Purple!!?

Does anyone else sometimes get a problem with crazy purpleness invading DM levels? I don't get it all the time but on a few servers I've found this problem of purple lighting effects. Is it some kind of network thing, a server controlled option or my beautiful graphics card being chonged up?
 
Me and my friend also get it sometimes. It only appears sometimes after pressing alt + tab, but if you experience it without pressing them, try updating your graphics drivers.
 
I definately get it without touching alt tab, but I have the very latest ATI drivers and catalyst control centre.
 
i only got it once in CS:S. i don't get it anymore.
 
hmmm... I have no idea why your are seeing purple... update your drivers and hopefuly that'll fix it

but on the other hand... Youknow.. Purple IS the color of royalty.
 
As I already said, I do have the latest drivers for my card. They're only just out. And yes there's nothing inherantly wrong with purple it just shouldn't be there.
 
It doesn't happen all the time, but at least I don't seem to be the only one to experience this so it probably isn't a problem with my machine.
 
its an issue either with shader quality, or your AA and AF settings. i had mine up but the purple bugged me and i put it down a few notches and the purple went away
 
does the purple look like a checker bord if you look at a big wall or somethin if it does than i might know what it is

Yeah, I had the exact same thing happen to me when I tried putting everything to full. From what I can see it's having troubles drawing the worldmap....It then decideds to give you that purple/pink checkerboard "no texture" replacement. It's definately issues with your drivers and or settings.
 
Had it once out of about four different games on four different servers.

Could it be a server-side thing? Like, your client is set to use cubemaps, but the server says no? So even though you have them on your client, they don't get used? Or something?
 
Its caused by alttabbing at certian times, reloading or alttabing out and in should fix it
 
Yeah, but I never alt-tabbed. Though something odd did happen with Norton Antivirus that pulled me out... would that have the same effect on the software as alt-tabbing?

Norton gets really annoying, sometimes...
 
I also had the weird purple texturing and that was after norton pulled me out and said virus defenitions updated and then i went back in. I think the alt+tab thing or anything that pulls you out is correct, if it's still there when u go back in, rejoin or restart the game.

That's exactly it.
 
no the problem is more like if all the light bulbs in the maps where purple everything is fine except nice purpleish lighting. I got it once on a server but not anymore since

I started this thread, so you'll have to take my word for it that this is infact the problem I am talking about. Have you actually read the other posts?

nah dude i was pointing that out to people who started thinking about texture probs and such (its just a lighting issue) that what i was trying to say
 
I have this problem aswell, no checkerboards thoe.
Just rainbow colors everywhere from time to time...

I have been told to try putting this in my autoexec.cfg:

I've noticed that if I change my graphics settings in game, I often get weird purple corruption. I noticed it originally in the benchmark when I'd change my AA and AF settings and re-run the demo. If I changed the settings, then quit and came back, it works fine.
 
I never get it in single player, but I will try turning down my AA nd AF settings and try Krofinzki's autoexec fix to see if either helps. Unfortunately I am UBER busy and have no time to play HL at the momento. :(

Purple Rainbow Colors

Finally after weeks of searching I find a forum where people are having the same problem as me except mine is in single player mode.

So far I have posted this problem to Steam and have had no reply.

I have been playing The Minerva Mod and Half Life 2 Episode 1 and have noticed purple, blue or yellow discoloration on the walls and ceilings of the indoor environments.

It does not happen everywhere, just some places and it annoys me to no end as it spoils the graphics and experience of the game

Am running Ge-Cube Radeon X800pro AGP 256mb on a Pentium 4 3.2g, 2G memory, Sata Hard Drive 120G DirectX 9c Oct Release, Catalyst 6.11 drivers.

Have never overclocked the video card and it never goes over 55 Celcius even when playing for a long time. Gets plenty ventilation as I have opened up the slots and the back of the computer.

I have validated and defragged my steam files for Half Life2 and have had no background apps running when running the game.

I think it might have something to do with the shaders but I am not sure 100%.

I have tried just about everything to make the color disappear ie resetting the video options in the game, using -dxlevel 70,80,81,90 in the exec target box but nothing works.

Tried lowering the AA (none) and the AF and set to Bilinear but no success.

This is really frustating me cos I never see this in other games and have only recently encountered this problem whilst playing the Dark Messiah demo. Figures, it is based on an enhanced version of the Half Life 2 engine.

Someone please help me to understand what the problem is here.

If more people are experiencing this then perhaps it has to be addressed.

I remember playing HL2 and never encountered any of this.

Tried validating cache files but problem still there.

Dont know what the problem is.
