Product Cost
-----------------------------------------------
The Orange Box $ 44.95
Tax (United Kingdom) $ 7.87
-----------------------------------------------
Total $ 52.82
So it's going to be cheaper to buy Orange Box at Retail in the UK? That's a turn around from the 100% markup for Episode One.
But you get a superfluous Box. I wouldn't pay more for a box, but if it comes with one for less, and I don't care about TF2 beta...Possibly yes. The price of steam is around £26 at the current exchange rate. According to Amazon the the retail price is going to be £34.99, however they are selling it for £24.98. I don't know what price it's going to end up on the high street. At most you will only save a couple of quid by not using steam.
US =big tax..

It's against Steam Subscriber Agreement to sell the HL2/Ep1 keys. That would result in a disabled Steam account.

See bottom of "Giving Orange Box Gifts".
I won't be buying the US version in the UK. The games industry doesn't work like that.Well technically you are importing the product, yoou don't pay tax in the store, but i believe the store pay tax to import it.

And? Until Gordan Brown says it's illegal for me to sell my own property (and yes it is my property I have paid for it I don't care what rules Valve make up!) then I'll do as I wish! End of story.
And Valve will disable your account.
Everyone I've spoken to outside both the steam forums and here agree with me, that its my property and i can do what i like with it.

True it is your property, but you did agree to the STEAM™ SUBSCRIBER AGREEMENT.
I doubt they actually enforce it but if anything goes wrong at least they can say, "We told you so".
You're forgetting, just like you might have some law that makes the agreement void, Valve is not required by law to have you as a customer either. So even though you legally can sell your games, valve can still disable your account.
Everyone on the Steam forums say its not my property, I don't understand that?? How many of us actually read all those agreements while installing a game?? Instead of just clicking next, next, next, till your playing....
While this is of course true, it still doesn't negate the fact that you agreed to it. (Which is sort of scary if you think about it. I mean, technically speaking that License Agreement from Microsoft I agreed on could have said it gives Microsoft the legal right to harvest my organs whenever they choose to.)

Licence Agreements can't make you do anything which is illegal in your home country. Mind you, Steam servers are Seattle-based, so I'm not sure how that works for account disabling.
You misunderstand. What I'm saying is that I don't think Valve are going to bother enforcing this. I think that they are worried that people trying to sell the CD-Keys might get ripped off by the person buying them (or vice versa) in which case they can say, "Bad luck" and have a excuse to ban people. But thats highly unlikely someone will buy them then turn around and report you because then they wouldn't be able to use the codes they'd bought.I doubt they actually enforce it but if anything goes wrong at least they can say, "We told you so".

I was exaggerating for comedic purposes.
Ah, yes, but I used your deliberate exaggeration to highlight an important (and serious) point!
Sorry for using you like that man. ;(
I want a seperation!
