The 9500 and 9700 series were discontinued a while ago by ATI. I know the 9500 was gone because it was pretty much an underclocked 9700 and with a lower price, dunno about the 9700. But now the prices for them are very high. the cheapest prices I could find for a 9700 pro or non-pro ranged from $235-$250. Even the non-pros were at $249! But why pay that much when you could have a 9800 pro for less? And the 9500s, I used pricegrabber and found a 64mb 9500 for $117 and a 128mb non pro 9500 for $142! I guess they cost alot because they're not made, sure, but why pay so much?

To own a piece of hardware history? I don't know. It's like you said, they're not being manufactured anymore, so the prices have gone up.

I got my 9700 about a year and a half ago for $200, was a bargain, as most sites had it for $250

Its because the few sites that still has them are hoping some idiots will come around and buy the old c***, they just refuse to sell it at a loss even though you can get something alot cheaper and better. And the worst thing is it works more than you should think, its those people that just goes after what their friend or whomever they know have bought even if it was a year ago. If u dont know how to install your printer and some1 u know did it for you (even if thats the only computer stuff he knows cuz he juyst installed his own going through the manual and spending hours on it), hes like a computer whiz to that person, and youd might just rely on what he bought to find out what ull get for yourself.

Same thing if you look at PC133 memory vs PC100.
Go to the store and you can get 256MB PC133 for 75$...PC100 is 110$.
Then compare that with DDR for 70$.
Old hardware basicly freezes in price when the demand leaves.

:naughty: Prices rise as products become rare, that is the case here.

Well, the 9700pro started as a 400$ card right? so.
