Portal Update - Hidden achievement & Viral Riddles [Updated]

We might as well speculate. You're just trying to kill all of our hopes and dreams before Valve does it.

Stop trying to be Valve, Pi.

Speculate all you like. Go ahead. Completely make stuff up, and then be utterly disappointed when they don't come to pass. Become incandescent with rage because Valve didn't live up to whatever ridiculous expectation you made up.
Then do it somewhere else, because I'll ban anyone that does it here.

You just don't know the truth Pi. When Valve release Episode 3, Portal 2, CSS 2and Ricochet 2.5, you will be so wrong it's not even funny! I'll be laughing and you'll be like "wow, didn't see THAT coming!"

So yeah! If I'm getting my hopes up, stop getting your hopes DOWN, Pi!

A new Orange Box with Portal 2 + Ep3, after three years, is not a ridiculous expectation, don't you think? ;) And the enhancements for HL2 are already out there for XBox 360, no heavy work required, in my opinion.
Anyway, I never go mad about videogames. What will be, will be.

I just went back over all the images etc, it's definitely day of defeat source 2.

Except it is an unrealistic expectation. The Orange Box came about because of the vast coincidence of three projects coming to completion within the same approximate timescale.
Valve, as they have repeatedly proven, can't manage deadlines if their lives depended on it. So the likelihood of them managing several projects from concept to completion with the intention of them all finishing at the same time is...ludicrous. Not to mention the fact that they are only showing one game - Portal. No specific mention of anything else.

In a way, it kind of sucks to be Valve. They managed to create the Orange Box, one of the best value game packages ever. Instead of people being thankful for this, they want the same thing again. I despair.

So yes, another Orange Box is a ridiculous expectation.

Can't say I completely disagree on that last point. Though I think a Black Box with 2 games would be awesome somehow. But such a thing would prove that Valve does have some time management skills.

If they relate Portal 2 and Episode 3 together, there would an amount of issues in regards to story. Since they're already inclined in being set in the same world, there will be a need on having a completely different ending, otherwise playing one may spoil the other game. There are ways to work around this, but I doubt Valve is looking to reiterate on the link.
It'll have to remain as is, a small reference in either games to make fans smile and feel tingly. Having an update for Portal that reveals some more views on the game can't, in its entirety, relate to episode 3 what-so-ever. Having the games conjoin would be a big mistake.

We are not talking about full-length games. Portal and Episode 2 were short. Nice but short. If Portal 2 and Episode 3 are on the same league, well, three years should be enough for both of them. Remember that Valve talked about a teaser for Ep3 at the end of 2008. In my opinion, all the delay is due to a new game pack.

Well if it's one promise Valve failed to keep, it's having shorter games released in shorter intervals. I can't say I'm disappointed by this broken promise though, Valve is one of two companies I know (the other being Blizzard) who take as much time as they need to release a game as flawless as it can be.

I'm really interested as to what factor is causing such a long production time for EP3. Hopefully, it isn't a lack of employee distribution towards EP3 but instead an improvement in gameplay length or graphics.

Hopefully long enough so that it's not even worthy of being called an episode :)

Valve and Blizzard
flawless games
This is what some people actually believe.

Also, I went back a couple pages, even ran a search...no one's talking about the fact that Portal 2 takes place hundreds of years later?

Nobody's talking about Wheatley? Jeez I even searched the Portal forum.

Y'all are slow.

Boy you know I just saw them scans of that magazine talkin all about that shit. Says it's gonna have co-op.

Co-op ROBOTS, man. Co-op robots.

Also, just something I think Pi might have a good laugh about in the faces of a lot of people here, people wishing for another Orange Box and arguing with him about it being an "unrealistic expectation"; Portal was put into the Orange Box not, as Pi said, "because of the vast coincidence of three projects coming to completion within the same approximate timescale," but because Valve didn't want to take a gamble on Portal being profitable so they just threw it in with two other games so it would make sales.

Being that Portal was found to be a successful title the likelihood of it being released in another bundle rather than as a standalone game is ridiculously small. Like, teeny tiny.

Enjoy your full-price standalone game.

The same place I get all my information: magical dreamtime fairies flutter into my room and whisper their delicate secrets in my ears as I sleep. They always slam the window on their way out, jolting me into consciousness, with the unshakable urge to spread their tidings on the internet.

I read a magazine, man.

Oh man, I will do. Portal was a little gem. Now I have high hopes for something epic.

EDIT: but I still see a bundle P2+Ep3 coming. Call me a dreamer.

You're a bit late to the party. The ARG ended with the announcement of Portal 2. If you want to see the details of what all the clues were here's a wiki:
