PSU & Video upgrade now or wait till i build my new comp in a year

Well heres the dilemma
I have a p4 2.0 ghz
512 ram
radeon 9600 np
2 burners
250 watt psu ( dell comp mind you)

I just found out that my powers supply is not proprietory and is in fact ATX standard . So should i upgrade my psu and my video card now (prolly a 9700 pro or 9800 pro) or wait one year till i am allowed to build my computer for college (i have 2000 to spend on this new computer)????? Or should i upgrade now and build my new computer in a year. If i upgrade now it will be with my own money, but the new computer is my dads money sooooooo whats the best option????

Wait 'till next year (Wow as a Red Sox fan that sounds awfully familiar). With $2000 to spend, you'll get a great computer. A 9600 can handle Half life 2, but it's not a pro or an xt so it won't be able to run everything a high, but you should overclock it to get it to at least a pro speed maybe until you get your new computer. You can hold out if you do that, besides, just look at my rig.
