JERUSALEM - Under the cover of fog, two heavily armed Palestinian militants used a rope and ladder to scale a border wall Saturday and enter Israel from Gaza, attacking an army base with explosives and gunfire before they were tracked down and killed by Israeli troops.

In Saturday?s early morning raid, the militants took advantage of darkness and weather conditions to slip into Israel near the Erez border crossing, said Col. Moni Katz, an Israeli commander. ?There was thick fog that enabled us to see only a few meters (yards) ahead,? he said. Katz said four militants approached the wall, but only two of them climbed into Israel. Soldiers showed reporters the rope the attackers used to slide down.

Maj. Tal Lev-Ram, an Israeli army spokesman, said there was ?an intention to carry out a large attack in Israeli territory.? He said the militants were armed ?head to toe? with grenades and automatic weapons. ...

In Gaza, three militant groups ? the Popular Resistance Committees, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Al Aqsa Martyrs? Brigades ? claimed responsibility in a joint statement.

An Al Aqsa official confirmed the fog had created a ?golden opportunity,? adding the border farming community of Netiv Haasara was the target. He was not authorized to talk to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The groups also issued a farewell video made by the two dead attackers in which the men, wearing green and brown camouflage, read verses from the Quran and said the attack was for the sake of God and the Palestinian homeland. The men brandished automatic weapons, and flags of the three groups were in the background.

Perfect example of the effectiveness of the security barrier and the diligence of the Israel Defence Forces. I guess they'll be explaining to Allah soon enough why their corporeal form is full of holes and lead.

No-one gives a flying **** about your zionist bullshit.

I don't make a thread every time Chavez takes a shit.

Actually, It's you guys who bring up Chavez or some shit in posts that have nothing to do with it.

Bah, love is overrated compared to the 5.56 caliber bullet of the M16. Certainly didn't save these guys.

Another useless thread (you can tell because the replies are all jokes or trite flames). What the hell's here to talk about except petty rivalries within the forum and the general question of Israel/Palestine? If you want to start a thread on that, be comprehensive and frank about it.

EDIT:

Newsflash. Trite put-downs about avatars and suchlike are not a substitute for debate.

To counter the point made by the original poster, I would argue that by cutting Gaza off from the West Bank Israel has allowed Hamas and other extremist groups to grow in strenght due to the lack of opposition from Palestinian Government forces and Fatah/Fatah allied malitias.

I fear the situation is dangerously close to creating 2 seperate Palestines. Which isn't good for anyone. Mind you, the Israelis may just be setting it up so they can roll in the tanks under the excuse that "we're stopping those crazy ass militants" so they can reoccupy and then probubly annex Gaza.

Israel doesn't have any reason to annex Gaza. Since the closing of the border after Hamas took over, they cannot attack Israel directly, only fire Qassams as I mentioned. Creating two Palestines is actually a good idea because Fatah and Hamas will keep fighting each other. As of late, Fatah is mostly in the West Bank, and Hamas in Gaza, but Hamas is prominent in each. Seperating the two groups like this is actually in the best interest of the Palestinians. It'll stop the in-fighting, but only the the stuff that isn't clan or tribal-based, which will mean only about half of it. They can grow in strength, but blocking them off, well, once again, as I said: They cannot attack Israel directly anymore. If the Israelis keep this up, they can force the Palestinians into submission both economically and physically. Hamas taking over Gaza has actually proven quite useful for Israel even though Hamas are just as evil as Fatah.
