PC Gamer US hasn't even said that it's got a review yet.

This is from the newest issue of pc gamer talking about nexts month issue kinda strange how they put it....nothing directly mentioned about HL2 but at the end they do say..
"And if we should happen to have yet another barn-burning exclusive announcement....well, dont be too shocked.Seeya!"
...and thats it.

Wasn't it the UK PC Gamer that announced the review? :|

true statement. but according to the topic, it could refer to either UK or US.

I think we should get pics of this and well I think high 90s, but of course what do I base this off of? Nothing and thats my point.
That would be a lot of hats. :x It would make more sense to say that if HL2 gets less than 96%, he will eat one hat for every % point below 96.

I'm going to guess 95%.

have they ever given a game a 100?
Not sure about PC Gamer UK, but the highest from the US one was a 98% for Alpha-Centauri. Half-Life 1 got a 97%

You can't. Not even if its perfect. I'd assume perfect would mean no flaws whatsoever. However despite its greatness, there is always something that could be better.

There are very few records in sports that may never be broken, but the point is they could be. Its the same reason Olympic judges try not to give 10's. If they did, then the very next person does even better, all the scores below it are given an unfair boost.

If the game lives up to the hype I'd say its a 94-96%. Just based on what it looks like it looks sure to be over 90%. If its the "Perfect game" 98-99" but I don't see that happening

i am saying 96% , i mean what will be bad about it? we know the gameplay is good , graphics r awesom , sound acting is amazing , and the multiplayer will be amazing thanx cs:s and all the other mods , also throw in hl:s in there! i mean u cant give it lower than 96% ! ull see guyz its 96% !!

Whatever it gets, I'm sure it will deserve it. But if you want an estimate, I'm going to say 94+.

 And you wonder why Valve keep delaying the game?!? They are filtering it out, makinglots of adjustments just so they get a 99-100 score from reviews! Why? Because they saw stupid kids from Hl2.net whine about the score!

I'm guessing it will get a 96-97, unless I've been over-hyped to hell, in which case it will get an 89.

A HL2.net newbie with a guess & with backup

Hey all,

98%

This is a guess of course, but here's what I figure:

Gameplay
I've seen vids, and that's nothing like playing, but if it plays like HL1, then it will score high. That game still just 'feels' best to me. The speed, the movement, the pace... perfect. I have no doubts as to the strength of the story and the level of immersion that will be in this game, because remember (unless they all went insane, which is possible but I dont like to acknowledge that), the game really CANT be worse than HL1, which is still way more engaging to me than recent FPS's.

Sound
This will rock. It did in HL1, so why (how?) could it get worse. Even if I am comparing it to Doom3 (which is inevitable in reviews), the sounds will be of different natures, but the atmosphere no less engaging.

Graphics
I think that it will lose some points here from that perfect score. Not because I don't think it will be amazing, but I think that Doom3 looks better. The Doom3 engine (does it have another name?) IMO is the strongest graphics engine with existing games. Sure, it may be tailored to tight indoor (metal, heh) environments, but it appears to have a bit more polish to it than Source. I think that HL2 will not look quite as great as Doom3, which will hurt it, even if the req. system specs are much lower.

Replayability / Lasting appeal
No comment necessary. You know this is tops.

It doesn't really matter what score the game gets. I will want it, I will get it, and I will love it.

PS: Anyone remember the PCG spinoff mag called PC Accellerator? It kicked ass but got canned. They reviewed HL1 with the most kickass score of any review I've read: 11/10. Goddamn, those were the days... how I miss thee, PCXL.

The problem with PC Gamer now adays is that they follow what's "expected" Meaning that their low will read "Delays made the technology not so special." because that's what is expected. Even though Diablo 2, WC3, Doom 3, etc etc and other such awesome games were delayed. They WILL single out Half-Life 2. I like PC Gamer, but they have their flaws.
