Cause certain people hate freedom. And no, i'm not talking about terrorists.

There's hundreds of millions of people out there, and more, that laugh at the thought of freedom.

Well, the fact is, people don't turn into salt. But the Bible says it happened.

Their religion might say that pigs are bad, what of it?

Catholics only eat fish on Fridays, I think. The fact is, it's okay to eat meat on Fridays or any other day of the week.

Bottom line, it's their religion, accept that.

Catholic's abstain from eating meat on friday as a small sacrifice. Reason it's friday is because Jesus was crucified on a friday.

:upstare: ...that's sounds like a rehearsed soundbite raziaar ..laugh at freedom, that's just idiotic. who wouldnt want freedom? They may not care about your freedom but they certainly care about their own

:upstare: ...you sound like a zombie spouting meaningless drivel ..laugh at freedom, that's just idiotic. who wouldnt want freedom? They may not care about your freedom but they certainly care about their own

I've heard so many people say that freedom is an idiotic dream.

who what where when?

i think you're misinterpreting that into "freedom is idiotic" when they're saying that freedom, true freedom is unatainable

Well true freedom of course is unattainable at this time... but no, thats not what I mean, they mock people for trying to achieve freedom for themselves, and for others.

And no, this doesnt have anything to do with "war" talk.

And as far as to who they were, i'm talking about people i've talked to about politics, random people. People online, people in real life. Websites i've visited. General experience. Not any particulars you might know of.

what exactly does that mean? are they in an abusive relationship? are they in jail? we all have the same rights and freedoms (respective to our place of origin)

and what do these "random" people say? "freedom is evil? tyranny is better"?

websites I can relate to ...show me da websites

and what do these "random" people say? "freedom is evil? tyranny is better"?

No dude, they say things like "Freedom is for suckers", or "The fools and their freedom"

Actually Stern in political discourse (actually more often I encounter this in face to face conversation than on the internet too) some people are for far greater controls and less freedom (politically anyway) When the system fumbles up and there's a lot of bickering, people start to want someone to step up. It's not good to have that but it's the logic to why they're saying it. I definately don't agree, but more people than you'd think, definately not a majority but not some random lunatics either, are against freedom.

I'm quite liberal myself but I find that stupid. This PC shit pisses me off. The fact that you're offended by a cartoon pig because of religious beliefs doesn't make it any less ****ing rediculous. People are retarded. :|

but what does "against freedom" mean? do they want to be locked away? do they want to be ruled by a tyrant?

this is ridiculous. People will find anything to be offended about. Well screw that. i say they should suck it up.

As far as I know, nobody was force feeding them pork or pushing piggy figurines in their faces. Banning stuff whenever some one gets offended is the fastest route to having a completely dead society.

Lets just all imagine a nice happy world where no one is ever offended and nearly everything is banned. Boy, that'd be a fun place wouldn't it?

Like the south park where they had 'winter festival' all dressed in dull gray colors spinning saying "happy, happy, happy. everybody happy." Because each protesting group had one aspect of the thing removed/banned. lol

Look on the bright side, you could capitalise on this by betting on what's going to be banned next.

I'm off down Ladbrokes.

Banning happiness 1:15 odds, but I'm tipped it's a sure winner.

I totally agree with this action.

To a Muslim a Pig is forbinnen, in there eyes to eat one is evil.

In the past Muslims have had pig meat smeared on there faces becuase of this, and how it disgusts them.

So openly displaying pigs infront of them isn't very nice.

Well at least there'll still be the underground ring of gambling, piggies and happiness.

Yeah but no but yeah but no but it's ridiculous.

It's all very well to preach that we should respect their culture and their religion - they don't like pigs? Fine. Unfortunately for them, since this isn't a Muslim majority country, they should respect our culture, which sees pigs as not at all evil and actually quite cute.

Why should we pander to them on the grounds of 'tolerance' when they can't even bear the sight of a cartoon pig? That's not very tolerant of our culture. Some of the things that happen in Muslim majority countries offend me but I wouldn't go there and ask for them to be banned in the workplace.

I agree with that, I just couldn't articulate it in a none flamey kind of way so I kept silent.

what about television commercials for a sandwich with bacon?

or some kind of ham, pork chop...will the company be sued or banned?

The problem here is the idea that they should respect our culture.
There beliefs are JUST as important as ours and should earn the same respect.
Muslims never asked for this action, and I'm sure they never would have. But its just a sign of kindness, its called respect, thats what the councils do they work for the people, and people should be made to feel as calm as possible in thoose offices.

Its just a freindly gesture to Muslims, we respect your beliefs, come and work for the council and make us more represntative.

I got the wrong end of the stick and thought some muslims had complained. Well it's still ridiculous for the same reasons. We shouldn't have to bother doing it. Political correctness gone mad, wheee!

It maybe a bit ott.

We had the same problem organising the Youth Council buffe, for a large meeting.

The problem was whether to server pork, as well as halal meat and everything else. At first I thought why not, the Muslims can eat Halal meat if they wish, and people who like pork can have pork.

Then we learnt how some people would feel sick after just seeing pork on the table, it would put alot of Muslims off there apetite,we were under no obligation to not server pork, but we did it anyway to make people feel more comfatable.

Its a similar situation with similar reasons.

It looks like Muslims did request this.
Either way I agree, its about toloerance of peoples belief. No-ones saying pork should be banned as well as pig toys, just not openly flaunted infront of people who find it sickening.

It wasn't openly flaunted, it was a tissue box, a stuffed toy, some piggies in a window sill. In western culture it is NOT disgusting, and they need to realize that and be tolerant of the west if they're here.

It'd be fair enough for Muslims to request it if they felt we were somehow glorifying pigs with gigantic 'love pigs' posters all over the walls. But it wasn't like that.

Lets look at the source of this thing:

The Sun.

Nuff said? We can't really divuluge into what was actually displayed as the Sun is just right wing propaganda.

Yeah, the fact is that the office was in no way saying "I <3 pigs". It was just a display, and the fact is, the existing culture of the land should not be eroded so much just because a few people are offended. If they're offended by something that much, they're the intolerant ones who should maybe seek employment somewhere else.

I hate it how becuase there a minority people regard there culture as inferior.

Plastic Pigs are not a part of our culture, there just a small item made by a sweatshop in china, we don't care if there there or not.

Were not seeing the full picture, maybe one of the Muslims actually asked some co-workers, not to display the pigs, in a nice matter. And was met with a hostile, possibly racist responce, we just don't know, becuase we can trust the Sun not to give a full picture.

Imagine going to work 5 days a week, and every time on the way to your desk seing objects that disgust you, its just not very nice. Removing them from that particular workplace, is just about respecting the wishes of people who share the same building.

one talked about banning scarfs for muslim women and that he/she though it's a must and musslims are angry for it because of nothing, howcome jews could wear those hats they have in schools or universities? and christians could wear crosses, isn't that like scarfs for muslim women? it represents religions doesn't it?
about the pig thing, do you know that when a pig wants to mate, it lets all of he's "friends" have intercourse with the female and then he f*cks her? do you know pigs eat their own sh*t? just because they could live in a clean place, it doesn't mean they are... all of you possibly know that when a pig is real hungry, it would even eat human meat... now how could i eat that?
i've bolded the "i" so that it only prefers to me, i don't care or blame anyone for eating pork, not that i could or should, but personally, i don't eat pig.
and yes if you've wondered, i'm a muslim.

EDIT: i like solaris' way of thinkin' and i am just talking about why muslims don't eat pork and it's forbidden in islam. nothing to do with the plastic pigs and one more thing, are pigs a part of they're culture?

Exactly,
I thanks for clarifying, I wasn't sure about the pig issue.

Am I right in beliving some Muslims would find Plastic Pigs distugsting, or just unappetising?

I'll sum up what I think:

- we're not muslims. Therefore, we shouldn't have to conform to Muslim rules.

Example: just because they think women should wear head thingies, doesn't mean we all should. Likewise, they shouldn't have to conform to Christian rules.

Nobody should have to conform to any rules that are based not on morality or common sense but on arbitrary prinicples as part of a religion that exist for no real purpose.

edit: How can pigs be disgusting and unclean? They're animals, man. Besides half the things you say about them are because we, humans, domesticate them and keep them in small pens and fatten them up and so on and so forth.

edit2: I'm not trying to undermine religious beliefs thar. If you don't want to eat pigs don't eat it - I just disagree with enforcing that rule of yours on everyone else who is not a muslim (which is essentially what's happening here).

We dont all find the word f**k offensive.

But if I did this

F**K YOU

Without the asterics I would be in trouble.

I wouldn't mind all that much personally.

Fuck! Tee-hee!

What's your point anyway? That all this pig stuff is being shoved in the face of Muslims?

Exactly.

Its just showing respect, that the Muslims fellow workers, wern't willing to do.

But as far as I can tell...absolutely nothing is being shoved in their face. It'd be fair enough, like I said, if the company's logo is a pig, or if the screensavers on every computer were animations of pigs, or so on. But we're talking about calendars, tissue boxes, maybe soft toys - things that are easily avoidable and don't immediately attract attention.

If I was working there, I'd be annoyed. Not because I give a shit about having a piggy celandar. But because I'm having the views and rules of a religion that I'm not part of enforced on me.

Again how do we know thats what happened.

Its the Sun ffs.

It would be one thing if the muslim coworkers politely requested the removal of the pig related items. That would not be a problem.

But to call for a ban, that is just called assholery and rude
