Prepare for Hidden & Dangerous frustrations!

The game works brilliant on my computer (when it works). Sound is great. Graphics is nice. And i like the tactical shooters, BUT!
When i am close to finishing a level that i have worked VERY hard at doing it nice and neat, the game frickin`n hangs in the middle of a save. So all my hard work for the last couple of hours have gone completely down the trash! Because it corrupted my saved game files!

How (major profanity) frustrating is that? SO ... i got so mad that i uninstalled this crap. I cant do this. I cant! Cant take it anymore! I cant work so much and have the uncertainty hanging over me that i most probably will have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN!

Why in the (insert major profanity here) did`nt they allow you to save in slots? Slots for gods sake! Why must that be so frigging difficult. The creators have broken one of the 10 commandments. Don't force the player to restart the whole mission, especially if it takes allot of effort to complete it! Damn you! Damn you to hell!

And the controls on this thing. The defaults. Who in the (insert major profanity again) play games with this setup? Do they have 15 fingers? Custom made for this? Nobody except the creator of it does, i think. Everyone uses WSAD now, why? Because its the easiest and most streamlined configuration for most of the people gaming with keyboards in this world.

Don't make me let go of my mouse when playing a game. Make it simple. A jump from my mouse to the keyboard can mean the difference between winning or loosing a firefight. Thats one of the commandments too. Don't make the player let go of the mouse just to complete a command.

Why use a command for climbing? Climbing should be automatic!!! Thats just one example. So you have to go through th eobligatory custom your own setup. Bah! I mean, its ok. I do it with every game. Change a button here, a button there, but with this i reconfigured the whole damn stucture. With Max Payne 2 i only had to change 2 buttons. I love Remedy for that.

So... now that i have got this all out of my mind... SOD OFF! I'm going to the pub.

Left handed folk don't use WSAD, easier and more organised to use the arrow keys + the keys around them for other functions + mouse to move

arrow keys to move, left/right sidestepping
return - reload
space - use/activate (easier if you've got big hands)
backspace - drop weapon
shift - walk
ctrl - crouch
delete - lean left
end - previous weapon/quick change thing
page down - lean right
mouse1 - fire1
mouse2 - jump
mouse3 - alt fire

if im playing JK then the num keys on the right are used for force powers, get those with my lil pinky.. err i mean lil finger not, never mind



whats everyone elses key setups, curious now how many use WSAD or another method and if their right or left handed

I'm right handed. I used to use the arrow keys, until I realised that you could use the W, A, S, D key system.

I'm left handed, used to try use WSAD but it was too cramped (mouse and tablet is on the left under one monitor, keyboard on the right under the other monitor. Right handed people hate me using their computers cause I always have to change things over to use things properly. Same time though it keeps people off my setup, which is a bonus

Mouse forward = look down.

Is that inverted, or not? Can't remember.

this is bad.. i just had to load HL to check cause i couldn't remember haha

mouse forward - look up
mouse backward - look down

I tried the other way but its so engrained in me now that mouse up is look up i just get confused the other way, can be pretty funny in the middle of a fight or i try jumping over stuff, end up making a right balls of it

I always use "e" as my use key. It was f or something in CoD, so i changed it to "e". Alwyas use E!!!

E! ... are you crazy? Any game that has lean left or right in it. And given that you are right handed (sorry. didnt think of that one) you use this as the ultiumate setup (atleast for) me.

Q = lean left
E = lean right
F = Use, open doors, crates and shit.
LShift = Run, Walk
C = Crouch
X = Lie down
Z = Climb (Theres that climb thing)
Tab = Map
G = Grenade

Come to think of it:

I adapt to whatever controlls the game has usually, I like it basically like this though.

WASD - Forward, left, back, right
E - Use
LShift - walk
Ctrl - crouch
TAB - View multiplayer scores

anything else is fine.

Yeah i guess. Its all about what suits you the best. In BF1942 there isn't much that can complicate matters. Its just WASD, crouch, lie down, fire and throw a grenade. And they don't complicate matters in regards to flying either. I fly, just as good i would hope, in my mind, as people using joystick and me using WASD setup.

Its just frustrating to see how many games out there that use commands for things that is automatic in other games. And are more enjoyable for it. Like Freedom Fighters. I love that game. How they structure up the whole "command your squad" with 1 2 and 3, you can control 12 (!!!) squad members with this. Although this is a little bit like dog commands, stay, lay down and sit, its enjoyable and simple. I see that H&D 2 has a similar option, you can aim at a tree and say to your squad to move there. That`s nice.

To give an example of how horrible it can get i will take a recent example. It may be just me, but Conflict Desert Storm II is a NIGHTMARE in control setup. So much that i decided not bothering with buying it.

im on the 3rd or 2nd mission with the piolet, i was at the end in the truck and i saved it 1/2 a second before my truck blew up....great...

See! So now you cant backtrack because you cant save this game in slots. That way you could still be on that mission but further back depending on when you made your last slot save. So now you have to either, get a save from someone else, which means different profile (i think) or start that whole mission again!

You must start the whole mission segment all over again. What if you saved and got blown up 1/2 seconds later, meaning the nade was in the air when you saved. CRAP!

We should write a letter to them demanding a patch that allows you to slot save.

That's one good piece of text. I think in these kind of games controls as in Splinter Cell are a requirement. You can use one key for several purposes and climbing goes automatic when near a ladder/pipe.
