...oh boy...kid gets endorsment deal because GH3

it took you 2,196 posts to realize that? I realized it in my first 10.

Boring people rewarding somebody playing a boring game.

EDIT: Boring people even WATCHING a boring game. Wow...

This thread is boring. You're boring.

You guys are just negative nancies. There I said it.

Do you guys not understand just how immensely difficult that is? The kind of physical and mental dexterity needed to do that?

yeah like nascar. Good lord I bet there's nascar fans amongst us as well.

Hey check out what I did with your statement there. Wanna tell me how a video game endorsement affects even one struggling musician? I mean besides the impotent rage.
I never said it affected them, did I? I was making the simple observation that most people (atleast where that kid comes from) are retards.

Endorsements? For a gamer? What's next, tournaments?!

Also, I'm not about to say I find watching someone play Guitar Hero enthralling or anything, but entertainment is subjective. See: 95% of popular musicians on TV/radio.
Yes, you could argue that entertainment is subjective, but what would YOU rather watch - Some super fast fingers guy playing a bunch of predetermined notes on a plastic toy perfectly, or watch some shitty musician completely bomb a gig.

Even the shittiest of real music is more entertaining than the best of fake music.

You know, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the people complaining about real musicians missing out were the same people you find endlessly trolling Guitar Hero threads with "but it's not real music!"
I really really want to see this (seriously no sarcasm, I actually want to see these people argue this).

yet, it can never get him a girlfriend

also guys....guitar hero skills do not equal real talent on a guitar.....stop comparing them!

You will find you love an individual who can manipulate your nipples and genitalia with such skill and dexterity.

How is this pathetic? How is this any different than being good at Counter-Strike?

And what does this even have to do with any musicians? Or is that because you heard someone say "just because you're good at GH doesn't mean you're good with real guitars" and you decided to jump on the bandwagon and recite that on every goddamn thing that has to do with GH? Talking about pathetic.

This thread is the perfect time and place for a "This is why we can't have nice things" macro.

But that would be a nice thing, so I'm not going to post it.

Meh, I've nothing against competitive gaming and gaming for fame and money, in fact I find it entertaining to watch matches from the big fighting game tourneys. I just don't think it works the same with a game like GH, where a player is just repeating the same patterns over and over again until they get it down perfectly; there's no varying of strategy, no adaptation to an opponent's technique, nothing.

It really is just like watching a power metal guitarist wank his way through a solo, but less skilful. Kind of like watching someone try to break an obscure world record, like the amount of baked beans they can fit under their foreskin or something. Difficult, might even take a lot of practice and talent, but not deserving of much attention and their efforts would be better spent elsewhere, except that the media have somehow conflated the whole 'rockstar' flavour of the game with actual rockstardom.

I love how people are raging on this, bringing in real musicians for a half brained argument, and then just raging some more.

Seriously guys, quit being jealous.

It seems to be that people are having trouble understanding the seriousness of e-sport to some.

It is getting bigger, and I hope eventually, more accepted

It would be nice if E-Sports kicked off in this country. It's obviously do-able, look at Korea with just a SINGLE game...

NO U.

Sorry, I don't get that impression at all from your statement. Saying "there are struggling musicians out there and they're giving this guy money and exposure!" isn't really the same as "those people are stupid for liking this!" If you didn't want to draw a comparison between Guitar Hero and real music, then... just don't.

Yes, you could argue that entertainment is subjective, but what would YOU rather watch - Some super fast fingers guy playing a bunch of predetermined notes on a plastic toy perfectly, or watch some shitty musician completely bomb a gig.

True, I already said as much in my post. But people find all kinds of stupid shit entertaining. I doubt people are going to queue up to see this guy play more than once, but you never know (besides which they're probably paying him more for promotional work than just "gigs").

I really really want to see this (seriously no sarcasm, I actually want to see these people argue this).
That Guitar Hero isn't real music? They have and they do. And they're right, only problem being the people playing it never stated otherwise and generally DON'T ****ING CARE. We've heard it a thousand times before and we're still playing and enjoying it (well, actually I got bored, but some people probably are).

I actually agree with this, it seems like a really poor spectator (e)sport. Games like Starcraft and Counter-Strike can be entertaining to watch for people who understand the games and can appreciate the thought and skill being put into them, but Guitar Hero is always going to be mindless dexterity. Well, maybe not mindless, but it's not like they can add their own flair to it.

Vaginoose?

I agree with everything Bad^Hat said. Pretty much took the words out of my mouth, and put them into a larger post with multi-quotes.
