Project Hull Breach News

Hull Breach takes place in the future, inside and outside spaceships and on distant planets. According to their website, they have some very fascinating ideas regarding gameplay for the mod. [br]</br>A couple of features they are trying to implement are:
  • Character persistence on a small scale, releasing community management code so administrators or companies can (optionally) allow account creation, persistence, skill / tech trees and more. These community sites will be given the option to link in with the main Hullbreach site allowing us to manage leagues, monitor game play, bugtrack and plenty more.
  • Gravity variations within a single map allowing you to leave the artificial gravity of ships / space stations.
  • A unique almost aircraft style visor based Heads up display with upgrades.
  • Open visor vs. closed visor game play. Players HUDS (including aiming reticle) are displayed on the players visor. A large tactical element within the Halflife Engine is the use of sound. Within an environment with breathable atmosphere the players will be able to open and close their visor at will. With the visor closed sound will be muffled however you will have a reticle and additional information displayed. Opening the visor will remove your reticle and hud information (apart from vital information displayed on the rim of the helmet) but give the player the advantage of superior audio capabilities.
  • To combat the blue tack on screen type players we will implement a 'loose' aim to the guns a little like golden eye on the Nintendo 64.
Iron sights for most weapons will also be used.

It has been since March since we have heard from Hull Breach, so I was pleased to see they have been working since that time. They have released four new shots on their website. Enjoy them![br]

Been following this mod for some time now. Was one of the 1st hl2 mods i read about. Cant wait for this.

This shit makes me DRIZZLE with steaming GOO.

The visor idea sounds excellent, but the models are bad. :(

Damn, those models look good.
/me is on the highway to Hull

This mod looks rather interesting. I do like the concept of it. Also the idea of having muffled sound when one's visor is closed is kinda neat. Since this mod takes place inside and outside of spaceships, it would have been neat if the sound change happened when one went outside the spaceship (where technically there is no sound). It would make more sense then the visor thing, but it's all good. Either way the mod sounds good (sorry, bad pun) and i look forward to trying it out.

This mod is awesome. I can't wait.

The point to the visor is that all your information is displayed on your visor, but when the visor is closed you lose audibility of your immediate surroundings thus lending you vulnerable to an upcoming sneaking enemy. So in order for you to hear the surroundings better eg. footsteps and whatnot you need to flip up your visor at the loss of the information displayed on the hud eg. vital signs, minimap etc.

I love this mod-concept and has been following this mod for a long time now.

I do understand the idea and I do think it's a neat idea for sure. Usually people don't do anything creative with the sound. I just thought it would make sense if there would be no sound (or do a quite muffled sound) in space and be normal inside the ships. But I like there idea and i'm looking forward to trying it.

Well the subjects been up many times on the PHB forum but I'm not sure what the team is planning on that part.

As realistic as no sounds in space would be it would ultimately get boring, but I'm sure that fact is easily fixable by you hearing your own breathing as an ambience sound when in space. And also "hearing" your weapon through the vibrations in your armor or some such. But yes I agree that there should be no sound in the actual space. Only onboard the spaceships.

And as said I think the team will come up with a good solution.

Changing gravity fields? Spacesuits? I'm smelling an "Ender's Game"-themed map :D
