Well probably amazon or some other online site, so I voted store.

Both maybe but i want that Special sollectors edition metal case and the other extras

I'd like the collectors edition, but I won't get it if it costs more than 1.5x the price of the normal edition.

I'm getting it at a store, mainly cause I have dail-up ;(

Both, I have two computers to play HL2 on, so Im gonna get the CE Box and then a normal copy from Steam.

Store, my internet connection is a bit too slow to get it thru Steam - it would take ages to download (max. 9.5KB/s).

havent thre already been like 500 topic just like this one?

I dont know now. Do you get a PDF of the manual?

I'd like the Collectors box only coz I am a big fan of the first and i love crappy lil crap in a box

My pre-order still exists (I guess :O ), but I might preload it through steam just to make sure I have it the soonest way

edit: this is my 666 post, I hope that's not an omen for the release damn

is that activation key from ati radeon xt an "cd-key" with that I can play online or do I get another key later from steam??

One copy from store, and one mailed to me for free by virtue of my ATI coupon. :D

I am getting it from stores, but if it is sold out, I am launching Steam within 3 seconds of me getting home from the stores. :)

this coming from the guy that asked the dumbest question ever on this site.

"will you play halflife 2 as soon as you get home from the store with it?"......pfff

don't be so quick to judge buddy

store :)

there is speculation that it might be available on Steam earlier than in stores.. so eh.. i might pay one month's subscription fee just to get it as soon as possible and then get the Collectors Edition when its made available :)

says mr retarted threads r us.

"will you install Hl2 when you buy it"

Ill buy it from the store.

Store and only store. MP I couldn't care less about, but if Steam is required for SP, well they just lost a customer. I will never put steam on any of my computers ever.

What's so wrong with Steam? I can't see how not liking Steam would discourage you from the hl2 experience.

Plus I'm 99% sure you'll need to install Steam from the cds once you get hl2 if you don't have Steam already. Single Player should run from the Steam "Games" menu just like the first half-life does right now. I don't see what the big deal is though, it's not like Steam is going to screw up your computer or anything. It's better and more organized than the original system. The only people that really have problems with it are the multi-player customers who prefered the WON networks but that's hardly a problem you have to worry about since your in it strictly for the single player.

Yep, looks like they lost a customer.

And I'll try the stores, but if that's no good, I'll just buy it throught Steam. Should be all preloaded and everything by then, too. :)

Oh noes! It's Letters!!

I don't play MP games. I only play SP. The computer I game on is never connected to the internet simply because I don't have to and shouldn't have to use the internet to play a SP game. The last thing I should have to do to play a single player game is connect to the internet and install some bullsh!t software that can control files on my machine.

We've played MP and SP games for years that don't require this nonsense. If people want to use it for subsrciptions to other games and whatnot that's fine. I have nothing against what other people do. I shouldn't have to use this crap if I don't want to though. All steam is, is an expensive marketing tool for valve. They can see what you're playing, when and how long. They can push content onto your machine. No thanks. This is the wrong direction for gaming in a world where privacy is becoming nonexistant.

Not a biggie though. If steam is required I simply won't play. A silly video game I wouldn't spend more than a few hours a week playing won't bend me out of shape.

You don't have to connect to the internet at all. It's only required for multi-player. Hell, you can set it up so it always works in offline mode if you want. It's really no different from a single player standpoint as anything else, especially considering the fact that your gaming computer is never even connected to the internet. All it is, is a more organanized and easier way for valve to distribute content (games, patches, updates, etc.) to it's customers. It's not some disguised super hack designed to take over your system. And as far as gathering info, that's just a survey you can *choose* to fill out, and they do that so they can have a better understanding of the average hardware they should develop their games for. Personally, I think it's great that they're focusing on the needs of the customer in order to make their business more organized, accessable and user friendly.

But you can't please everyone I guess..... so have fun *not* playing HL2.

If this is true I'm fine. So you're saying I don't need to install steam for SP only?

If I want a patch I'll go and download it. I don't need a system doing that for me. If I want a game I'll go to the store and buy it. The point being I shouldn't HAVE to HAVE this software to play.

I'm not worried about being "hacked" and I didn't mean to imply that I thought this was an issue.

I've never even seen steam so I don't know anything about a survey. But they can see who is playing, what game and for how long through steam. As I said a useful tool for their marketing department.

Focusing on customer needs is fine and dandy. I shouldn't be forced to participate in their market research though. The fact that I bought the game should be all the data they need.

I'm a computer programmer. I know that if I was evil and forced everyone using my software to have a content manager on their machine I could have some fun. The fact that Valve was hacked once is bad enough. What if a hacker found their way through steam. Unlikely but possible. Simply put, it's not needed for a stupid single player game.

I don't trust steam or my hard drives. I want a hard copy. Store - collectors edition.

All Steam will be for singleplayer is a game-selection menu! What the Hell is the big deal?!

Wow, I am suprized a thread like this hasn't been made before!
Store. I want the box. (Hardcore Fan)

I think that even if you get it from the store you should preload it, because when you get home, all you need to do is type in the CD key and won't have to wait for a lengthy install.

I hope it's shiny :p

I got mine on preorder on amazon.co.uk, since last august!

Exactly what I'm going to do. Or I might just load up from Steam, then wait for the collectors edtion to come out and buy that for keepsakes.

Sheesh, you steam 'O' phobes are really paranoid....I've been using it since it was still in Beta and I've had no major problems ....
:p

Definitely from a store. There will be lots to do at my store when it's released. I bet there will be a DDR tournament for instance :)
