Pelosi: Five Years in Prison for Not Obtaining Coverage

So there is absolutely no opting out you're saying? Even if I choose to obtain private healthcare insurance I am still going to have to pay for others. **** that. Those who obtain their own private insurance should be exempt from this without the threat of jailtime or fines.

Luckily the bill is DOA in the senate!

No, if you obtain your own private insurance you will not be subject to an additional tax. If you refuse to buy insurance since you are making yourself a burden on the system you will be taxed extra.

It's really not that complicated.

And again, have you choosen to completely ignore every point made up to this point? Nobody is threatening you with jail time for not buying healthcare. However, if you decide that you want to evade taxes then that's already illegal and can land you in jail; this is nothing new.

RakuraiTenjin are you ever going to stop beleiving what these idiot republicans say? Has posting a letter from some dumbass republican ever turned out good for you? Next time do yourself a favor and apply some common sense to what you are about to post. Usually the general rule of thumb is if they are telling you that the democrats want to send you to prison or kill your grandma then it's probably bullshit.

Your polarizations of the political parties is rather shallow.... OH WAIT! The political parties ARE shallow... my bad. As far as I'm concerned anyone who generalizes the American people into the two shallowly defined groups of Republican and Democrats have almost no concept of the political environment.

Most people who identify as either one are the ones at the rallies holding posters for causes they know little about.

So, you want government health-care because you can't afford it? Well let me pass a bill that will increase taxes a decrease the prosperity of this economy so that you are fired from the one job you've managed to keep. Oh and while were at it we'll spend even more money telling you how to raiss your kid

He there, you want to protect marriage? Well lets give the Government the power to define your religious institution so that in the future they can come in and control what your pastor says. Would you like that?

(obviously I uses exaggerated examples)

Your sanctimonious attitude is so very tiring, Libertardian.

Socialist health-care bad for the economy myth? Out of the G8 only the USA doesn't have government-run health care. Yeah, positively disastrous for an economy, right?

Your view of marriage as a purely religious institution with government just poking its nose in is simply laughable.

Fair enough, if that's the case, but the wordng of the article made it seem like only people who don't have private insurance would be subjected to the extra tax.

Yes; however, part of the regular tax collection would still go towards healthcare. There wouldn't be an "extra tax" per say, but part of the check you write to the government would be put towards maintaining healthcare.

I don't know much at all about taxes, but I find it hard to believe that the government would charge twice for the same thing. Once for you, once for everyone else? Shouldn't they just lump it together then?

So Rakurai, if you have insurance through your employer, then obviously you would not have to pay an "uninsured tax fee". The tax will be pooled and used to pay for medical treatment of the people that do not have insurance.

The only way this insurance plan will work and remain affordable is if everyone pulls their weight.

It's the same thing with the Department of Motor Vehicles. You are required by law to have your car insured. If you don't have insurance, then you are charged an expensive "uninsured motorist fee". This is used to encourage everyone to have their car insured: either pay for insurance, or pay for a tax. The tax is not insurance however.

Instead of remaining ignorant and being outraged, why don't you look these things up? Ignorance, by its very definition, is willful. Of course, if all you read is biased, sensationalist [strike]'news'[/strike] propaganda, then what can you expect?

Sorry, but your 'car insurance' idea is total crap and completely wrong- Obama used the same exact example too to justify it so I'm betting that's where you pulled it from.

Car insurance isn't required on all cars, at all. It's a requirement if you want to use the public roadway system. You have have a private car and use it on your property only with no insurance all you want. It's just a requirement of driving on the public road system- not of having a car.

FURTHERMORE, car insurance is required as LIABILITY insurance. You are insured to cover damages you cause to SOMEBODY ELSE, not yourself. You're not required to have anything t protect yourself, and why should you be? Its your choice. We dont pay car insurance to "keep everybody elses car insurance premiums down" we do it to cover other people's damage in the event we wreck.

So why am I being forced to have myself insured?

Now with the healthcare bill they are touting a 2.5% deduction from personal income to cover this. That's a little over $800 for me- which is roughly equal to what I currently pay for private coverage through my employer, only mine is better coverage.

Again I ask- if I am not enrolled in government healthcare coverage, why am I being forced to pay a premium for it that totals slightly more than my PRIVATE coverage costs! If I dont want to pay I face jail time.

As far as we can tell you don't have to pay the tax if you are enrolled in private healthcare either.

As far as we can tell you don't have to pay the tax if you are enrolled in private healthcare either.

But I am forced to enroll in the government program and forced to pay the fee or face jail time, even if I am electing to have no coverage?

...if you are electing to have no coverage at all (not even private) and if you do not fulfil the 'hardship' and 'poverty' requirements, then yes?

Look, you keep refusing to be clear what you're objecting to. Your last post you claimed that the tax would be levied even on people who choose to have private coverage. As far as I can see that's not the case, and the tax is applied to those who choose to have no coverage whatsoever. So yes. If you refuse to pay the tax you will - as with all taxes - face prosecution. But this is really obscuring the question. The question is whether it is justifiable to levy this tax on people who have no healthcare for the sake of people that want to have healthcare. Obviously enough I believe that it is - I come from the UK where I happily pay into the NHS - but if you disagree, then please make that your argument instead of ****ing around.

What do you mean ****ing around? This is the point I have been making the entire time. You can be forced to prison for not obtaining coverage. I am deadset against that.

Jesus christ dude, do you refuse to educate yourself on anything and just pull all your information from drudge?

You made the claim that you would be taxed eventhough your employer already provides you with health insurance. This is a total lie. You then said you will be forced to go with the government option, again this is a total lie. In fact as this bill stands since you just admitted you already have health insurance from your employer you will be in no way affected by this bill financially.

And you can not be forced in to prison for not obtaining covereage, jesus ****ing christ. You can be put in prison for evading taxes (although anyone going to jail for not paying taxes is extremely rare). Congress raises taxes all the time, this is nothing new. And if they raise your taxes the IRS doesn't like you evading them.

The reason they tax you if you refuse to get coverage is extremely simple. They will give affordibility credits to anyone making under 40,000 a year. Anyone making over 40,000 a year that doesn't already have insurance (very small amount) will have their taxes increased by 2.5%. The reason for this is that someone that makes over 40,000 a year and still refuses to buy insurance does so not because they can't afford it but does so because they simply don't want to pay. And as a result of that they are a burden on the system. 2.5% of 40,000 /yr is about $80 a month.

Taxes are a creation of the Obama administration. They never existed before.

So's the IRS. It's because he's a pinko commie muslim fascist.
