Orange box $44.95 +TAX

It works out about £26 when you add the tax. Yep, it totally isa bargain.

From my reciept:

Code:
Product Cost
-----------------------------------------------
The Orange Box $ 44.95
Tax (United Kingdom) $ 7.87
-----------------------------------------------
Total $ 52.82

The tax being charged is VAT. Its charged at the standard UK rate of 17.5%. This gets applied to all purchases made over steam, unfortunately it isn't worded very well on the site. It would be nice if steam could display prices in the local currency with all relevant taxes applied.

I could swear I didn't pay VAT last year when I purchased HL2/EP1... it seems Valve has gotten wise. Shame!

So it's going to be cheaper to buy Orange Box at Retail in the UK? That's a turn around from the 100% markup for Episode One.

Possibly yes. The price of steam is around £26 at the current exchange rate. According to Amazon the the retail price is going to be £34.99, however they are selling it for £24.98. I don't know what price it's going to end up on the high street. At most you will only save a couple of quid by not using steam.

But you get a superfluous Box. I wouldn't pay more for a box, but if it comes with one for less, and I don't care about TF2 beta...

£26 is a bargain! I paid £15 for ep1 retail last year. For £26 your getting 5 games and I'm gonna sell the HL2/EP1 series keys on eBay anyway so it'll work out even cheaper! :D

I didnt pay any tax if i remember.. Maybe because im in the US?

Well technically you are importing the product, yoou don't pay tax in the store, but i believe the store pay tax to import it.

I won't be buying the US version in the UK. The games industry doesn't work like that.

And? Until Gordan Brown says it's illegal for me to sell my own property (and yes it is my property I have paid for it I don't care what rules Valve make up!) then I'll do as I wish! End of story.

And Valve will disable your account.

yay for Kuwait

Everyone I've spoken to outside both the steam forums and here agree with me, that its my property that I have piad for and i can do what i like with it. I'm not arguing with you I can't be arsed.

True it is your property, but you did agree to the STEAM™ SUBSCRIBER AGREEMENT.

I doubt they actually enforce it but if anything goes wrong at least they can say, "We told you so".

You're forgetting, just like you might have some law that makes the agreement void, Valve is not required by law to have you as a customer either.

so even though you legally can sell your games, valve can still disable your account.

Everyone on the Steam forums say its not my property, I don't understand that?? How many of us actually read all those agreements while installing a game?? Instead of just clicking next, next, next, till your playing....

But thats highly unlikely someone will buy them then turn around and report you because then they wouldn't be able to use the codes they'd bought.

I understand what all of you are saying, but I highly doubt anything will happen. I spose I should sell my old hard copies of HL2/EP1, ask valve to reset the keys first, instead of selling the new codes from the orange box on they're own.

While this is of course true, it still doesn't negate the fact that you agreed to it. (Which is sort of scary if you think about it. I mean, technically speaking that License Agreement from Microsoft I agreed on could have said it gives Microsoft the legal right to harvest my organs whenever they choose to.)

So thats why Sony are trying are trying to cut off my legs after agreeing to the Warhawk agreement?? lol

Licence Agreements can't make you do anything which is illegal in your home country. Mind you, Steam servers are Seattle-based, so I'm not sure how that works for account disabling.

I was exaggerating for comedic purposes.

You misunderstand. What I'm saying is that I don't think Valve are going to bother enforcing this. I think that they are worried that people trying to sell the CD-Keys might get ripped off by the person buying them (or vice versa) in which case they can say, "Bad luck" and have a excuse to ban people.

That doesn't really matter, as i said companies are not required by law to keep their customers, they can at any time say they don't want the person as a customer, as long as this reason is not based on discrimation, which it pretty much can't over the internet regardless.

But yeha they might not find out at all, but atleast i know that with Blizzard they had a pretty keen eye on ebay for people selling stuff like that.

Ah, yes, but I used your deliberate exaggeration to highlight an important (and serious) point!

Sorry for using you like that man. ;(

I want a seperation!

Oh baby why do you have to be like that.

It wasn't like this earlier! Before you knew how to please me, knew how to spell separation!

What happened, baby? :hmph:
