I can't say I blame them. Oh well, at least there's Epic's "Bulletstorm" sized announcement next week. Whatever they have planned, I hope the PC is in the loop.

I don't understand... why can't game developers just MAKE WHAT PEOPLE WANT? Why is this so difficult? Are they just blind and deaf to what people say they want or do they ignore it and instead try to decide what we WILL want? This has been happening as long as I can remember.

I mean just looking at this... even if I really really loved Iphones and had 10 and ****ing had sex with them every day, why the hell would I want to play an FPS on a 4 inch screen? When has anyone ever wanted to do that? Who was sitting there with their Iphone saying "oh man I really want to play an FPS on this tiny ass thing..." No one. No one said that because it's stupid.

I mean hell, Valve's been doing pretty much the same thing. People are like "WE WANT HALF LIFE 2 EPISODE 3!!!!" "Oh ok here's Left 4 Dead 2." "Ok cool, can we have Episode 3 now?" "Sure, here's Portal 2"

I just don't get it. I mean yeah I like innovation, but why neglect what people are asking for in order to try and tap into new markets. How often has alienating your fan base been successful in the long term?

Sorry I'm just ranting...

I love rants, StarBob!

And I agree with you with regards to Valve, heck, the way I see it what makes Valve big isn't the originality of their titles, rather the polish.

And Valve is also very good at finding a good small independent developer(and of course, liking his tech, such as the prototype demo for a freeware game by the guys who later were hired to make Portal, or the guys who made a freeware game about using a gun to use various paint to navigate a platforming level from a first-person perspective who were later hired to work on Portal 2).

*Hides*

I kinda know the feeling. Alot of PC Gamers who loved Gears of War on the PC (and were longtime customers of Epic since the first Unreal), such as myself, would love to see Gears of War 2 and 3 released on the PC. But instead, CliffyB said "No, because you're all a bunch of potential pirates!".

I'm with the pissed off grizzly bear posting above.

Careful, Bears can be dangerous when they're mad.

It might also be related to the fact that Microsoft holds publishing rights for Gears of War, and don't care too much for the PC gaming community, as shown by Fable 2 not getting a PC release, Fable 3 only a DLC one, indefinitely postponing Alan Wake PC not to mention shutting down the Microsoft studio responsible for the Flight Simulator series.

I had figured that it was Microsoft's influence, but recently Epic did claim that the GOW franchise was their and that they could do whatever they want with it. I do find that hard to believe, since Microsoft had a helping hand with the GOW series and would surely have at least some control over the franchise as well.

He is selling the engine, they haven't stopped going on about how easy it is to get id tech 5 working on pretty much anything which is very appealing to dev's. They are just showing off.

Its pretty impressive tho to be fair, it looks great.

Have they done away with the hard dynamic stencil-based shadows of Doom 3 and Quake 4 fame for some more modern dynamic soft-shadows?

I haven't kept myself updated on Rage so.

So you'd rather see the fifth game in a series, repeating what we've already seen with a different story, over innovations in other games?

I don't think your argument holds that well.

After Doom 3 why would anyone want a Doom 4?

They may have learned from their mistakes from Doom 3, and seek to improve on Doom 4. At least, I am hoping. To me, Doom 3 wasn't as good as it was hyped up to be (and believe me, they hyped it like the second coming of Jesus) but it was still good for me and I enjoy it.

Way to take the OP's thoughts as fact/serious, people.

Nobody has been asking for Doom 4.

I would much rather have a first-person adventure or survivaly horror title with this impressive iPhone tech than another effing shooter that is too hard to control on a touch screen. I am not really all that excited for this at all.

And you will. They're building this tech to sell.

Also, nobody is excited. People don't get excited for phone/handheld/mobile games.

id doesn't focus on titles anymore. The message sent by this conference is clear, at least to me: they make technology, not titles.

Actually the guy asked Carmack during his keynote if there will be any info on Doom 4 and he answered no. Soooo.....yeah.

And you will.
I pray to Sheba, "Let me die," if you are lying. :p

Have to disagree here (for me at least). One of my most highly anticipated games is coming for the iPhone/iPad: Superbrothers' Sword & Sworcery: EP. Plus my favorite games right now is Dragon Quest IX. I have spent 65 hours in it so far and show no signs of stopping any time soon.

Are you sure it wasn't 63 hours?

Regardless of whether or not people wanted Doom 4, did anyone really expect them to announce it while they were still finishing up Rage? That's an ambitious project, and I was under the impression they were a pretty small team...

Haha, I'm sorry, are you the same guy who was ranting about gamers being whiny bitches when they don't get what they want? :p
