OT: Think HL2 graphics are good?

"How can you possibly complain about progress? I dont get it."



complain about the progress of gaming, or hardware? I believe that games like STALKER, and Unreal are too demanding. I think that games are getting a bit too far ahead of the hardware they demand. Then again, I worry too much :p

Seriously, you do ;)

Basically theres two extreme paths here,.

In one, we'll be playing current generation games forever. Nothing will get better. It will get boring fast.

In the other, games and hardware progress far to fast for us to afford to stay 'top of the line'. However, very soon the cheap second and third tier hardware will be far better then the hardware we have now. We wont be cutting edge, but we'll see awsome progress.

I'd take the latter any day.

woah shit.... those pics of Unreal 3 engine (the last comparison pic of the black dude in particular) are .. unreal.

as most others have said, HL2 was a 2003 release graphicaly.. looks good for what it is, but nothing compared to next gen games.
(and no i dont like plastic looking models, thats not what I am talking about)

then again (as every hl fanboy including myself will blindly argue, even without playing HL2) Hl2's gameplay is where it's at.
that makes up for less than spectacular graphic prowess.... I have never been an Unreal fan :/
 
After seeing all of the news screens I can honestly say seeing them was better than sex. The graphics have improved a mile since e32k4. The soft, self shadowing is like nothing I've seen before, the character detail in the models and levels is awe inspiring, the radiosity lighting is the best looking in a game by so mu.....*bursts into tears*
 
I still can't get over the beauty of those unreal3 screens when I first saw them I though wow...next generation.

U3 gfx suck,. compared to 2008 engines..

The future is always way better,. its just a relativly new thing (past few years) that we've really gotten to see what it looks like before it comes.

yeah Im sure the unreal 3 engine would look worse... since well.. supposedly the unreal 3 engine technology is projected as being a 2006 engine.
I really cant even imagine anything looking better in that time (something may come out, but really U3 really has blown me away).
I mean wow, how can anyone deny that Unreal 3 engine is simply amazing?
it not only looks great, look at the physics and lighting... its like uber hl2 and uber doom3 mixed, but like.. uber... and better stuffies.
