Quake Wars: Public Beta Next Week

Im very disappoint in the way Quake Wars has turned out. The game play feels stupid and the game looks like shit. The animations everything. I know this is beta but they arnt going to redesign the game from this point on. This isnt on my to get list, unless something really changes.

ET felt so great, this feels like shit. To be honest its probably the engine.

what he said, I dropped it from my shopping list long time ago. I played it for 10 hours on both sides, i tested every single weapon and move. I thought its a BF2 killer, or similar to BF2 in style at least (turned out to be a stupid).

hmmm bye bye QuakeWars. :frown:

Everyone revive rtcw instead. Best team/class based fps ever. Everything else is fps with training wheels :)

blame the magazines, gaming sites for the whole "BF2 killer" thing. It was never ment to be like that, the damn gameplay isn`t even the same.

I`m glad they stayed true to Quake/Enemy Territory. I loved both of the games, loved the beta, and will surely get the full version.

This is what put me off. Much of the rtcw/et feel and gameplay has been lost in the move to vehicles and larger maps. There are traces left, but Quake Wars is pretty much a different game.

I dont like this game at all. Battlefield 2, a two year older game is much better than this. Quake Wars looks like crap, the gameplay is way to fast, no psychics what so ever... The first video at E3 2005 blew me off! The game looked great, so did the screenshots.. but this is just crap..

The game really just feels like Quake 3 with vehicles and some spiffy technology...

My biggest critique is the bunnyhopping! Enough already!

I think people are going too far by saying this game is crap. IMO the game sucks right now but I think it has a lot of potential. Right now vehicles are next to worthless and there is too much spray and pray. Combat is paced pretty decently but it's oriented too much for close range combat. Going prone and shooting a guy running into a building is worthless unless you have a sniper.

This game will probably be a great game in a year, but without a strong launch it won't have the player base to keep the games community involved and without that the game won't have a competetive edge and will turn into n00bified crap.

Does anyone want my account, I don't care about it. PM me

The thing that disappoints me most about this game was the advertising and hype that it was a "Battlefield" killer, it will defiantly not kill Battlefield, it feels like a 3 year old mod for Quake 4, it is terrible.

I was really looking forward to it too.

People, the developers have said themselves that this game will stay true to Enemy Territory, which it has.
It was never supposed to be slow, semi-realistic, etc. It Enemy Territory and Quake combined, which makes for some awesome, fast, full of rockets, lighting-speed slugs and bunnyhopping action.
People may think it`s "spray and pray" but those are the people who can`t aim or are just slow. This game takes a different set of skills.
I`m a bloody sniper with the GDF assault rifle, headshots keep coming and coming.
It`s pretty fun to kill newcomers in beta as they still shoot at the torso or just spray thinking that will do anything :D.
All these years of UT and Quake have paid off :D

Blame the idiots who preview these games (ign, gamespot, etc) for labeling it the BF2 killer.

I personally love the gameplay, just what I expected from this game. Brings back memories.

See, i'm a massive rtcw and et fan, yet have found the gameplay to be less tight and team focussed. et was already going this way (which why rtcw is still the much better clan game imo) and Quake Wars has exchanged the tense, teambased rush bottleneck/defend gameplay for an even more open and chaotic ride. I'm not saying it isn't a good game - the pace is a plus point, many people here just aren't used to a fps that takes skill in aiming ;) - just that most of what was truly great about rtcw has been diluted.

I haven't played this game for a bit, but I'll just say, this game is still fun as hell. Really can't wait for the full version to come out with different maps. I have installed the latest patch, which I was hoping would be a lot of fixes, but nothing I was thinking would have occurred. Oh well, we'll see what else comes on next.

The fact that the game is still in beta, full of newbies from all sorts of backrounds (gaming), you just cannot expect any teamwork yet.

Let the game be released, all the noobs leave, all the fans stay, then you will see teamwork.

Quake Wars BETA 2 has just been released on Fileplanet. It features a load of improvements and a whole new map.

List of improvements:

Balancing, Refinements and Bugs

The whole team has worked on thousands of bug fixes, refinements, and balancing improvements in this build that couldn't be applied as a simple patch to Beta 1. This covers most weapons, items, tools, vehicles, deployables, and the user interface, including fixes for uncapped frame-rates, improved server administration functions, interaction with objectives, better weapon spread modifiers, vehicle firing rates, better sniper scopes, more consistency between weapons and their UI components, better fire support, improved deployables, and smaller tweaks like time-stamping for messages from friends, and tweaked special effects.
Improved Bots

id Software's John Dean is making great progress with the Bot code, and our Level Designers have added full support to Valley - You can now play through the map while off-line against Bots, co-operatively with friends, against friends each using Bots, or simply flood the empty slots on a server with them. Even at this early stage, they are the most advanced implementation of multiplayer combat AI that I've ever seen. They understand player level tactics and priorities, and team-level strategy. Sure, there are some bugs (else it wouldn't be a Beta!) but I'm positive you'll be impressed by them.
Improved Prediction and Player Physics

Our Physics Programmer Tristan 'Fearog' Williams has developed the new Anti-Lag feature, so we're finally nearing the point where the goal of 'what you shoot is what you hit' will be realized, despite a player perhaps being on a higher latency connection. There are improvements to the collision system, player knock-back, player speed, hitting targets that are jumping, interacting with the world while going prone – it's a big list.
Improved Vehicle Physics and Controls

Tristan has been working hard on this stuff too, with the Husky Quad Bike, Armadillo Truck, and Trojan Amphibious Personnel Carrier in particular feeling much more dynamic (as a test of this, power-sliding now works properly). It's easier to aim as a Gunner when in vehicles now too.
Improved Interface

You'll see masses of refinements across the whole User Interface, but our primary focus has been on accessibility. Gordon "digibob" Biggans' work on the Mission System makes seeing, choosing, and accepting missions much slicker, while class-specific mini-map markers and damaged vehicle indicators make finding the team-mate or vehicle that you need a lot easier. Jared "jRAD" Hefty has been overhauling the Server Browser too, with more detailed information on servers (such as which map of a campaign it's on, and whether the server is in warm-up, the time left, etc), while 'friends filters' list only those servers with buddies or clan mates on them. You can now tweak many more options in the Game Settings Menu, including much more control over graphics settings, and even a color picker to make customizing your alias and clan tag much easier.
Improved Audio

Lots of attention has been given to the GDF handheld weapons in particular, but improvements across the board have been made based on your feedback.
Improved Game Performance

Beta 2 comes with a slew of performance optimisations and tweaks. There are also several new menu options allowing you to tweak the visuals of the game even further. Compared to Beta 1, we've seen performance increase as much as 30% - we're keen to get all the feedback we can in this area, so please keep your performance reports coming.
PunkBuster

The latest PunkBuster revision is included with Beta 2 and should alleviate any remaining problems people are having. The PunkBuster folks have also revised their manual updater and it works correctly now across all versions of Windows, should you ever have to use it.
Unranked Server Support

Beta 2 will include everything you need to put up your own unranked ETQW multiplayer server. There's been a lot of demand for this and we're eager to get the server out there for you to test and play around with. It's worth noting that the unranked server code offers a wide variety of tweakable options; for example, you'll be able to turn ETQW into a fast and frantic game, or a slower, more tactical experience, depending on your preference.

i ll give it another chance before making my final...

its more fun, but not slower, saying that tho, they have given server admins the ability to change the speed of the units so if you can find a server running it slower you might be happy?

Still not sure about getting this, it is fun and all, but I can't see myself having any long-term fun with it like with BF2. (clan ain't moving to ETQW) and won't really have the time for it when go back to Uni....i'll probs stick with my single-player games for now :D
