What do you guys think about this? Is it immoral? Would you/have you, do it becuase of DRM? Does that justify it more?

What effects do you think piracy has? Some companies I would never pirate. I own a couple of steam accounts with HL2 on it and other games, a company like valve I could never pirate. But I wouldn't bat an eyelid at 'stealing' an EA game. I hate those guys. They refuse to adopt a modern model and they'll never be able to defeat piracy.

Imo, steam and free games with adverts is the future.

everyone does it.its just like that are you a virgin thread.Everyone said that they are not virgins but they are.Btw,my mass effect i pirated.DRM IS DOING THE SUCKING

I've never pirated. I don't play a whole lot of games, so I might as well pay for them.

Unless you count borrowing CDs and ripping them, no.

No, I've never pirated in my life, my 1k gb of harddrive space is all filled with legally obtained music, movies, TV shows, games and porn. I swear it, big nice government men who are monitoring me. It's aaaaaaall nice and legal.

I recently pirated a game that I was unable to find after weeks of research in stores and on the internet. As for DRM, I am against it but it's not the evil of the world. The installation limit is normally removed after some time (Bioshock docet) and a good game is still a good game. So, no panic for me. I will keep supporting PC gaming with my money until the DRM doesn't harm my PC (as Starforce did in the past).

cool.BTW,tommorow ill get legit Spore and when RA3 Comes out ill pirate it just because they are going easy with DRM there :D lol kidding :D

This. Only i never buy stuff.

It's all bounty arr.

Exept for half life.

Stealing is only acceptable if you're doing it. If someone else is stealing from you then it isn't.

Oh I make a joke about using the torrent stick, and its gets edited and you guys get away with a thread on the subject.

Bullshit.

FRA ser dig!!!

But yeah everyone pirates.

Reasons one doesn't do it: rich, doesn't want to get what they want when they want ('moral').

If it wasn't for the interwebs piracy people would still be buying badly dubbed dvds from chinamen on the streets who would con you with crappy quality films.

TBH, I'm not a massive anti-corporation fanatatic or anything, but (music and film wise) I think piracy is a fair way of getting back at the companies for the ridiculous amounts of value-added pricing they do. I mean CD's are a prime example, used to be what...20 quid for a new album? Ridiculous, their costs are not that high at all that prices need to be that much.

Piracy has helped us ultimitely, pound for a CD on itunes or couple of quid for an album is reasonable enough.

Games-wise, I'm not sure...everybody does it, I do, every I know does. Could take the moral highground and say its wrong, which obviously it is, but its just so dam conveniant. Why should I care even these multi-billion pound industries lose some money, not like they're going bankrupt jeez.

Saying that, I'll always pay for a game I want (cliche blah, blah) but I will. All games companies should just forget about the anti-piracy crap cos its pointless, if someone wants a game for free then they'll get it. Instead...they should just offer advantages to those that pay, eg updates, online play obviously, etc. etc.

But yeh just my opinion on this matter.

I have tried but my inner conscience got the best of me. :frown:

Are we allowed to have a topic like this after Evo's new sticky post?

It's discussing the ethics of piracy so I'd assume that is a yes. As long as you aren't saying, "Hey, I pirated ***** game last night!!" Then you will be fine.

You can never judge anything from a demo, tbh. Sometimes I buy a game, and I pawn it or sell it, then keep the content on my pc/burn it.

As for cracks, I crack every game I own regardless of if I payed or not, I hate having to put the CD in, it's completely stupid, I don't want my CD to get ****ed up because I play the game, Valve has a good system for this.

I have a few companies that I will always buy from, Valve being one. EA and those shitty devs I tend to try before I buy, as they tend to churn out alot of shit.

I bought Assassin's Creed this week, cause its cheaper now and it's a good game.

I haven't read this thread yet for YOUR poor sakes, but Munro has been very clear that admitting to piracy is not only infractionable but potentially a PERMABAN, so keep that in mind before you do anything stupid.

:O Thanks Evo!

Although I don't think Ennui would ever ban me, I'm just so lovable and awesome no one could ban me. It's like I'm so cool I'm immune to being banned.

Although... I still need an infraction from Ennui to complete my infraction-mod list.. Nah.. There's still the risk of being banned.. One day, Ennui. One day.

Unless a games abandon ware I can't honestly see any justification for game piracy. Unlike stealing a TV show, a film, an album or even an application, the odds of the producer ever seeing an actual financial return in some form later from the pirate (DVD purchase, etc etc)is pretty unlikely tbh. Once you've played a pirated game what are the odds your going to play it again, let alone go out and purchase it to play it? None to middling I suspect. Where as with TV, Films etc, if it's something you enjoy you might well be tempted to.

I really don't pirate games. I like to support the developers.
However, I have no qualms about downloading a crack if DRM becomes an issue to me.

I think all the publishers should switch to Steam for their DRM :D

Evo, last night, I pirated your mother. I pirated her goooood.

Good on ya :D

Steam ain't all it is cracked up to be really, I prefer Impulse, just wish it had more games on there.

I was infracted for the offence of admitting to piracy by the supreme leader Evo, which was a heroic enforcement of his recent dictat. The offending thread title 'I admit to piracy' was changed to Piracy discussion.

I'd like to point out, in order to avoid Evo's wrath that this post is not admission of piracy, in the same way that saying you have been convicted of a crime, is not an admission of guilt.

I cannot help but wonder however just how far the boundaries can be pushed, before passive hypothetical or satrical postings, such as me copying Ova's infamous 'I stole steam accounts' become bannable offences. So I will avoid making statements such as 'I torrented spore' or 'I have stalker downloading right now' as these would violate the rules. I say these statements as mere examples to other users as what not to say, I stateing in BOLD that, oh for example, "I illegally pirate software" would be an unforgiveable and bannable offence. And rightly so.

I for one, support evos purge of the forum for pirates. I implore guilty members to confese and take their bannings and to be thankful to the dear leader for helping to correct us.

Long live Evo, Death to piracy and all those who commit it.

Never forgive, never forget!! Thank you for my infraction and allowing me to fix my ways.
