Official Nintendo E3 conference thread

The lock on aim was amazing! It made the combat less twitch based and more about taking advantage of your surroundings and equipment.

The backtracking was present in all of the other metroids, and is essential to the joy of finding something new in a familiar place.

And the scanning was incredibly atmospheric - every new object fleshed out the story.

Honestly, most of the reasons people throw out that Prime was bad are essential to why it's so amazing!

The backtracking works in the 2D games because it wasn't so darn SLOW. I hated the movement speed in Prime. If Samus moved just a tiny bit faster it wouldn't have been a problem. But no, instead it feels like real life walking everywhere which doesn't translate into a fun game. Imagine Oblivion if there were no horses or fast travel and then imagine that you have to do those travels 100 times over and thats what Prime is.

I won't even go into the lock on or scanning, because that's unjustifiable by any means. The scanning was just a way to make the traveling less lame by "discovering new information" along the way. The other Metroid games had a very awesome and subtle way of storytelling without words, you almost could assume your own stories about the environment.

Bah, I swear, this is my last post about it. So sorry.

I tend to agree. I bought Prime and not only did I not complete the game, but it was one of the reasons I got rid of my wii because of it.

My own personal experiences to agree with virus and dumb dude.

Hmm, I was describing the [first?] Metroid that came out for Gamecube. Sorry, I couldn't remember the title and must have mislabeled it as 'Prime'.

I've never owned a Wii nor played a Metroid for it. However, I watched the demo Kiosk of someone playing it and I was appalled at the control scheme.

The first Metroid Gamcube game was Metroid: Prime. We are talking about the same game. No mistake, friend. Part 2 also came out for the GC but part 3 was for the Wii. I've only ever played the first.

Looks like nintendo is going to sell more different colored wiis. Also, DAMN IT JAPAN!! I WANT AWESOME PACKAGES LIKE THESE!!

This thread confuses me. :(

Ugh, Super Mario Galaxy 2 looks so amazing that its disgusting.

I think the Wii Final Fantasy actually looks more exciting than Final Fantasy XIII. It seems to try new things whereas FFXIII is strictly rehash with slick graphics. Zzzzzzz.

I thought so too, until I heard that the demo shown at E3 was only rail shooting. A little mix of movement would be nice...

I think Metroid has always been a little bit of action as well as adventure, but because we are teaming up with Team Ninja, I do think that they will bring things to the table that we haven't been able to do in the past. But again, a huge part of Metroid is the adventure aspect and we do want to stay true to that as well.

I just blew my load to Golden Sun 3. Couldn't have asked for a better pre-birthday present.
I spent so much time playing the first two back in my younger years (7-10 years old), and I can't wait to invest all my time in this one. :3

Also, I'm quite skeptical about NSMBWii and Metroid: Other M, but only because 1) NSMBWii with 4-player co-op does not make sense to me for a Mario game, and 2) Other M is being developed in a way that is foreign to me, seeing as the series is originally and best presented and played as a 2D platformer. I trust Team Ninja will do the series justice, and sex up Samus quite a bit (:naughty:), but the game just really isn't my action and acrobatics as much as the trailer seemed to show. I still can't wait for it, I'm sure it'll be great.
