I say: Anything a person believes in becomes real, anything a person don't believe does not exist.

prove me wrong

People belive in DNF, but it doesn't exist. Trust me.

Interesting. And in an abstract sense, you're absolutely right.

No, even in the abstract sense he's wrong.

Reality is that which doesn't go away when you stop believing in it.

I love the way you say prove me wrong. How about you prove yourself right? Lack of proof that something is wrong does not mean it is right.

As for a partial proof: Lots of childern genually believe in Santa, yet Santa does not exist. Because Santa is meant to leave presents to all the children of the world, you only have to find one set of parents who say that all the presents have been bought by them. If you were to ask your parents (or parent) if they brought all your presents at Christmas, and they say yes. They have helped to prove that Santa that gives presents to all the children does not exist.

Anyawy,

I'm going to say "Prove me wrong" a lot more often.

George W Bush has a pet tiger. Prove me wrong.

i believe Blue Whales can fly :upstare:

prove me wrong. (or simply just say..)

Pmw!!! :sniper:

No, I'm a firm believer in ALEXDJ being completely correct, at least on one level.

Everything you experience is your own personal universe, as what you experience will look or feel or seem slightly different to another person. So in your personal universe, you can choose to believe that some things exist, and that others don't. For example, I could believe that what I'm posting here is all in my mind, and none of this text is actually transferred to the forum database.

But to put it into a more identifiable context: I believe that God does not exist. Perhaps he does, perhaps he doesn't. A lot of people believe firmly in his existence. Those people believe he exists, therefore he exists in each of their personal universes.

But nothing can be prooven, so there is no point arguing.
I mean after all we could all actually be robots except for me and all the accidents in the street with blood are faked.

NO POINT AT ALL......you will have people with all different opinions, conflicts occur, nothing else new happens.

I don't believe in your personal universe theory. Does that mean it doesn't exist?

Would it not be a never ending cycle of existence and non-existence? I don't know what I'm getting at but I'm just putting my ideas down

Why prove you wrong? The burden of proof is with you, since you make the claim.

Erm, of course things can be proved true or false. The proposition "Feath rents a flat in Edinburgh" can be proved true by looking at my lease. "Feath has 3 arms" can be proved false by counting the number of arms I have.

Interesting point: until quite recently (I don't know how recently), the word "Proven" did not exist except in Scottish law, where it was used it a sentence describing something.

technically you can't prove anything.

you can't prove gravity exists, even if you throw a ball up in the air a million times. there's always a chance it won't come back down the next time. however, the 'chance' that gravity exists is virtually 1.

wow, you guys are alot more open to this topic than those people at steampowered.com

anyway, if you remember how Christ said that if your believe is strong enough you can move a mountan. not i'm not saying that it's true (but i do believe in it)

and yes blue wales can fly if you believe in it

the truth is that you're a liar!

(paradox time!!! :D)

I hate philosophy. It's a rebellion against rational and logical thought, which rule the day.

Common sense rules all.

Stuff like "Well, if I believe I am honestly doing it, what's to say it's not true or that I'm not" <-- Third party agreement and common sense, naturally.

prove 2+2= 4

Impossible.

Life revolves around the impossible

I believe there are intelligent extraterrestrials out there. (because there are) I believe they are here. (because they most likely are)

That's the kind of topic I like to discuss. I wish I could say thing clearer and meaner as I can in French.

Anyway, you could never prove something, never. As long as we are humans, we could never be absolutely sure of the existence of something. A lot of situations could explain what I'm trying to say.

i believe i can see 30 briefcases laid in front of me, all containing millions of pounds.. :) *closes eyes and wishes*

well I prefer the more skeptical side of things. That nothing at all is true, therefore I try to believe nothing at all You will make fewer assumptions this way. Descartes got to "I think therefore I am" as the fundamental truth, but I don't know that I could even go as far as to believe that. Identity is a pretty flimsy thing. I'm not really sure I exist at all... wait no!... poof!

So you are not posting on a forum ? As it is all an assumption.

I have two pebbles. I add two pebbles. 4.

It is never not going to be 4, this is a scientific fact.

Anyone who disagrees can't be taken seriously.

You are of course correct and my post was actually taking the mikey, hard to express sarcasm here.
2+2=4, fact, reality.

Use that logic to explain why -2 * -2 is four please

I clicked "Post Quick Reply" the other day, believing that my post would appear in the thread I intended it, however my internet connection dropped out and the post was lost.

Math theorem, since you cannot physically hold negative objects. Negative is used to express debt. As in, owing somebody 5 dollars.

Yea, i know, use a debt analogy to prove -2 * -2 is 4...

I can't think of one off the top of my head, but it is written in a 6th grade math book in the explanations if you want to find it. It's there though.

Point is, use common sense, and logic. Obviously if you think you can run through the wall without hitting/breaking it and just move through it, you're wrong, and everyone knows it.

I beleived that my relationship would last forever, but I was wrong.

I beleived I would get accepted into Cornell University, but I was wrong.

I beleived that I would like Dogma, but I was wrong.

I beleived that.. bleh bleh bleh.

You can't apply that type of thinking to logic. You can only apply it to theoretical bullshit, like religion, and other crap. I'd take a logical way of thinking over that, any day.

-2*-2 = 4 is true by definition. Mathematics is purely abstract. It is based on the reality that we know, but it is defined by us. The number 2, the negative sign, the number 4, and multiplication are all abstract concepts which we have created. They are defined by the relationship that -2*-2=4. Therefore it must be true because that is it's very definition.

I know its true ><

But like when you teach lil kids stuff you go like like one apple and another apple makes two apples. And if you owe two ppl two dollars, you owe four dollars (-2*2). Theres gotta be some illustration of -2*-2 as well...

Why is this so hard to get an answer to...?

Does anyone hear him swear?

I can picture it in my head with a table and such or think of scenerios (sort of) for it, but I have a lot of trouble explaining it.

I did, and it wasn't pretty!
I really should stop stalking people... :o

Anyway, none of you try reading this thread at 04:14am - it's not healthy. But I think That right and wrong and things like numbers and letters only exist because people went
"Dude, we've got to think of something to call these apples, instead of saying "I have an apple, and I have another apple"
"Dude! How about we say we have TWO apples?"
"Dude... Don't be stupid"

So saying 2+2=4 is silly, because in another universe, 2+2 could equal 8, for instance. It's only true because we conform to rules that were set before time was invented.

therefore, people can easily be brought up to think 2+2 = 8, as long as noone tells them otherwise, which brings me nicely to my conclusion:

Right and Wrong are different for every person. People don't have the same morals as others, and so what they do is most likely wrong to someone else. So "Right" and "Wrong" are personal entities that people outside our own mentality cannot relate to and change within us. That's why people with certain illnesses can't behave properly, because they are programmed to see nothing as "Wrong", and they aren't willing to think otherwise.

All this for 04:19am? Damn, I had better go to bed before I start solving algebraic equations :o

No, 2+2 cannot equal 8. 8 is not defined by our universe or our reality, it is defined only in our minds. If you considered 2+2 to be equal to 8 in your mind it would be true, but then we would not be talking about the same number 8 anymore.

Exactly my point :p
