PC games with good story line

And the OP is asking specifically for ones post-2007. Go make another thread if you want to ignore the topic.

Who gives a shit, most good games came out pre-2007.
Nothing in the universe is truer than this statement. NOTHING.

On topic, I suppose CoD4 had a decent story. Nothing else really springs to mind.

Awww who's a grumpy ikkle baby this morning? Baby want a hug? Hug for ikkle grumpykins?

So I just started on GTA 4, and it's pretty awesome so far. So I'd say, if your systems good enough, or you don't mind playing it in windowed mode, go get that game. Roman is an awesome character..

Deus Ex came out in 2007. Dumbledore outed him.

Also Steam.

Wait, Lambda said Fallout 3 has good story?

Talk about credibility.

Fallout 3? good story?

If you want story and writing then go play one of the previous games.

Whoops looks like I butthurt the fallout fanboys :|

I liked the bit in the vault... not good 'story line', but presentation, which is as important IMO.

I didn't. The engine has major talking-to-people problems where the whole thing hovers on the wrong side of the uncanney valley. Especially when you talk to people and they exorcist-twist their heads around to talk to you.

Anyway, I hear Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer has a good story.

Mass Effect is good.
Fallout 3 is really not too bad, but I can't help but find its story and characters to be disappointing when compared to the previous games.
There's, of course, The Orange Box.

If there's anything else I played with a memorable story I can't remember it.

Fallout 3 had a descent story. Could have been better.

People are just butt-hurt about F3's plot because of the ending.

Nothing really. I think Gears of War was a 2007-2009 high point. That doesn't mean it's good though... but is that even out for PC yet?

No, that's pbecause it's bad and doesn't make a speck of sense.

Especially when you consider that purifying water requires as little as a jar of dirt to do, making the purifier useless.

Did they ever fix the major bugs and performance issues? Those are what kept me from getting very far when I first played NWN2.

As much as I'm going to regret starting this discussion with you, AFAIK the dirt was all radioactive on account of all the nuclear stuff. I remember this guy outside a city wanting water, but he wouldn't accept any until it was properly purified. Pretty sure your dirt theory would produce radioactive water.

I was temtped to begin this post with "You're An Idiot", but I decided to simply link to the sites below:

To purify water, filter it through a coffee filter, cheese cloth or paper towel. This will remove any particles. Then you can boil it, or use household bleach (16 drops from an eyedropper per gallon of water) to sterilize it. After adding bleach, let the water stand at least 30 minutes before drinking.

Distillation involves boiling water and collecting the vapor that condenses back to water. The condensed vapor may include salt or other impurities.

* Fill a pot halfway with water.
* Tie a cup to the handle on the pot's lid so that the cup hangs right side up when the lid is upside-down (make sure the cup is not dangling into the water).
* Boil for 20 minutes. The water that drips from the lid into the cup is distilled.

Safest Water Sources

Water from springs, wells, or other underground sources that undergo natural filtration will be your safest source. Any water found in the pipes or containers of abandoned houses or stores will also be free from radioactive particles. This water will be safe to drink, although you will have to take precautions against bacteria in the water.

Snow taken from 15 or more centimeters below the surface during the fallout is also a safe source of water.

Streams and Rivers

Water from streams and rivers will be relatively free from fallout within several days after the last nuclear explosion because of dilution. If at all possible, filter such water before drinking to get rid of radioactive particles. The best filtration method is to dig sediment holes or seepage basins along the side of a water source. The water will seep laterally into the hole through the intervening soil that acts as a filtering agent and removes the contaminated fallout particles that settled on the original body of water. This method can remove up to 99 percent of the radioactivity in water. You must cover the hole in some way in order to prevent further contamination. See Figure 6-9 for an example of a water filter.

Standing Water

Water from lakes, pools, ponds, and other standing sources is likely to be heavily contaminated, though most of the heavier, long-lived radioactive isotopes will settle to the bottom. Use the settling technique to purify this water. First, fill a bucket or other deep container three-fourths full with contaminated water. Then take dirt from a depth of 10 or more centimeters below the ground surface and stir it into the water. Use about 2.5 centimeters of dirt for every 10 centimeters of water. Stir the water until you see most dirt particles suspended in the water. Let the mixture settle for at least 6 hours. The settling dirt particles will carry most of the suspended fallout particles to the bottom and cover them. You can then dip out the clear water. Purify this water using a filtration device.

Additional Precautions

As an additional precaution against disease, treat all water with water purification tablets from your survival kit or boil it.

This is not even a debatable point, as it's painfull obvious Bethesda failed to do even the most basic of research concerning their storyline, thus making it utterly stupid.

Oh like we care about that.

There was idiocy in more obvious areas than whether dirt was radioactive or not.

Except this is what the entire storyline hinges on.

And I know. M'Atra, I know...

The Water Purification storyline was a lot less cool (regardless of whether the physics works out) than the immediate 'save the world from being nuked a lot... again' storylines of 1 and 2. I wonder why Bethesda went with that.

Because - whether you like it or not - water shortage will be the bane of the coming years. It's just that we're still in "the Russian might nuke the world" mode and 9/11 isn't that long ago either, but the REAL threat to our society is the climate change. Just wait... within 5 years there's bound to be more sci-fi games about water or food shortages just because that's what awaits us in the future.

Quite. We long ago established that the only thing more banal than Fallout 3's plot is arguing about Fallout 3's plot.

Great. Now I need to play fallout 1 again. It's been a looong ****ing time.
I never completed number 2, I had a crash bug at the last boss. Kinda sucked.

It's not good as first game anyway.
