Praise be for HL2 single player!

Anyone else here completely disinterested in the 'news' about the lack of a HL2dm? From the interview it looks like HL2 may well be the single player game we all hoped for and 'more' and people have the audacity to bitch and whine about the lack of a HL2DM. Its the single player portion of the game that I desperately want to get my hands on as its the sequel to what is probably my favourite game ever.

Is anyone else like me in that they couldnt give a damn about HL2 MP (other than mods) and are buying the game mostly for the single player?

I hardly ever touched HL deathmatch, so I dont give a crap. But some do apparantly, which surprises me as there were never that many servers for it running unless im remembering incorrectly. I guarantee that it's the singleplayer that 99% of us are excited about.

i wholehartedly agree. i see why hldm fans are upset, but it seems as though everyone skimmed past the part where he said it was more than he expected. nothing but good can come of this game, and im sure we'll be playing some incredibly fun multiplayer within 2 months of its release. trust me, this anger will pass over once we do see an incredibly fun, original online game with source. and rocket boots.

Theres a reason that CS is the most played online game ever. I'm very happy that I'm getting CSS and even happier Im getting HL2.

HL2 single player will be very cool, but one of the reasons hl1 lasted so long for me at least, apart from afew mods that came out years after it was released, was playing DM. Im not interested in CSS so HL2 wont have much playtime for me, once im done with SP, im done.

I was hoping there would be DM, but not to the point where I totally ignored the fact that the PCG reviewer says HL2 is more than he ever hoped for. Remember, mods are what made HL1 last so long, and it's going to be mods that make HL2 last so long.

Yeah, probably, but with no HL2DM, no HL2DM maps, so if they got it to work, it would feature the old DM maps....
I am usually not such a big fan of DM, but HL's DM was ... different.
It all felt like you were trying to outsmart you opponent with your clever traps or cool moves, instead of mindlessly running around.

Yeah I know how you feel, HLDM was the first online MP game I played, in the FPS genre that is. I remember downloading player models & maps every now and then, it was great in the beginning

I never quite mastered the gauss-jump/crossbow stunts though hehe.

I can see what VALVe is thinking in this move, as CS:S is a better multiplayer game then any DM or TDM. I just had hoped for a HL² themed multiplayer and think it bogus that there isn't one, but it's not a deal breaker. I'm not a hugh fan of CS but CS:S was little more fun (mostly for the phyics) so I'll just have to wait for DoD:S to be released then I'll be happy.

The point is, VALVe know that someone with to much time on their hands will make a really good MP like Combine vs rebels, it would be really great.

I just really need to know how long HL2 is going to be,
because in one of the preloads theres a folder called levels and there are only 5 or 6.

you could do it without the SDK, but it will be a _lot_ more work.

to me a game is just as much about mp as it is sp, inmost cases i play mp more than sp

I only want it for its SP, HLdm sucked and still does and took less skill than CS to play and was more run and gun than CS ever was so i see why Valve decided to add the worlds most popular multiplayer game to HL2 instead of an unplayed (pretty much) multiplayer game.

I didnt ask for CS:S and what other stuff they added.
I'm talking HL2 here, and the fact that HL2DM is missing makes me say valve made a bad move.
Because they throw in extra material doesnt imply it's automatically ok to leave out other parts.

I would rather have made that choice myself after playing both CS:S and HL2DM.
