I'm going to get a new PC later in the year and hope to get more into PC gaming whereas I don't have much games now.

All I own the now is:
steam stuff
hitman 1 (others on console)
F.E.A.R.
Thief 1,2 and 3

So can you guys recommend me some stuff and specifically some stuff on steam.

Max Payne 2
Starcraft (any computer will run this..)
Diablo (any computer..)
Diablo 2 (any computer..)
STALKER

Oh I forgot I have max payne 1,2 and deus ex 1 and 2 aswell. Forgot that.

Knights of the Old Republic
The Witcher
Neverwinter Nights 2
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Call of Duty 4
Company of Heroes

Beyond Good & Evil (replaying for what, the fifth time now?)
Fallout (seriously)
KOTOR 2
Planescape Torment
Baldur's Gate series
Gears of War PC
World in Conflict
Battlefield 2142
Command & Conquer 3
Call of Duty 4

Command & Conquer: The First Decade
Tron 2.0
DEFCON

Call Of Duty 4
Prenumbra (its not out yet, but looks great already, go search it)
World in Conflict
Quake series
original Halo (MP was OK)
Lost Planet Extreme Condition

Hah I have a decient PC up for sale right now, if you're intersted.

As for games, I'd go with the FEAR series, Crysis (got it for 40, CE, PM me), and "Soldiers of Anarchy".

Planescape and Baldur's Gate 1 & 2. They don't make em like that any more :/

original Halo (MP was OK)

I just love how people here have to defend themselves for liking Halo. There's nothing wrong with enjoying it :upstare:

  • [SHOOTER] Orange Box
  • [SHOOTER] Call of Duty 4
  • [STRATEGY] Medieval II
  • [MMO] Lord of The Rings: Online
  • [SHOOTER] Counterstrike

There's 2 steam games (3 inc. CoD4, but its cheaper to buy it from an online store)

Thanks for the suggestions guys I also had a couple in mind tell me what you think:

command and conquer 3
command and conquer 3 kane's wrath
command and conquer the first decade
company of heroes
crysis
world in conflict
call of duty (never played 1 but I have 2, 3 and 4 on the 360)
id super pack from steam
psychonauts
red orchestra (not sure about this one)
stalker
unreal tournament III(not sure about this either)
the ship(not sure about this either)
Battlefield 2142

also if you guys want to know here is my steam games list:

Some good games there, i'm not too keen on the ID pack though.

Just so you know, BF2142 is terrible on a wireless connection, so you'll either have to change your network or not play online (which is a good idea.. because the only SP you get is a few bots on 6 maps).

I'm also gonna presume you're getting a decent graphics card, because Crysis, CoD4 and UT3 are far better with settings on high.

Yeah I plan to get a 8800GTS.

I am abit unsure of the id pack cos i like alot of the games(quake and doom) but alot i've never played before like commander keen and hexen o_O

Also some of those games I have on that list I can run now like the ship and psychonauts I just haven't got round to getting them. :|

Got bioshock on 360 :(

Also you live in US don't you? Can't get any of them I live in the UK and shipping is ridiculous and I don't want to get hit with tax like the last time I imported.

Any reason you're getting a GTS and not a GT?

If you're set on not getting a GT, then i've heard the GTX is close to the GTS in price..

Oh? If that's the case then I might as well just go for the GTX. Thanks Citrus

Metal gear Solid 1 & 2
Psychonauts
GTA VC
MDK2
Abe's Exoddus
Trackmania Sunrise
Vampire bla bla bloodlines
Prince of persia sands saga (all 3 cost like 10,-)
Bioshock
Sam & max Season 1
The longest journey (if you fancy adventure games)
Grim Fandango
Outcast( doesn't play on XP)
Battlefield 2
Rise of nations
Sim City 4

Get yourself a n64/psx/GBA/ScummVM emulator.
ScummVM plays all the classic adventure games
N64 and GBA emu's are great because roms are
small in size and n64 has some great games.

Ah, ok. Didn't know if you were in the states or not.

UT3 is pretty bad. You're better off with UT2004, if anyone still plays it. Though there aren't a whole lot of people playing UT3 anyway.
Battlefield 2142 is a horrible game, go for Battlefield 2 instead. You might want to look into ET: Quake Wars, but it doesn't have a squad system like BF2 so teamplay on public servers is even more non-existent.

Also, get Freespace 2 and there's a mod which brings the graphics etc. up to date. It's a fantastic experience, easily the best space combat game ever. Very epic and cinematic. Shame they don't make em anymore.

One of my friends said he'd give me his copy of UT 2k4 so i'll stick with that. I've tried ETQW and I wasn't too fond of it but I might get BF2 instead then.

Also can someone hose played it tell me about red orchestra or the ship? I keep hearing mixed things from both.

The difference you get in help is so noticeable on this board compared to others. :) I tried this on gamefaqs and didn't get a straight answer.

What's the name of the mod to updated FS2 graphics? I'd love to play that game with it looking semi-current :).

I'd forgotten, hence the vagueness, but it's FS2 Open/the Source Code Project.

You can also run the original Freespace game files through the mod and play that with the same quality graphics. It's one of those games that just takes you out of your bedroom and puts you THERE...
I'm a sucker for atmosphere in games. Fond memories of Thief 3 and Chaos Theory...

I wasn't too fond of it either, which is a shame because I thought it was going to be amazing. The same developers originally made Q3Fortress, which was a great love of mine. It's quite frustrating really, there hasn't been a decent multiplayer game in ages. I thought UT3 would be the next big thing but it was none of the things it promised to be.
Battlefield 2 has a lot more "bite" than BF2142, which just feels really sloppy and bleurgh.

Get Battlefield 2, look at it in disgust then go and download the Project Reality mod for it.

Disclaimer: be prepared for large amounts of teamwork and tactics. Lots of fun once you get over the learning curve.

Sounds very interesting. Do people actually play as a team?

  • Command & Conquer: The First Decade [Much better than C&C3]
  • Company of Heroes [One of the best stratagy games I've ever played]
  • Grim Fandango [hilarous and brilliant adventure/puzzle game]

What's so good about that mod? I've never played it but everything I've heard about it sounds damn awful.

Also, don't overlook Doom 3. It's not a revolution in gaming or anything, but there aren't really any other games like it and it's definitely worth experiencing. The atmosphere and the action is great, as are the PDA audio logs and stuff laying around, the main problem with it is there's very little variety and the middle of the game drags on and on and on. The beginning and the final quarter of the game are great though, and the expansion pack makes the game a fair bit more interesting.

Most people will disagree, but I also think Unreal 2 is a good game. Worth playing, good all-round solid shooter. Lots of variety. And Tribes: Vengeance is a hidden gem. Unfortunately I doubt you'll find any players online, but it actually has a really excellent singleplayer too. The story is brilliant, and sad. Check it out.

In any case though, you must play The Witcher. Best RPG ever. And if you didn't play KoToR on your Xbox, that's a must-play aswell.

I've heard lots of great things about grim fandango. Does it work on XP properly?

Worked fine for me. But I googled it just a second ago and it seems a lot of
folks are having trouble. Still who cares, you're gonna pirate it anyway.

Grim fandango is excellent, not sure if it runs on XP, but I can't imagine it wouldn't.

I'd recommend Stalker and the Witcher as definite purchases. Plenty of hours of gaming in each.

It worked on my XP and it only crashed about twice. No other problems with it.

You pretty much can't play it any other way. Most servers kick you if you don't join a squad, and either way the game revolves around teamwork and communication. Basically, the guys over at Project Reality have made, or done their best at making, the finest war game with realistic gameplay. Flashpoint meets Battlefield 2, let's say. All weapons - including actual nations armies weapons + new i.e. the British Army (!!) - fully tweaked to how the behave in real life, and the same can be said for everything else in terms of tweaking; vehicles, health, weapon ballistics, squad roles...

There's a fine line between the realism and the teamplay and tactics as you need to employ the latter in games like Halo 3 or Gears of War, and a lot more other games, but then the realism kicks in and really puts empthasis on the gameplay. It's not like Quake - you get shot once, you're going to need a medic quick before you bleed out. Sometimes you won't even see combat. You'll see distant figures fighting in short, sporadic bursts of action from one end of a street to the other (much like how you see footage of fighting on TV in Iraq) so the combat isn't always in your face or running into you around a tight corner. But when you do see combat it becomes a very rewarding and satisfying experience mostly because of how you and your team and squad take control of the situation. And trust me, even during games when I'm playing a support role with s squad automatic weapon and I don't even pull the trigger once, instead I assist in spotting enemies another squad can't see or simply driving my squad mates across the map, it's still a very, very fun game to take part in.

EDIT: Here's the trailer for the latest PR version, v.0.7, which I do believe is out now. I haven't got it myself but as soon as I get boot camp up and running I'll be playing for sure. Charlie 2's!

Riom, where have you heard that? As far as I could tell it has a very strong fanbase and has received a lot of praise in the modding community. Unfortauntly, introducing such lenghty realism into the FPS world is going to take a lot of people by surprise and I imagine there are still a lot of people who can't tackle such the change from BUNNY HOP BUNNY HOP BUNNY HOP ROCKET SPAM WEEEEEE to a whole different area of gameplay.

I second Project Reality (just make sure you read the guide before you play, if you don't want to get screamed at over VOIP by your squad mates)

Also, Jon Woo's Stranglehold was a fun little game (and a must if you liked hard boiled :D)

Dawn of War is lots of fun and not very much these days

Oh, and Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars is good as well.

FPS games:
Call of duty 4
