Official Nintendo E3 conference thread

damn I missed the whole thing cos of net problems :(

I'll watch this and the ubi conference afte sony's

A new 2D Mario side scroller and Golden Sun DS??? That just blew away anything anyone had to say at any conference yet!!

Still pissed that Kid Icarus was not mentioned tho.

New Super Mario Bros Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Really?

But Metroid: Other M looks friggin' badass. What makes it even better is that Team Ninja is developing it.

New Metroid has me half-stock, too bad I'll probably never own a Wii :(

Did anyone else think that the wii motion+ was gona be some form of vibration function the way he was describing it before he revealed it? That's the first thing that entered my head.

I cried for the lack of a Kirby Wii game. I always hope it will happen and it never does :(

Nintendo's got no love for the little guy on the Wii...

Golden Sun, Metroid and SMG2 have me excited. NSMBWii? Is that just a remake of NSMB that was on DS? If so, it's an amazing game, but I have no interest in buying it again, despite being in my top 10 games ever.

Otherwise disappointed.

The level shown is clearly different to NSMB on the DS. I expect the levels will be brand new, just using the old style.

I wasn't disapointed at all.

Super Mario Galaxy 2,
New Super Mario Bros. Wii,
Golden Sun DS,
Metroid: Other M

There's some good looking 3rd party games too:
Red Steel 2,
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicals
Dead Space: Extraction,
Monster Hunter 3

7:05 p.m.: "There are people who think of Zelda more as an RPG with simpler controls, so trying to figure out how to make everybody happy is something that's going to concern me," says Miyamoto.

7:05 p.m.: "Think of Zelda while you're trying some of the archery and sword play in Wii Sports Resort," Miyamoto say.

7:04 p.m.: "We'd like to make it compatible with Wii MotionPlus. It's quite possible it will be playable only with Wii MotionPlus."

7:03 p.m.: Shows new illustration for the next Zelda for Wii. Nothing to show yet, but it shows an adult link. More grown up than ever before.

Also,
7:18 p.m.: Q: Cranky Craig just asked a good question about how Wii Sports Resort has a stamp system. He asked, is this maybe the start of a full-blown achievements system for Wii?

A: "Not, maybe, in the overall sense that you're talking about," replies Miyamoto. It just fit Wii Sports Resort. "I'm not a big fan of using the carrots to motivate people to play. I want people to play because they enjoy playing and want to play more." (Sorry, Bozon.) "The stamps within Wii Sports Resort are more of an impetus to play in different ways and to try and do different things."

Wow, I was pretty impressed with the Metroid trailer. About time they ditched the Prime games' gameplay. I hated part 1 and never bothered with the other 2. Also pretty suprised about the Golden Sun DS game. Looks like my Wii and DS will finally be getting some use this year, or whenever these get released.

I wish Metroid: Other M was coming for the PC or 360. It looks really damn well done, but the graphics on the Wii are really disappointing. I want Crysis3: Metroid. :/

I'm going to be a jerk and say that this new Metroid game has absolutely nothing over the Prime series (at least, 1 and 2). Seriously, the first two games in that series were perhaps some of the greatest examples of how to tell stories in video games, and even more so, how to convey atmosphere.

Completely agreed. I never played the third game, but I've heard many good things about it. Definitely some of my favorite games. Just wish they could pull off a decent multiplayer though.

I agree that the Metroid Prime games broke new ground, but after the third, they were getting a bit stale. After my initial WTF face, I started thinking that this could be exactly what the series needs to stay fresh. With Team Ninja doing it, you know the action is going to be amazing. I just hope they keep some exploration in it, and I'll be on cloud nine. (Also, hi Ducky!)

I'd have to say that they are more like prime examples of how to make really un-fun gameplay. Not only was the control scheme flawed (seriously, you can't even look down when jumping, so you're making blind jumps all the time, and then the stupid lock on....why they couldn't just keep standard FPS dual control stick controls is beyond me), but the whole gameplay part of that game sucked. Scanning everything was just way too stupid, like....really reeaally stupid. It was atmoshperic for me the first hour or two, but after having to backtrack and backtrack and backtrack, all of the scenery gets old, stale, and lame very fast, as does the gameplay.

I honestly felt like I had to complete Metroid Prime just because I paid for it and I wanted my money's worth. I had almost no fun what-so-ever through about 80% of that game.

And this comes from a guy who LOVED all the metroid games before Prime. It seemed to me that the Prime games were a huge step backwards for the series. I guess I just had high expectations for it and it failed in every way to meet them.

I tend to agree. I bought Prime and not only did I not complete the game, but I got rid of my Gamecube because of it.

Woohoo, more Scribblenauts!

It took us a few tries to figure out the best solution as we continued to get eaten over and over, before realizing those same dolphins we used earlier would actually fight the sharks on our behalf. That, or you could just drop a toaster in the water and electrocute them to death.

replay them in an advanced difficulty mode that remembers what objects you used last time and prohibits you from using them again.

Dumb Dude, I can't believe you posted in this thread AGAIN... and AGAIN it's a load of horse shit!

And shame on Virus for agreeing with the idiot! Metroid Prime was ****ing awesome. That's not an opinion, that's fact!

Hey, I said I liked the new Metroid trailer and the Golden Sun DS announcement didn't I?

Also, Virus is awesome for agreeing, he seems like me: he likes good games, not bad ones. I can't see how anyone could have enjoyed Prime.

Heck, I'm willing to assume that if you stripped the game of anything Metroid (but kept levels, bosses, etc.. the same) and renamed it to something generic like "Space Explorer: Unknown Territory", no one would have liked the game.

Let's not get carried away. I agreed that the lock-on aim was shit, the endless backtracking was a bore and a chore and the scanning was tiresome, but it was still a great game. I just didn't like it enough to play it; it's not my kind of game. I wanted to be able to aim with a mouse, or at least an analog stick.

Previous 2D Metroid games are some of my favorite classics. And the same goes for Castlevania series - it just didn't turn out well in underpowered 3D hardware (N64).

Come on, you named the negatives of this game that far outweigh anything good it possibly had going for it and still call it a great game? I guess I was wrong about you. :(

Anyway, I'll stop my bashing since it's obvious thats all I've been doing since page 1. I'm quite sure everyone's had enough of it. :p

It's a great game if you don't mind the negatives, but we do.
