I saw it.

Again the more I see of the new consoles, the more I say the large gaps the consoles had on pcs, upon their release will be much smaller this time around.

Possesion looks like a crappy PC game from 2002(with better building models)

To say that the entire show was a debacle would be an understatement.

I got the feeling though that they were trying to..well, "avoid" showing too much footage of PD0. Not in the "we don't wanna spoil too much" sense, but the "this game aint even close to being done and it looks like pants" sense. They tried not to inger too much on the footage, and just when you are about to get a good look at the graphics, they quickly cut to some shitty celebrity with some retarded look on their face.

Thoughts on the vids shown on mtv.com:

Gears of War = Second best, really awesome sequence at the end with the giant monster bursting out the wall.

Call of Duty 2: Whoever allowed this footage to be castrated. I kid you not when I say it was running at around 10 frames a second. embarrassing.

Ghost recon = Alright, nice effects.

NBA2k6 = Hands down the best footage shown....but I'm guessing it's pre-rendered because it just looks unbelievably, insanely good. The motion on Lebrons Jersey alone is just jaw dropping. Defenatly next generation.

Everything else = Meh.

Gears Of War is impresive indeed
" This third-person shooter will be available on the Xbox 360 and the PC. We were told by Peter Moore that Gears of War is currently running at 80% of the visual bar that Epic believes it can achieve on 360. It will also include online play, and should be available after the holiday season. Stick with IGN for more information on this game next week at E3. "

Honestly, the marketing dipshit that thought up the name "Xbox360" ought to be fired right away. I mean, what does 360 imply? You've turned a full circle, and you're back at square one? The Xbox 1 turned a full circle and is now all new but completely the same? Is that what you want to tell your customers? Besides, it pronounces like shit, with that meaningless "360" addon.

360 degrees = One revolution. It implies that the Xbox360 is a gaming revolution.

Or, it it just sounds more than "2".

I think they named it 360 because playstation has its playstation 3 and if you would call the next xbox; xbox2 it will look like the playstation3 is better and thats what microsoft was/is afraid of...

Xbox 360 doesn't sound like a bad name, but it sounds like a snowboarding trick.
Clever idea behind the revolution idea. Does anybody know how much the Xbox 360 will cost?

I kinda wish they woulda called it X^2 , but then you've already got the Nintendo GameCUBE... I guess the name Xbox 360 is just something that'll have to grow on you. I know that it'll be a kick ass system though, so that all that really matters.

man that sucked AND blowed. the show was too ovrehyped, and with too many commercials and too little content. the system looks awesome, but the show didnt show enough games. *sigh* i guess ill wait till E3 to make y final assesment ;(

Indeed, one revolution, ending up at the same direction once again, 180 would have been better then, 'taking things to another direction'. Besides, the 'revolution' thing only works in the english language. Bad name.

The whole marketing is a bid odd, especially that video, I mean, do you really think the people who watch MTV care about the hardware of the thing? Or have any clue what that mumbo jumbo means? You see some people in some sweatshop fooling around with the motherboard, then you see a typical game developer nerd, in a messy office with debug code scrolling on his screen. After that, you hear that it has 48 pixel pipe lines, 512 MB RAM and 3 CPU cores, then you see some people chalking on whiteboards.

Do the people who need the be appealed by such ads really give a crap about that? It's nearly not 'flashy' enough. Now, I don't mind, I hate those 'cool' ads, but apparently that kind of marketing works. I wouldn't be appealed at all by that add if I knew nothing of the Xbox 360 and wasn't a hardcore gamer, where are the games? I didn't see any games, did I? I saw some talk about hardware gibberish '512 pixel ram cpu' and the people that worked on it and someone with a bunny mask. Very interesting..
What can it actually DO?

(although I assume the video was followed up by game trailers, right?)

A two line post, and you ignored 50% of it ;)

And PvtRyan, it's a play on words. When I say it's a gaming revolution, I don't mean that they take a game in a DVD box, and spin it 360 degrees. Ever heard of political revolutions? No-one seems to be questioning the use of the word in that context...

Let's not forget that Nintendo are using the codename "Revolution" for it's next-gen console as well.

do you really expect the first games to emidiatly use up the full power of the xbox360? if so then your nuts. it will take years before developers will be able to do that, it takes years to learn how far you can push this box. Expect real nice looking sjit to bubble up in 2/3 years

anyway, the dutch version of the show was this

intro with some stars (don't care about that)
the killers (can hear that everyday, don't care)
snow patrol (can hear that everyday, don't care)
commercial with dudes talking about this rumor xbox blah blah and some dev thing on how the box is a multimedia thingy. (ehm ok)
lady walks up to stage and takes the xbox out of a bag, places it on the platform thingy, presses the button, fancy lighting (aww how cute)
snow patrol (can hear that everyday, don't care)
the killers (can hear that everyday, don't care)
the killers (can hear that everyday, don't care)
the show ends.
comercial with dudes blabbing about xbox and next gen gaming and custom this and that followed about a short interview with a gamedev from rare, about perfect dark and how ****ing neat it wil be blah blah blah.

leaving me with my mouth open thinking (WAS THIS IT? SOME MUSIC SHIZZ and FRODO blabbing about NOTHING! - k, the lady bringing the box was kinda hot - BUT C'MON!!)

that was everything, the most info I got from the xbox where from the 2 short video's in the comercial brakes in the middle and after the whole show

I wasted 30 minutes watching that, with thinking every music thing, oeh we'l see some cool gaming footage next and me looking at our big clock hanging on the wall

And on Ghost Recon 3, it looks horrid. They've turned it into what, some bullshit cyber soldier crap? What the hell is with the huge HUD and futuristic weaponry? Looks like grade-A stupid to me.
A lot of the technology on show in the GR3 video could potentially be used by soldiers in the not-too-distant future. It seems to be based on technology that is actually either currently being researched or in a prototype state. I'm talking about stuff that might be ready by the end of this decade or the next. I don't have much information about the game from which to speculate... but, from what I have seen, that would be my guess. I highly doubt they're going all 25th century or anything like that.

saw it this mo, it was being repeated, i presume it was the whole thing even if i got the last 15 minutes, wtf was it about, snow patrol song, ad, another sp song, interviews with the bands, then more killers songs, i didnt even see the bloody thing, complete joke.
