Predicted Half Life 2 reviews

Hmm, asking this question on a HL2 forum is like asking who will win the world cup in an English Pub.

Most people would say, Brazil ;)

Predicting reviews? This is just getting sad.

Hmmm, 1.7 thousand posts is getting a bit sad also I would say. Dont criticise me for wanting to go deeper into my discussion of HL2, especially when you seem to want to discuss it so much.

Your right. You've made me realize I have no life. My only selfworth comes from posting on internet forums. I think I'll go kill myself now.

Thank, wise and mighty person who has a life! Thank you so much for making me see the light.

I dont judge my reputation on a forum. I have a life, which many of you dont.

Good for you. Do you feel much better now?

hmm if i have no life, i must be dead. or maybe im just a headcrabbed zombie.

- HL/2 pre-load will begin tomorrow. It was ready yesterday, but we decided to use the bandwidth to get out the VST first since I get pelted with zillions of questions from people asking how their PC will run Half-Life 2.

... :bonce:

Kristafon, their is a distinct difference between speculation(which is based upon a foundation of fact) and pure bull-shit. You sport the latter.

I countered every point of yours and you fail to ackowledge this. Not only that, you state how reputation on a forum is pointless in judging a person. You are just plain wrong in that respect. We have all witnessed a huge chunk of your thought-process in regards to Half-Life 2 and that says alot. You like to wrap bull-shit around your biased opinionated statements which inturn represents pure ignorance. It is pretty simple, opinions should be back-up with fact. If you cannot comprehend that simple notion or do not want to conform to this standard, please leave.

Half-Life 2 blows FarCry and DoomIII away in the graphics area. FC & D3's characters looked way to plastic like and didn't have any variation in character textures.

Ok sonny - they aren't amazing - but you are going a bit overboard, they are not 3 year old POS.

Graphical ratings consist of:

Animation
Shadowing/lighting techniques
Special effects
Quality
Art direction

Half-life 2's animation is way more realistic than any game produced thus far bythe unreal 2 engine. The lip synching and facial expression tech is still unmatched, even if the source engine is an year old. That I can confidently say by looking at the videos alone.

Shadowing and lighting are source's weak area - but we still aren't aware of it's full capabilities.

Special effects - Theseinclude shader effects and small neat effects like reflectivity and so on. Every small thing is considered here, and source does it's job well - just look at the neat specularity and dust effects in de_dust alone.

Quality - this area covers attention to detail. Easily, source has the very crisp textures - just look at the trainstation and apartment vids for proof. High poly models, which while don't use extensive normal mapping still look extremely good - the textures on faces themselves are around 1024x1024 - look at the G-man model for example: you can literally see pores on his face, and notice the gloss around his temple. This is kind of stuff you don't see in 3 year old engines.

Art Direction -

City 17's convincing gritty and eastern european look - apartmentswith a lived in feel, The combine citadel's design itself. Character design, concepts - everything looks very intriguing. Art direction is the most important factor in graphics and HL2 is very succesful at it.

Basically valve has pretty much done their homework with all of these things - and that is definately more than 8.5.

Since i'm sick of discussing the same topic over and over again. Why don't we all post the best in-game screenies of the games and allow our eyez to see the obvious? :p

its weird because the zillions of questions he was getting were from HL2 fans most likely, yet he didn't release the VST to them, but to CS:S beta testers. i don't see how that really helped the situation

If CS;S is any preview, the sound in HL2 will simply blow away the competition. :D

I'm getting sick of these cruddy threads when the GAME ISN'T EVEN OUT YET.
