Lord of the Rings rules with 11. Master and Commander just one shy with 10. Cold Mountain, Mystic River, and Lost in Translation with 7.

cool that johnny depp got nominated for pirates...he had a very unique character.
i wish i'd seen lost in translation...i heard it was good...and i like bill murray.'
also nice to see Ken Watanabe get a nomination for last samurai...i think he even overshadowed tom cruise in that movie...his character was just so well done.

i think the top nominated movies will clean up...it's just a matter of which one gets more.

YESSSS another reward show! I tell you America doesnt care enough about those actors! :E

the academy awards is the only one i ever watch...golden globes...emmys...grammys...all crap.

it's just some people like to see actors get awarded for performances they liked.

Johnny better win best actor... that's the only one I really care about...

He was nothing short of brilliant in PotC. Not often you find such a unique performance.

pirates was a good movie......

not big on award shows though......cept mabey the MTV ones.

well...looks like LOTR is gonna run away with pretty much every prize. i agree, ken watanbe deserves recognition for his performance, truly believable.

Johnny and Ken deserve some recognition but... well ****it GO LOTR!!!

Another awards show.....................as if they don't get overpaid already they get rewards for it to!!!!!

I bet most people here worker harder than they do and dont get 1/1000 of the credit.

Yea really, its kinda sad how much they are pampered, they could probably get someone to whip their asses if they asked.

The Triplets from Belleville ROCKS! It's one of the best damn cartoons I've ever watched! Finding Nemo was fun but this one....damn

Yeah, ken watanabe was definitely awesome.. Japanese English is so cool sometimes :)

I'm just happy we swedes got a nomination for best foreign film, it would be cool to win..

But "Evil" just sounds plain retarded..

We won an Oscar last year WARGH!!
Hmmm...I thought Goodbye Lenin would be nominated? ...it's a German film...

The LOTR trilogy should be nominated for "Best pwnage" :p
Side: "But "Evil" just sounds plain retarded..", "Evil" is not the correct translation. I dont think there is one, maybe "The Evil" :)

the LOTR trilogy is way overrated.

ROTK was extremely bad edited.
TT was too slow, and cut way too many things to ROTK.
FOTR was the only one [edit] that deserved the awards[/edit] (though they did cut Tom Bombadil and others off).

It's still one of the only trilogies that lived up to the hype.

Dawdler, I agree..

Maybe it should be, "The Evilness" or something, like evil is itself an entity.. that sounded more retarded than "Evil", but it's more correct :P

I really hope RotK get some damn awards now, they should've gotten more before, at least Fellowship should've, maybe not TTT so much

the LOTR trilogy is way overrated.

FOTR was the only one acceptable (though they did cut Tom Bombadil and others off).

It's still one of the only trilogies that lived up to the hype.
..

I don't understand how you can think that the fellowship was the only acceptable movie of the trilogy, and yet the trilogy still lived up to the hype ?

Although I agree that the first movie is probably the best, I still think its the grandest movie adventure EVER in modern history... It may have flaws, but its beleivable. And that really says it all, cause it should be impossible :)

FOTR was amazing
TT admittedly was flawed
ROTK was lacking in parts but pwned grander than anything I've seen in a good while. Cried at the end, alot ^_^

I think that the LOTR films were great, no doubt about it. But right now I'm so tired of having to listen to people who just LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE those movies. Sure, they did a good job on the effects, and the casting was good too, but they were really overrated. Back when they were written - like 2000 years B.C - I bet they must have been really good, even though not all excepted Tolkien's story. But honestly, I can find other films that are TWICE as good as LOTR, no matter if it's FOTR, TTT or ROTK!

And I can definitly see why Johnny Depp was nominated for his role in Pirates. If he hadn't been in that film there would have been no reason to watch it. The story itself is nothing we haven't seen before:
Pirates, the young savior, the very ****able female character and the evil pirates...
Johnny Depp really saved that film from being just another crappy film...oh and the underwater seen where the "skeleton-pirates" come walking is great...
The soundtrack for the film sucked too, because it's no near piraty-music. I had probably expected some Monkey Island music...

I was about to get up from the chair about 5 times near the end of the film because it kept on fading out....................and THEN faded back in.

EDIT: Weeeee, my post number 900!

Cool! Bill Murray got nominated. I hope he wins because he roXX0rd in Lost in Translation!!

Johnny Depp is one of my favourite actors and was excellent in POTC - but an oscar for best actor?? That would be ridiculous ..... i'm sure he would be the first to agree.

if LOTR doesnt win best costume design nothing will. Its one thing designing a nice suit of armour- its another making them for an army.
and out of everyone here who has actually read LOTR?
/me has

I've read lotr several times..

and Bilbo..

and Silmarillion...

and that other book that I don't know the name of in English... :P

I should read them in English though, but I'm busy!

ive only read the lotr trilogy. i havent read the hobbit, every1 presumes any1 who has read the trilogy has read the hobbit but its not true. (i read a graphic novel of the hobbit.... will that do?)

I hope i win the award for best assistant supporting male watching the Oscars....
Ok so the Oscars arent that bad but some of those award ceramonies have so many awards its just not worth it.
