Quake Wars: Public Beta Next Week

Quick heads up for you guys, the demo is going to be out next Monday (10th) and will include a new map (they wont tell us which yet tho).

I really don't like valley. Good to see the game coming along, though.

I like valley ..the problem is that there's not a heck of a lot of people who know how to play ..on some servers I'm racking up 50-70 kills per round mostly due to people repeating the same mistakes over and over

That's true, I just don't like the way the map is set up. Not near enough close combat for me. I loved the other map..it had a good combination. I don't know, it just rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it is due to the lack of intelligent teammates, like you said.

play more ..that's what I thought in the beginning ..but I've seen skilled teams win the map on foot alone ..you can render the vehicles useless by just setting up proper defenses forcing people to attack on foot ..but ya after playing the original enemy territory it's a little hard to stomach the addition of vehicles

The vehicles seem so odd to me. They act like....I don't know, they are very clunky. Like the tank has no time from nothing to full speed. And it feels like your lagging really bad while driving around. I don't know, I tend to stay away from vehicles unless I need one.

there's certain points where I use vehicles to great effect ..like playing as GDC at the beginning of Valley, ...a few feet from the base i spam the strogg tunnel with artillery making it hard for them to set up defenses and killing them as they rush out of the spawn area ..it always allows my teamates enough time to build the bridge

True, then after that, vehicles are just about slaughtered every time they exit the tunnle/hit the bridge for the last bit. They still feel way to clunky for me, I don't know if I'm alone in that thought, though.

no, dont get me wrong, I agree they are clunky ..I just dont use any one for very long to find out

well this sucks the upcoming demo of Quake wars will have the same map as the beta ..come on!!! the demo will be the third version of the map I've played on ..this just sucks ass

The Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars PC Demo comes with the final version of Valley, one of the larger battlegrounds in the game. Set in Yosemite, California, Valley has the Global Defense Force on the attack, as they attempt to foil a Strogg contamination plot centering on a water treatment facility. Valley features a great blend of close quarters infantry action, vehicle battles and aircraft dogfights, and the varied terrain combining mountains, waterways, tunnels and industrial structures allows for many different playing styles. To top it all off, there's a multitude of optional side missions and plenty of opportunities to try out the various defense turrets, artillery and radar deployables - Valley is a prime example of the frantic and diverse action you'll find in Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars.

For those who already played Valley in the Public Beta, the map has undergone further balance improvements based on your feedback. Most notably, the GDF can now capture the Contaminator Forward Spawn before the Shield Generator is hacked, which really cranks up the action around that objective. On top of that, the Demo contains the final XP and weapon balance, player movement, and vehicle handling.

I'd like to see a map where the rolls are switched. The Strogg are trying to assault the GDF to stop them from, say, launching a weapon against the Strogg bases, or something.

Meh, I'll give the demo a whirl.

Hopefully it runs better than the Beta... which was a total stutterfest, couldn't even move or shoot without having to wrestle the mouse.

Beta 1s idea of low settings = high AF/AA. If you have a Geforce 6600 or above you should be fine framerate wise (assuming you have the ram/CPU to back it up), always fiddle with the settings yourself and ignore autodetect/predefined settings.
