If we believe this Gabe, HL2 will be send to VU in probably 3 weeks. So that will be August. VU need to test the RC version (probably another 2 weeks) Then we already are in September! Gabe mentioned that CS: S Beta will be tested (wich will be shipped the same time as hl2) in late summer! Late summer could mean at earliest till the end of August!
Community playing the beta, Valve need to fixing stuff and bugs etc. , could take up another 4 weeks! Then we already are till the end of September! Don't forget they need to burn alot of copies and handle other stuff! I personally don't think they make it before Fall

Yes, this is wishful thinking, and I have zero evidence to back this up, but since Valve wants to release *:S at the same time as HL2, and since HL2 is getting to RC stage, it doesn't make sense to delay any public betas longer than absolutely necessary.

well, the current state of CS:S was shown in korea, there was missing animations, models and all the rest of it. I think they have allot of work to do, even before a Beta Stage.

lol guys... come on. Im not saying I don't like valve because I do. They make great games, but I really don't think this is actually going to happen. They say things like this often they told us the sdk was coming out before e3. Hell they haven't even posted any of the e3 information they said they would on there web site. It's like gave said, they are just to ambitiouse for their own good. And has any one even confirmed this was an email actually from gabe?

The point is, why are we debating this? It could come out anytime. Knowing the release date now isn't going to do anything is it? All people are doing is setting themselves up again for another date that could be potentially missed. Giving themselves another reason to get upset with Valve or Vivendi or whoever else stands between them and their lifelong dream game. Seems like an excercise of futility but to each their own.

I'm not being negative about this in the least, but there is too much time between now and then and there seems to be a number of things which must be completed:
To name the two top things I guess : CS:source beta, RC to VU which may or may not be turned down. Gabe states it often takes more than one RC before one goes gold and we aren't 100% sure of what testing VU does...how long would it take to test just one RC? What if it takes 2-3 before they name it "good to go"?
And obviously Valve are still tweaking and bug squashing right now, but that's 3 more weeks of that. I doubt there would be anything major popping up at this stage of the game, but there still might be little things here and there which might add up over time. And what of bugs in CS:source which will be found in the beta testing?
I hope everything goes according to plan, but I really can't get too excited until the time frame starts to narrow. Obviously we're getting close, but there is still a chance little things may push it a week or two or three or more.
But it will come and it's getting closer and that's all that matters...I can wait

Gabe acts different about the statement regarding the release. He says JULY 30th and Lombardi says RC to VU in August.

This thread is simply about saying the game will be finished. When it's in Vivendi's hands i'll feel much more comfort than knowing Valve are still playing with it.Fishlore said:

The whole tone of my first post was based around the "BEST CASE SCENARIO". Now i'm all too aware that dates Valve employees give out are bs dates 80% of the time but i thought for once it would be good to think about things with an optimistic viewpoint.
The best case scenario, which we're all hoping for is thus
1. Valve actually meet the July 30th deadline.
2. Vivendi only need 2 weeks testing, they find no major bugs. Nothing that needs to be changed.
3. Game goes gold because Vivendi/Valve see so major reason to delay it another month. Yes minor bugs will exist but steam will fix that.
THAT'S THE BEST CASE SCENARIO!!
Not-so-best-case-scenarios have been mentioned by many other guys in this thread. It's probably more realistic....but hey.
I remember when they said this game would be releaced september 30th I didn't care back then because my computer was not good enough to run it on. And they delayed it. omg if that hapend now I would be so upset. I wonder how you guys felt when it was delayed last year.

I'm sticking by my November estimate, but if you're lucky you'll see it in October. I base that on absolutely nothing except Valve's appalling track record. Some of us have learned....

Well it was confirmed that CS:S is shipping with Half Life 2. Considering CS:S is only going into beta stages soon (who really knows when), and also considering the stage CS:S was at recently when some dude got to play it, I am confident that my release estiamte is accurate and Valve is screwing us with a fake release date again.
