what would a p4 3.0 ghz be in amd 64 terms? like a 3000? or 2800?

Can I borrow this thread please?

Thanks

ok I was thinking, is P4 3.8 ghz better than Athlon 64 3500+ in games or are they about the same?

An AMD Athlon 64 3000+ SHOULD be equivalent to an Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, but the 64 chips seem to be a lot faster in games. I have seen charts where the 3200+ and 3400+ chips smoke the 3.4 GHz EE from Intel.

That's not how the rating system works... it hasn't been acurate for ALONG time now...

iirc an amd 64 3000+ should perform just as good as an original athlon @ 3ghz.

Uh the 3.4EE and 3200/3400 are usually neck to neck, one wins better in the other blah blah blah

3.4EE is MUCH better than 3400+, heck it should be compared to the FX-53

well my point is that it beats 3400+

Can anyone tell me if 3.2c Oced to 3.8 ghz will beat or atleast be as good as 3500+ in games?

These are OCed results from a FX-53 and P4 3.4EE. This should give you an idea although the P4 EE results will be much higher than the standard Prescott or Northwood cores while the FX series isn't much better than the A64.
Note:The FX series tested was Socket 940 which uses Registered Memory. The scores will be higher on systems without Registered Memory.

FX-53 is better than 3.4 EE but not by much.

Anyways, Asus can you tell me/ or post a link of a benchmark where they're comparing 3.2c OCed to 3.8 Ghz against Athlons 64? I would like to know if 3.8 ghz is good as 3500+.

This is about the closest thing I could find.
E is the Prescott core while C is the Northwood core which is hardly sold anymore. And again, the FX-53 is Socket 940 here as well.

Although This will give you a reference to how well the P4 EE performs compared to the P4 'E'.
You could try to reference it to benchmarks like these to give you an idea.

Personally, I don't think the 3.8GHz is going to pass the 3500+ for gaming.

I know this is old but I always thought the xp ratings were a little off. I thought a athlonxp 3200 would usually perform similar to a p4 3.0ghz in games. I never payed much attention to the xp's though because I regarded them as as a slower chip. Am I right?

Correct.
They are slower in most tasks compared to the Pentium 4 with 800FSB. The P4 chips which they overlap with (with 533FSB) they are not slow compared to them at all.

In bandwidth intensive programs, the 800FSB pentium 4's excell compared to the Athlon XPs. Although for the price the Athlon XP's were still a great deal.

In my expierence, a 3200, will smoke the equiv pentium 3.2 and etc In games.
While the pentium will smoke the AMD in, encoding, video editing, etc.

But to me the kicker is, a 3200 is cheaper then a 3.2ghz

That really depends on the program and use.
