Okay, today I saw a car with a license plate saying VETERAN, it had poppies and a dramatic graphic of a soldier on it, and it got me thinking... why the hell does Canada get more recognition for fighting in WW2 than Poland? Even the creators of Call of Duty think Poland was fighting on a lesser scale than Canada (or even to). Contrary to popular belief, Poland was the fourth largest army in the war, it did not get taken over because it was merely weak... it was attacked by the 2 largest armies in the world at the SAME TIME. Poland knew it was going to be invaded by Germany, and so did England and France. Russia went in from behind when Germany occupied Poland, telling people they were fighting for Poland, which was a lie. That just led to 20 years of communism.

We were abandoned before the war even started. Before the invasion, Poland wanted to buy a large amount of planes from England, which of course, England rejected. England and France didn't even declare war on Germany until 2 days after it invaded Poland, and it took a shitload longer for them to DO something about it. Good job on glorifying the war to the point where no one remembers THAT.

It took Germany 400 million bullets, 50 million artillery shells, and 70 thousand bombs to take over Poland. Less than half of that was spent on France. The Polish armored cavalry was one of the most feared armies during the war and Poland even had the largest/longest/most devastating uprising in the history of mankind. 1 million people died in Warsaw during (I think) 2 weeks of battle.

I always hear about remembrance parades/ceremonies going on in the US, Canada, England, Russia, and various other countries, but, I never - never - hear anything about Poland. Also, whenever there's a discussion of WW2 at my school, everyone looks at me and says Poland got "pwnt", or had an army made up of horses, or was just shitty in general. The ****ing Italians are proud of themselves yelling "woo ITALY!!" even though they JOINED the Germans.

I'm probably the only one who gives a shit, but damn, someone could atleast acknowledge the fact that we at least resisted SOMETHING during WW2. :|

I may find this post to be stupid in the morning, but right now it makes sense. :p

Only the ignorant would say Poland got owned during ww2, France were the ones that surrendered while Poland still fought on.

Poland Rocks. All the allied countries/friends of the allied countries, no matter how big or small of a contributed effort to stop the axis, deserve praise.

Didn't France get invaded via neutral Belgium? As per usual.

Poland played no small part in the war - indeed, the invasion of it was the reason the UK and France declared war on Germany.

In my school we are taught that Poland got invaded but we don't hear - Poland resisted the Germans attack that much and this much etc. So I see your point. Although now I know how rock on the Polish were.

Poland's legendary. My grandpa (God rest his soul) saw his country get invaded by Nazis, and he was too young to join the Polish army, and so he lied about his age. Then Poland started losing. But my grandpa was like "Hell naw!" and joined the British Army to keep the fight going.

Poland = Legend. I'm well proud of my Polish heritage.

AL, that's awesome. Everyone in the world spiritually owes your grandpa a beer.

A lot of what i have learnt in school and from movies is that there were members of the Polish armed forces that managed to get out and continued fighting with the British army and airforce and navy.

Well its a fairly well known fact that Polish pilots stationed in the UK after the fall of Poland and France were some of the best pilots in the RAF. They were also know for there iron will and daring flying.

Hell the polish 303 squadron was pretty much the best.

And the Free French weren't slouches either.

My grandpa was a legend. Hell, he even died heroicly. He worked in a foundry after the war, and a huge vat of molten metal cracked, and burnt the hell out of him - he was covered in third degree burns from head to foot. So, he was there in hospital, getting treated, and after a month or so, the doctors said "No, you're not well enough to leave the bed yet" and he was like "F*ck you, I'm going back to work!". Sadly, he died soon after, as his heart gave way under the strain. My grandpa was a hero throughout his life.

The thing is with Poland, and most Eastern European nations, is that Russia is there version of America(but without the good parts). Basically Poland has been made fun of by Russia for the last 100 years, and most intellectuals eat up any of the shit Russia says about Poland or anyone there. Example:

There has been a claim that there were Polish calvary units going against German Panzer divisions. While this may seem stupid (horse+tanks=fresh meat), it actually worked pretty well. The Russian view of events is that the calvary charged the Panzers head on, yet in reality they attacked from the flanks, and with anti-tank weaponry. These were mostly hit and run things, meant to delay the enemy advance, and it worked 80%. They used what they could.

2ndly, Polish airmen helped a lot in the battle of Britan, acting as rear guard for British squadrons. Sadly the Brits also listened to the Russians, and thought the Polish guys could barely fly.

Polish army units fought in Africa too, and sadly the Allies shafted them by handing Poland over to the Russians, along with the Polish army groups that fought with the Allies, which were then taken to Siberia.

Btw, im Ukrainian, between Ukraine, Poland, and Russia, theres a ong history of hate for eachother, and me to be giving props like this is just to show how much of an ass Russia was during this whole mess.

Bah, the Polish side of my family has no beef with Ukraine. However, my Nan and Mom aren't really keen on Russia.

It's good to see you're not the only one "giving a shit" :)

I'm Polish as well so obviously I know my country's history better than any other's. Luckily, we can now learn the proper history, not the Russian (or rather USSR) version of it.

From what we can see nowadays, Russia hasn't changed much.

BTW: Some time ago I looked up the term "Marines" in an old Polish Encyclopedia from the "commie days". In translation it would be something like that: Marines - American armed forces used for imperialistic intervention.

Poland is the manliest place on earth. They're a tough bunch over there....Poland has managed to come out on top after hundreds of years of war and occupation....poland was even chopped out of the map of europe many times in the 1800's, and they still managed to exist. What men!

If Poland is so great why is everyone moving from there to Ireland?

Because our economical situation is poor.

But yet, I've never seen any decent Polish man have something like that. No one walks around going like "I FOUGHT IN THE WAR d00D!!". No-one in Canada knows what Poland really is, and they think they're tough because they were considered part of the English army (or the UK army :p), so I'm assuming a lot of other people are like that too.

Man, I have a great Polish Girl Friend, damn, what a blast with that girl, really really down to earth girl, I wish all girls would be like that. Cool people I must say the polish. The only think I know about polish is Chekay ( wait I thik it means)

What? What the **** is coperate. What the **** does that have anything to do with this thread. Why the **** are you even here.

I didn't know Poland was such a fighter in WW2. I do know however, that the US Special Forces don't go anywhere without Polish Special Forces.

canadian troops fought with the british as well ..even though thousands died fighting in europe, canadians are always overlooked ...when's the last time you played as a canadian soldier in a ww2 game? or seen a (recent) movie with canadians fighting in ww2?

guys lets not get into a fight of which country got forgotten more in WW2. Anyway you slice Canada and Poland and all the other countries that heeded the call kicked ass.

Poland is fantastic, you can go there and the customs guys ask you why you have so much money for three days when you take £250.

As for their contibution to the war effort, like that of the Free French, the Norwegens, Duch, Belgians, etc it was heroic. Their homelands were occupeid and yet the fought on alongside the Allies. They were part of the core of allied armed forces in the darkest days of the war when the only nation free of the Nazis was Britian.

Also, the efforts of the Empire & Commonwealth nations and the Kingdom of Nepal (Becuase despite the fact that they supply Gurkahs for the british army they are part of neither the Empire or the Commonwealth) Cannot be underestimated. The operations that the ANZACs conducted in Africa and the jungles of asia were crusial, The Indian forces as well as many others played key roles in the conflict.

DEIM ME LODA!

if you know polish, im sorry for the spelling.

But they pinned down 60% of the German military so you Canadians could say you beat the Germans in France. :dork:

That doesn't matter.

I mean, ignoring all the stalin bullshit...

Russia was ****ing awesome in the war. Even though the nazi's were trying to commit genocide on the russian's as they invaded, Russia just fought on and on and kept pushing back the germans. They lost alot of people, but they also faced serious, SERIOUS challenges. They contributed a hell of a lot to the fall of nazi germany, and deserve as much respect as the rest of the allies for the war.

it took germany 90 minutes to destoy their Airforce and I think the whole campain took a month, none the less their was always a fighting restiance, and yes they deserved to be praised.

PS: I find it funny no one mentions Russias part of the invasion.

I find it funny you're watching everyone's posts like a ****ing HAWK. Anyone who read a 9th grade history book knows that Russia pushed back Germany's eastern front and took Berlin, get off your history-know-it-all pedestal and stop pretending you're on some moral highground.

Edit - And yeah, the post above yours?

Russia's prowess and contribution to the war against Germany isn't negated by what you think.
