Dude can u all please stop talking about this game called Race-X if your going to then do so in another thread this thread is about the best game ever made Opposing Force, Half Life sucked dearly compared to Opposing Force in my opinion.
Gordan < Adrian Shepard
Okay, thats the truth dont deny it.
Adrian is a god in the hands on the half life and whatnot series, he will be returning as I've just found out due to a leak in the half life dev team. Adrian Shepard is coming back *sigh* Thank god. Everyones true favourite character is comin to kick some gludious maximus

Race-X and Adrian Shephard sucked the big one. Also, please do not speak bull.

I felt like posting this.

Your beard is canon.

Thanks for pointing that out Captain Obvious!

no you suck, Shepard is the best and hes comin back and Gordan dies at one point in the series *spoiler* HAH

At least I don't have an eye problem like you: "Hey guys, that guy is G-Man". Stop with the Opposing Force crap.

It is an excellent time for a quote from Rimfire quote.

At least I don't have an eye problem like you: "Hey guys, that guy is G-Man". Stop with the Opposing Force crap.

So you choose to insult users (especially with higher post counts) rather than have a debate, although I perfer to not discuss Shephard anymore.

1a: Race X isn't a game.
1b: Race X sucked.

2a: Opposing Force is not a mod.
2b: Although Opfor was a good enough game, it had some seriously stupid shit in it. Stupid, unnecessary or continuity-breaking weapons, illogical or re-hashed enemies and a crappy end boss. It did, however have very nice level design and it was nice to fight alongside marines. And the whole idea of viewing things from a different viewpoint was very good and pretty well executed.

3a: KaMaKaZi-BLiTz's mustache is a mustashe, so don't call it a beard.
3b: KaMaKaZi-BLiTz's mustache rocks.

4a: Shepard sucks.
4b: I wish I had a mustache or a beard.

XY 'sucks/sucked' is such a well thought out and valid argument.

Bravo to one and all!

"Illogical, re-hashed and continuity-breaking" is not enough? Alright, on top of that they were dull.

The fact that hating opposing force makes you look cool is pretty incredible on this website.

If there would have been no new enemies, as always everyone would have complained and so on.

Of course. It was a 'back in the day' thing, right? Expansions were supposed to have new enemies and weapons back then. Now it's just mundane, but it made sense back then.

Also, I don't hate Opposing force and I don't think anyone else does either. It had really great level design and was pretty damn fun. Sadly, Race-X, most of the new weapons and that shit-fest of a final boss really let it down.

Personally I'll enjoy playing OF co-op on Sven 3.5

That only if it ever gets done :hmph:

I think if they would've had a better name, the whole concept would be more accepted.

Yeah, Opposing force did infact have good level design.

They never followed the cabal design process like Valve to build their levels, which makes me a sad person. Blue Shift and Decay are more acceptable at level design.

The sad truth is, Valve used Opposing Force to get rid of Black Mesa.

Note: Gearbox was new to Gold Source engine back in 99.

Decay? My stand out memory of Decay is running through a generic sewer area. :|

(I did enjoy decay :P)

For an addon, Decay has some great (and hard) levels. Blue Shift was like...a warehouse world, except Xen levels.

I remember some of the maze-like sewer scenes from Decay, where we have to shoot lots of soldiers.

Blue Shift and Decay > OpFor.
Liek Samon said, OpFor had the potential. But the thing is, you didn't butcher scientists. You didn't see it from the otehrs side perpesctive. It was just a rehash of HL1 but with shitty weapons, shitty enemies and a shitty story. Simple. (I liked the MG42 though)

I don't like critizing a video game with today's standarts. Back in 99, Opposing Force was a big hit in the game industry. Like many other millions, I've enjoyed playing Opposing Force.

As for Adrian's role in the universe...cooperating with civilians was an important choice for the gameplay. It's just not right to blame Gearbox for everything, most of the ideas belong to Valve.

"Oh no, you're one of... them.

+USE

I will follow you."

:hmph:

"I have a better idea, you walk in front of me, with your back facing my shotgun. Or, we could do some yoga exercise, kneel down, bend your head slightly forwards, put your hands behind your back and try to think of something nice. This position is called 'The russian traitor'."

Another thing I disliked about Opposing Force was that Gearbox "tidied up" the Marines - suddently they were nice guys that just got in there by accident and wanted to escape.

Randy Pitchfork, the leader guy at Gearbox, wrote the story. That about sums it up.

That's a good point, I mean apart from the odd mentioning of trying to get Freeman, and the roughing up of that one scientist I was very disappointed. I wanted labcoat carnage!

I LOVED OPFOR!

The game play was just superb, playing as a marine alongside marines is still something that gets me excited. The intro of the game is also my favorite HL intro.

The op4 grunts were the most entertaining npcs in the HL1 world, speech-side.

After Otis, of course.

"Current situation is looking pretty grim!"
"Uh, roger that."
"Squad, quiet down!
*Two second pause*

"Have you seen any other soldiers from my platoon?"
"Man, if make it out of here, I'm gonna buy you all a round of beers... Hell, I'll buy the whole damn bar!"
"Uh, roger that."

*use key*

"LET'S GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!"

Well these were the normal idle lines.

The scripted ones were pretty cool.

The scripted lines such as

"Shephard! man am I glad to see you! Let's get out of here!
...current situation is looking pretty grim!"
