Guess what? Zombie unemployment rates are at an all time low! Now for the bad news; another zombie mod has been announced. [br] [br] At least, that’s what I was thinking when I stumbled across the newly revealed “Over Run”. But just looking at the wonderful weapon models and grimy, atmospheric map screens… well, actually… I’m still not convinced. It’s just with the likes of Zombie Master, D.E.A.D and NMRIH shuffling towards completion, it’s hard not to be sceptical of the smaller horror mods popping up. [br] [br] But it’s early days yet, and hence it’s impossible to tell whether Over Run will rise above it’s zombie peers and be heralded as a survival great among mods, or be swept away by the opposition. Take a look at these early media shots, and decide for yourselves;[br]

eh this really shouldn't be front page news..
I've been told to be less untight about choosing news :(
Ah well, that means more info for you guys :E

write about hl2dm pro 1.4 coming out
that's good news :D

It's because HLfallout put a load of crap on their front page so we must keep up. Sure, they've got lots of news but we've got quality over quantity and a nice article about to come out...

OOPS. I've said too much.

Unskinned renders....

Are you happy now, polyguns?

By the way - "Overrun" is one word.

It's going to be battle of the HL2 zombie mods! I wager They Hunger : Lost Souls will win hands down ........... leaving room for the battle of the FREE HL2 zombie mods :)

They Hunger: Lost Souls isn't a HL2 mod - it's a standalone game.

I thought this, but they say "Over Run" when talking about it on their website :O

Unskinned renders are worse than no renders at all. Sheesh.

and thats probably the worst map screenshot I've ever seen. Why release media if it sucks? That's barely HL1 quality geometry. Take a picture of some part of the level that's not a featureless wall with a door.

I find the floor to be very nice. The walls are indeed teh suck :|

i give this mod zero chance of succeeding..

i dont slam just to slam, but after poking around the low quality website, noticing there is next to no interest, crappy renders and map, and a very small team, it just doesnt bode well. best of luck tho, i'd like to be proven wrong.

but the biggest reason i feel this wont get off the ground, is there is simply no use for it. the zombie market has already been cornered by some pretty impressive teams.

but none of that matters anyways - only one mod that counts - Fortress-Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:sniper:

ok, I want to apologize to the staff of halflife2.net for what i said earlier. Though my intentions were good, I forgot all about zombie mods. now, I apologized, will you please not do this anymore?

thanks,
polyguns

no, its a mod they will charge for. sorry for the double post, i dunno how to do 2 quotes in one post.

look at all the hl2 content in it, its not totally origional, can't do that in a year. I could be wrong, if you can buy it without owning hl2, then its a standalone, but they they better give props for hl2 textures

where is zombie master?
look at my zombie head

I think it's nice to cover something that looks shit once in a while so we don't seem like we're always cheerful. :E

"Black Widow Games announced today the development of They Hunger: Lost Souls, its first commercial PC game powered by the award-winning Half-Life 2 Source engine from Valve Software. "

I presume that they'll change the textures/models in the final pass.

It's in steady development. Impressive head, by the way.

That's the nastiest burn ever. I'm not going to involve myself in this seeming underwater-sting-fest, but why break down the mod? More = better, and if they go some unique, really cool and innovative way with the mod, (even if it's after a while), why condone it?

BTW polyguns, I posted on your forums ;)

QFT. Don't put these guys down.

Okay, so I'm being harsh. I guess it's just my evil grumpy side getting through again. But I think there's something to be said for having a decent looking website, writing in decent english, having a good/original idea, having more than unskinned renders and not-great maps.

It just seems to me that the likelyhood is they'll never even get any code done. :(

Their site sucks o_O?
BTW, been there (regarding the code) :p

Something's up with that map screen. Seems it was resized from something smaller :/

No its blurred, basically all their map shots are....I'm quite afraid to see what they look like normally.

Quote of the week! [Edit] I didn't realise that was his name. I just thought it was an incredibly good pun.

Glad someone said something about the spelling before I did.

will someone please have some originality? PLEASE?! Im dieing here. Between "realism", zombies and WW2, there is **** all

We need more Gangster mods!

why thats what i told her!

OH SNAP

I have no forums beerdude, me so damn confused.

not to diss the mod, but i disagree that more is better. most mods, you get an ego, that wants to make a mod, and be top dog, rather then someone who wants to help actually produce a project, and contribute something playable.

theres already a shitton of zombie mods out there. if you want to make a zombie mod, and have something to contribute, then contribute, if you just have an idea, or want to be famous, then game design isn't for you

This news post should not have been posted because of a few things:
1) After the quality mod art/models etc. that have been posted more recently from more established mods (Dystopia to name one lol), it makes this mod look bad.
2) People will inevitably burn the work (and hence the modders themselves, indirectly) therefore modders get disheartened and might do... things (Cue, next headline: When Modders Go Mad!)

It was in response to a few requests by forum members for more work from less established mods, which was, I think, a good principle. But see above reasons. It might not be neccessary to publicise mods that have just been announced with minimal media, but continue to support those mods that have been featured before (as you do do in the majority of cases). Also, the Matrix Map should have had a frontpage news post for its final release. It made me quite unhappy that I had to find out about that final release by looking at servers playing the map without a 'betax' in the name.

I didn't know HLfallout existed, but now I've checked it out, I have to say the news is much better. Firstly you get more of it, which is better and then it uses a proper news system rather than these silly forums!

Oh well, I might pop by some time, but I think I've been converted!

Whatever.

Nah, I'm being too harsh. It's all cool, and HLfallout are our 'affiliates' after all. But I think that more news isn't necessarily better - this Overrun mod being a good example. And what's wrong with this news system? News appears on the front page; it gets discussed in a forum.

Well, if you ever have anything that you think is particularly newsworthy do post it to that 'submit news' thing. Admittedly it may get ignored, but it's a better chance than nothing. And it's less likely to get ignored if a note is included saying 'SERIOUSLY, THIS IS REALLY GOOD.' :p

The RSS feed leads directly to a forum post, which I don't like. I'd prefer if it went to the actual news pages. It used to even jump down the thread to the newest unread comment, but luckily that got fixed.

Perhaps it would be possible to change the main RSS feed link to link to the main page, rather than the forums? I'm talking about the link that appears in the header of the Google Homepage RSS thingys, I don't know exactly how that works though. At least then I don't need to manually type anything!

When we post news it gets automatically inserted into the forum database, then a php page calls on the 15 most recent threads in this forum to be displayed.

As it's done this way, there's no way to point it to "the actual news pages".

The RSS feed will be getting some enhancements soon. Now in fact, because no bugger else will do it ;)

The RSS feed should now be slightly improved. vBulletin improved it in vB3.5 and I've just changed the link.
