AA being the most smooth of the choices? I don't really remember, but if it works better today I'd like to do some tweaking.

Also, since multiplayer was sucking it... I was doing some single player and found out quickly that having it on hard is pretty damn difficult. I kept just offhandedly dying without really knowing what happened. I don't know if I can change it on the fly but I might just tough it out and see how it goes.

Hopefully there aren't as many cutscenes in the whole game as there have been in the levels up to Bolivia.

don't forget that you can change other settings not found in-game like FOV and bloom

just open the settings.ini file in mydocs/bfbc2

StarBob - Good god, you're acting like the game just raped your mother because you are having some slight issues playing a game. Patience is a virtue, sir. Go play another game for a bit and keep trying back. There are always some unforseen consequences *zing?* when people release huge games like this. It's tough to be proactive and not reactive in these situations.

Just airing my grievances for issues that are age old yet ignored throughout the gaming industry. I mean granted I don't expect Supercool Indy Developer to be able to set up a flawless multiplayer system from the minute a game releases, but when you're a multi-million dollar developer with a multi-billion dollar publisher, I just assume you could make proper investments for something that's going to generate fantastic profits. Doing anything else is just poor business.

I'm not particularly concerned about playing the game specifically, I just despise the idea of not being prepared for something that's happened so many times before. I mean really, it's not like everyone started preordering five minutes before it came out. They undoubtedly had projections and real data showing how many people would be downloading any accessing their servers the minute it came out, but they chose to do things this way.

But yeah, I have probably a dozen other games to be played and it's not a huge concern of mine that I don't get to do this this very second. Like I've said before, no one will even remember in a week, and that's why when the next big multiplayer bonanza comes out, the same thing will happen.

Pardon me for being annoyed by ineptitude... or maybe just ignorance.

Unfortunately the netcode for Bad Company 2 was a forseen consequence that was never really fixed. It's always been a weaker point in the Battlefield series.

The netcode is fine in this game. I've had no problems whatsoever in the beta, and when I was actually able to play the release. The problem is with EA's servers, and the fact that they are getting hammered by demand.

That's what I was thinking. During the Beta of the PS3 and PC, and the PS3 demo....things were just hunky dory. I've not gotten to play it retail yet, but the only thing I can assume are EA's servers. Just FYI for everybody, they aren't DICE's servers.

Got it yesterday and finished the campaign. My god I love this game, it's like Modern Warfare 2 except good.

crashed to desktop twice already (mp only)
hopefully updating my video drivers will help . . .
anyone else have issues with their 8800GT?

8800GS and I've had nothing but bad luck. Crashed to desktop a couple times for me yesterday too and I only got to play for about an hour.

I finished the Singleplayer today. Great fun. It's the characters and their witty dialogue that leave a lasting impression on you. The references that they make to other games made me chuckle throughout the play through. They take a lot of jabs at Call of Duty too. Missions never got stale or repetitive. Lotsa variety in maps. Enemy AI is pretty damn good. They'll chuck grenades into buildings, flank you and wreck havoc to get to you. I could never stay too long at the same spot. I had to keep moving to a new cover spot.

Haven't played much of the multiplayer yet. Star Trek Online is keeping me busy atm. Apart from the beta map, i have only tried Africa Harbor so far. I got disconnected half way through. Everybody else seems to be experiencing the same issue. I Am not too worried about it though. They'll fix it sooner or later. Performance was as good as it was after the beta performance patch. I Am running everything at 1400x900 on high settings expect the shadows and hbao is turned
off. AA and AF are at 8x.

nvidia released new drivers yesterday try those.

wtf why is it that all my European friends gets the game unlocked in about 2 hours, while i get it unlocked in 25 hours???? Makes no sense. I live in Europe, why the hell is mine delayed 1 extra day? My friend that lives about 2 hours away from me is getting it unlocked in 2 hours.

WTFFF?!?!??!?!

My only gripe with the SP thus far is the amount of cutscenes. I'm roughly half way through and this game has already had more cutscenes than all the other games I've played put together. I remember once getting done with a cutscene then literally walking for 15 more seconds until there was another.

I want this game so bad. The only thing keeping me from buying this is how well it runs. I never got a beta key to test the ****er out.

e8400 @ 3.8ghz
4gb ddr2 ram
ati 4850
vista 64bit
1440x900

hows it looking for me dudes?

You'll be fine, I'm close to that, but I have a 4870 and it runs well on high settings. But I do run a pretty modest 1280x1024 though.

Easily on medium/high. I run it on much lower specs than yours and its playable at medium/low settings.
