I have a very basic grasp of what it is that I'm talking about, but...
How is the computer found at this link going to serve me?

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10058292&catid=

What if I were to add some ram, another cpu(can I do that?), and another graphics card(can I do that aswell?) Please have some patience, I'm pretty ignorant. IGP, that's not an integrated GFX card is it? I don't believe it is, but again, I'm not completely sure what I'm talking about. You guys seem pretty intelligent, so maybe you can tell me how things would go with this PC. If I'm not as stupid as I think that I might be, then this should work fine out of the box for me too play HL2, as long as I turned the settings down, right? If I upgrade will I be able to play games in the future? I'm trying not too looked too stupid, but this is a pretty upgradable machine, right? It'd be nice if someone could tell me how it'll run, and how exactly I would go about upgrading it..?

I think I'm gunna hit the hay.. Hopefully someone can find it in their heart of hearts to help me out.

well dude for a start this in the wrong forum.

The graphics card is a little weak, and it could use more ram. I have no idea about price comparision as I live in the UK were everything is expensive :)

You can only add another CPU if the motherboard supports it, which it probably doesn't, and the same goes for the graphics cards. The card isn't integrated, but it's pretty pathetic. You should be able to play HL2 on low settings though (not sure). If you change the card and add an extra 512MB stick of RAM you should be able to play games in the future, but if you want to upgrade you're much better off building the PC yourself.

Noooooo, do NOT get an emachine. I've heard many bad things about them from people and from the computer guy at circuit city since I was planning on getting one but instead built my own (Check sig). Get a different brand if anything.

Don't buy computers from FutureShop, period. Where are you from?

you can build one yourself. the people here are more than willing to help you navigate some of the trickiness involved. Pick the parts you think you want and post your suggestion. People will respond. The only fully made computer I will ever buy is a laptop because i can't build one myself.

lol dont buy prebuilt comp. unless u know the excact parts in there prebuilt is to overpriced and that comp. ur suppsibly buying only has 2 pci and 1 pcix16 so u dont have much room to add on anything

Emachines arn't bad, though not made for gaming.
I took one for 500 and upgraded it and it's not bad now. The best thing is that you can get into it without a screwdriver or anything. So easy to modify things in it.

The computer isn't bad at all, the only real bad thing is the Gfx Card. Though since you probably are to inexperinced to build your own computer, I'd just buy that comp, get a better gfx card, and 512megs of more ram.(Or just go find a computer that comes with that).

Erm, buddy, he has plenty of room to add stuff. I don't think he'll be needing more than one gfx card atm, and two pci slots is enough for an add on raid controller and a sound card. Plenty of space.

But yeah, I say build your own. Loadsa fun, and it's nice to be able to sit there in the middle of a match, ask your friend "what kinda fps you getting", then laugh at whatever miniscule number he said and just stare at your pc like an evil genius.

Building your own pc is way ****ing cheaper too. I built, what I consider to be a very good gaming pc (just my word) for only 1200 USD. I'll assume you won't need all high end parts, so you should come out with a smaller hole in your wallet than the one Dell would have shot. Plus, it's really good knowing your way around a computer, and when something goes wrong, you can know what's going wrong (most of the time).

Give it a go. All you need is some cash, a free day, and this forum. There's an EXCELLENT guide stickied here, about how to build a pc. That's all you need. Hell, I ended up barely even reading that. And what am I, thirteen? I finished it all on my own (cue pullups add). I imagine a grown man like yourself (maybe not) could do this on your own.

My PC can probably surpass some Alienware PCs and since I got the ASUS Vento 3600 Case it looks like an Alienware. The cooling for the case was ok, but once I screwed a fan on the front that case was pretty cool. Doesn't matter much now since I have water cooling though.

yea he dose have enough room but cooling might be a problem since its a matx motherboard and those cases only have one 120mm cooling fan

Wow, didn't expect this many replies, but it's appreciated. Good information. I guess I could make my own, I have a pretty basic understanding of these things, but I have friends willing to help, and this forum too.

Everyone seems too be telling me that a self-built pc is the way to go. Is there any exception too this? Are there any nice pre-builts that are worth the money?

There are no pre-builts you can get that would be cheaper and as good as one you built yourself. If you want, list your budget and I can come up with a nice gaming system for you just to show you what you can get.

there are some good prebuilt comp. like aleinware and all that but there all overpriced its alot cheaper to build ur own and if u know nothing about building just get someone to do it for u

Assuming you're American, I suppose the budgets would be around about $1200 USD.

yea thanks for noticing im american and no prob. a good prebuild gaming computer will cost around 2000usd but it depends on what u want but still building ur own is cheaper

Build the comp, we'll step you through it. You'll save hundreds, possibly a thousand us dollars over cutting edge prebuilts.

give us ur budget on how much u want to spend on building if u choose to im guessing u will spend the same amount as the emachine

Cheap is good, but I think I could pay up to about $1200 USD. I would upgrade it later.

Well the advantage of a selfbuild, is you get exactly what you want. No need to compromise and it's cheaper.

Also PC's aren't hard to build (Put MB in case, and everything slots into that)

however, the flipside is of course you have to build it. And if parts go wrong you have bit more of a paper trail to follow.

So no real disadvantage to building it yourself. If you're worried about components, just ask around here, everyones got a slightly different idea on what's an ultimate PC. Me I went for upgradeablity (Socket 939 and PCIe) decent spec and a funky case :)

For $1000 you can build a near top of the line comp, what are your preferences graphic/chip/capabilities, etc-wise?

You guys are the ones with the knowledge. It's whatever you tell me is good. Though I think I can judge somewhat by myself.
