I am a web design so lets see if I can help you out. You can't say how much a web site will cost; everything depends on the quality. Someone said $25 is the most they seen, this is aboslutely insane unless you go with some 12 year old designer (nothing against that, I've been designing since I was 12 and now have a business out of it). I've seen people have a web site done for $100 while other sites similar in content (but much better quality) went for a few thousand. I regularly charge $40/hr for my services which usually comes out between $800-$3000 for a project, but there are designers out there that will do similar but with a lot less polish on the finished product for around $5 an hour and $60 for a finished product.

I suggest you check out designer message boards as you will be able to find a rather cheap designer there. Many places also allow you to start a contest where you specify a price and people design something and then you pick the design. A good example is http://www.yaxay.com . Good luck.

Garfield, post some of your works, your experience in Web Design and your scholarship and we'll be able to give you a rough price. Then you'll have to ask the client what does he want. Does he need only like 10 static pages then he pays you and bye bye or does he want somehting interactive, flash. Or does he want a database driven Web Site with dynamic content, with an administration section so that he can easily modify the content and a shopping cart and does he want you to make the complete design, the graphics?

When you'll know all that, you will be able to tell him how much time it will take you to do it and give him a rough price for the whole project.

As for the question in the pm, for that Web site I used plain HTML, but I also taught them how to program in HTML with Dreamweaver so that they can make slight modifications to their Web site.

Now I work for a company and I use ASP or PHP, it depends what the client needs. Oh and if you get the contract, don't be afraid to ask alot of questions. Planning is 1/4 of the project. If you don't get exactly what the client wants or you don't tell him exactly what you are goona do, then he'll ask you to make changes and trust me when you have planned how it's gonna work and someone tells you to change it, you don't feel good... :|

I can hardly see how this is "work". All you did was look up a web designer to make a website then told someone else you were making it. Don't expect to make a career out of this.

naa its not fraud, he's not actually doing anything wrong. Just going about it the wrong way and getting advice for work on a games forum, and then insulting anyone who doesn't agree (and still not actually showing any work.. really really ain't gonna get much money if he can't show any work atall). The actual taking on a job and outsourcing the work is common practice. A lot of the time studios or individuals can take on too much work, and pay others to handle the overflow.

I'd not take this thread seriously though, next week it'll be another get rich quick scheme*
