OK, I am officially frustrated, help would be appreciated.

The final battle is hard enough. My advice is first to run over the hunter with your car-it should work if you use the turbo. Then the Strider,1V1,easy indeed.

So I am a casual gamer, I do not live on my PC and have been enthralled with the Half Life series until something, somewhere went terribly wrong.

I found Episode 1 very frustrating with the level in the dark that was just incredibly dumb. I hated Doom 3 and found this annoying, glad they fixed it for some of us that are not that good on FPS.

Then finally episode 2 comes out, and not only do we get the annoying car back, but Alyx is with us the whole way and the final battle is just way to hard, even on easy.

Have played it about 100 times and still cannot finish the fight. Run out of ammo, too many styders, cannot run while holding the gravity gun which makes no sense at all.

Now, to those that find it easy, I am glad, good for you, some of us are not that fortunate.

I have had all I can of it, and am not even interested in finishing it and doubt I will buy 3 because it seems they built that level with one setting in mind and whoever tests these games are obviously experts.

Whoever they have designing the newest levels of Half Life needs to be fired. The story is progressing, somewhat, but they have gone away from the puzzle solving intriguing game that was HL2 and turned it into a mindless run and gun shooter.

I would appreciate help, but will probably end up more frustrated than I am.

Now this is not intended to be a flame war, and to those that find it easy, I applaud you, but this is meant for the few who share my feelings, or are genuinely interested in helping.

I thought Episode 2 was the best Half Life game yet. It's not hard. I'm not a die hard player or anything. Alyx being with you is one of the best elements of Episode 1 and 2. Maybe you'd have more fun playing a game like Timshift or something.

End Battle (Spoiler)

I'm a seasoned Half-Life player, I too found the battle at the end pretty darned hard, took a few tries, but I finally beat it. Now I look forward to it. The thing is, I see a lot of posts as to how "easy" battles are, like they are super human brilliant gamers or something. I'll tell you, I don't buy their claims, total BS, puffed up kids who think they are something special and you are a blundering idiot, that's all that is about. I would love to look over the shoulder of some of these people who make these claims. I will never EVER turn on any cheats or GOD MODE of any kind to win at a game, that would just spoil all the fun, I always do it the hard way, just figure it out. I'm here to tell you the end battle is HARD, but a hell of a lot of fun too.

Some tips:
*Don't forget to power up and Ammo up when you grab another Magnusson Bomb. Look for Dark Matter ammo for the Pulse Rifle.
*Use the secondary fire in the Pulse Rifle to vaporize a few Hunters.
*Keep moving about as rapid as you can, makes you a hard target to hit.
*Mow down as many hunters as you can with the car.
*Remaining hunters can be taken out with logs and the Grav Gun, wait until they fire Fletches into the log, listen for the whistling timer and fire the log back at the Hunter at the precise detonation point of the Fletches, it will disolve the Hunter.
*All Hunters must be cleared out before you can fire a Magnusson Bomb at the Strider. Use the pistol or the machine gun to detonate the bomb.

Working up your speed at this is crucial, but take breaks to recoup, it will make it easier when you resume.

Dont feel bad rangerixxi, as a casual gamer these challenges are pretty damn tough. Just work at it.

Not necessarily. When dealing with the "fast" Striders who try to destroy Buildings (the ones who walk in a crouch), I found it easier to simply ignore the Hunters - they can't keep up with the Strider, and you should just have enough time to use the Magnusson Device.

Believe me, if you try that battle the first time, it's pretty big possibility to lose. You will learn from each try a little. At first, I ignored the Hunters, and hitted Striders directly. After few tries, I started mowing down Hunters, being revengeful and eventually started killing the Striders. I usually camped for them in the last wave but then got adventuring, that I could get the Hunters down. Never used a log. Only um... AR2 and pistol. And of course, Magnusson's Strider-b-gone. The winning joy wasn't long enough. If you played EP2 to the end, you know what I mean.

You don't need to take out the Hunters to place a Buster on a Strider. You can still take them down when there's Hunters around.

But it's nearly impossible. I tried.
/me didn't know I was spose to run over hunters with car and instead got pissed and used godmode! woo!

Do the Hunters shoot off the device somehow that it doesn't explode and the Strider is safe? Explaino.

The Hunters shoot the device off of the Strider. It falls to the ground and detonates unsuccessfully (meaning you have to run and get another one).

You CAN attach a Magnusson with Hunters about if they are out of range of the Strider, but that doesn't happen often. The 'fast' Striders are the only ones who really outrun their escort.

Well I'm a casual gamer too I just don't have the time these days and I know where you're coming from I have spent some time tearing out my hair on occasions although not with this one. It comes down to experiance I guess. I'm such a big HL fan I've played these games more than anything else in the last few years and I guess I'm not quite as much as a newb as I used to be. The White Forest battle I didn't find hard at all especially as you can run down the Hunters with the car. I can manage it without much difficulty on Normal mode the only time I had any trouble was when I had two Striders coming at me at once, trying to take out one while the other was blowing the crap out of me was the only time I died. Personally I found the battle in the missile silo tougher. The hardest part of any HL game so far has been taking out the Striders near the end of HL2 before you head for the horse especially as you have limited cover as you run to pick up more rockets. Thats tough. That and dealing with the gunships before you enter Nova Prospekt. For me Ep2 has been a breeze by comparison but I guess I'm very familiar with Source engine games by now.

it's was easy for me up until the point where a strider got really close to the base, the hunters shooting the crap outta me and me missing every shot at trying to hurl the strider busters at the strider. Eventually i got him, but it was hard for that moment.

The fight just took a little getting used to, my first try on normal i got owned pretty quickly, I think i beat it my third try (only retried because i wanted to save all the buildings). Then on hard i got it my first try, but had to retry once more to save all the buildings, hardest part was timing it right, when thoose striders are on a mission to blow a building they can move!!!

It made things easier when the fight gets tenser at the end and u stop trying to run down the damn hunters, get out of the car, and fight them old-school style. Then again, u lose health pretty quickly after that but it makes the fight more enjoyable~

Once you learn the correct stratagy, the real challenge becomes getting the 'Neighbourhood Watch' achievement. I can take 'em all down pretty fast, it's stopping them blowing up buildings that is the problem...

It is a hard battle. I played through it on Normal and, being a compulsive quicksaver, saved with every strider or pack of hunters I downed, and whenver I got health or ammo...it was tough, especially when the 2 striders close in at the end. But I made it.

Also, it was really cinematic. I killed the last Strider just as he was about to charge his shot into the silo.

I can detonate a Buster with two hunters around, but I think more than that, it will be impossible for the Buster to stick on the the strider.

I get it :p
It is hard when a strider moving crazy fast to the sawmill.

When you're directly under the strider, it's possible to attach a buster to it and detonate the thing even when there are three hunters.

The big problem is how they can sucessfully shoot the device in mid-air, so you have to use the strategy explained above (especially for the acheivement)

I probably died 20 times during that battle...

Didn't have enough RAM so the game was stuttering to an unplayable state, I was playing on Hard, and it took five minutes between each death for my computer to load up again.

I didn't enjoy that part of the game along with the Gman secenes. due to stuttering.

Once I got my RAM, the last battle was easy. I almost never play on anything but hard, so to me hard is medium difficulty

I'm one of those that found it easy. Way to easy! It's a bit more of a challenge on HARD but the technique I used was the same as MEDIUM - Always make sure you have a Magnusson device on the back of the car. Then head of to the Striders. Take out the 2 or 3 Hunters first. easiest way is to drive into them! They occassionaly dodge out of the way but more often than not they just stand there. If they dogde, handbrake around & go at them again. Once they're dealt with approach the Strider from the rear. Stop just behind them, jump out of the car & grab the Magnusson on the back with the gravity gun. At close range it's easy to land one on the unsuspecting Strider. Switch to gun & FIRE!! Strider down. Repeat Ad in finitum (Yawn) until all Striders dealth with comfortably.

I remember when I was a kid and got Freespace 2 for the first time. The stutter was horrendous, but I'd use it as a sort of awesome Bullet Time and shoot down Shivan fighters like they were dead rats*.

Then Freespace OSP gave it higher textures and my new rig which could handle Freespace like a dream beforehand... ah, nostalgia.

*Dead rats... you know... flying through space.
